There's a warm-up mode? I didn't see that. I'll have to go back and check it out.

WOOT!!!! Super Metroid confirmed for an August 20th release!

Quote

After downloading, it becomes its own Wii Menu channel. It's not a demo, but has trailers and other vids from the game. This kicks off a "Month of Metroid" for Nintendo with Metroid (available for 400 points) and Super Metroid (800 points) getting Virtual Console releases on August 13 and August 20th respectively. MP3: Corruption drops August 27th.

Source: Kotaku.com

(I wonder if the original Metroid being listed for 400 is a typo on Kotaku's part?)

Yes it is a typo.  On the Shop channel it actually says 500 points.

Too bad.  I would think it would be awesome for Nintendo to release a real classic NES game at 400 Points to advertise the price drop of NES games.

I still believe that the Best Pricing would be:

400 NES
500 TG16
600 SNES/Genesis
1000 N64

Finally Neo Geo Games COULD take up the 800 Point Realm.

Those numbers would help prevent stuck Wii Points.  And for $20 you could get a good variety of games from different platforms.  The Best Combo being 1 N64 game, 1 SNES/Genesis game, and 1 NES game.

"Those numbers would help prevent stuck Wii Points."

I'm pretty sure Nintendo wants this.  "Oh dang!  I only have 100 points left that are non-refundable.  Guess I better BUY SOME MORE!"

Only a week to beat Super Metroid before Metroid Prime 3 comes out.  Well that's doable for anyone who has beaten the game before but newcombers might not be able to pull that off.

For sh!ts and giggles I hooked up my SNES the other day and tonight I played Super Metroid.

From scratch it took me around 3 hours to finish with a gameplay time of 1 hour 59 minutes (I finally got to see Samus take off the suit fully for the first time by means of beating the game! lol).

So it'll be a cake walk for anyone who's done it before. Everyone else . . . it'll probably take 5-6+ hours if you've never gone through it before.

Plenty of time to marvel in the greatness that is Super Metroid and then enjoy MP3 =D

I believe I clocked some 16 hours on my Super Metroid saves on the SNES before the battery gave out again (got it from a flea market with a dodgy battery, has a tendency to delete all saves). Never managed to beat Ridley, though.

I can confirm that there was in fact another update, but since I did not get to play that much after the first update, I cannot really tell you any differences, although there does seem to be very slight slowdown on the map screen, it is not as bad as the first updates slowdown, but I cannot tell if the slowdown that I see in the map screen is really slowdown or if I am just manufacturing slowdown because I expect to see it (I cannot remember how fast the map screen moved on the original version). Aquas did not seem to slowdown very much, if at all, but I really was not looking for it so it might still be there.

Regardless of all that though, the tweaks to the control make the game way more enjoyable to me, it was so sensitive before.

A question to thoes who've dowloaded Metroid:
In the players manual does it show you a picture of each powerup along with what it does, not knowing what powerup I got really confused me last time I played it. I'm going to try to like it and if all else fails I'll just get a map online to beat the game.

I re-updated my Star Fox 64.  I was playing it and it all seemed the same, I never noticed the slow down before.  But while I played it, I noticed the X and Y buttons can be used for boost and brakes instead of the second analog stick...and I don't know if that was in the previous updates.  If it was, I wish I discovered it sooner because it makes the game infinitely more playable.  If it wasn't, then those button modifications, make the update incredibly awesome and the game enjoyable again.

What games do you release along side Super Metroid is my question.

You know people will be buying points to get this game, so Sega and TG16 will want to have something equally great to entice gamers to download their game with the extra points available.

I think Super Metroid and Sonic 3 would make a great Monday update...truthfully, I would like to see another Nintendo oddity game like Kirby released along with Super Metroid...perhaps Unicycles (though I really hated that game.)

Perhaps Zombies Ate My Neighbors?  what do you think?

I would suggest Nintendo release some games that were guaranteed to be throw away releases regardless, because anything released alongside Super Metroid is going to get crushed. Better off to release something you didn't think would sell all that well that way you don't compete with yourself for the customer's dollars.

Not that it means anything except in the interest of trivia, but the name of the game was "Uniracers", not Unicycles.  It was actually developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North).

Do VC games lose sales if a big title steals their thunder?  It's not like they ever go off the shelf and everything is cheap enough that it's not like one has to pick one game over another.  Plus I figure that most of the VC audience are informed gamers who know their sh!t and would go back and buy something they knew was good.  People with casual game interests don't care as much about old games.  Super Metroid in particular is going to sell with hardcore gamers.

If anything I would release a well known title for the Genesis or T-16 to go with Super Metroid.  A lot of T-16 games are obscure and require people to want to try them out so they might get overshadowed.  But a well known T-16 game will attract attention even later on if someone is looking though older VC titles they haven't bought yet.

And Uniracers is the best.  I've spent a couple all-nighters with friends playing that game.

Looking at Hudson's August release list, the only title they are releasing yet this month is Neutopia.  Seeing as that's certainly one of the best TG-16 games in existence, if not the best, it might not be a bad idea for them to release it next Monday.

I don't think you offer anything along with Super Metroid.  People will not even pay attention to the other games...not if they're crazy enough to pass on the greatest SNES game ever made (outside of Chrono Trigger).

I got Super Metroid, played it for an hour I think, it's alot easier than the original Metroid for NES, but I'm liking it alot so far, oh and the music is bliss.
