All this talk has nothing to do with DS's failure to capture the Japanese market.

Anymore numbers that illustrate DS's ailing performance on life support?

well considering that the sold this week #'s are exactly the same as the total sold #'s, my guess would be YES, yes it did just get released.
And 32.5 thousand isn't that bad considering 1st person shooter games doen't really sell well in Japan.

Metroid doesn't sell in Japan, FPS doesn't sell in Japan, I suppose the only reason they're releasing it there at all is because they don't want to leave the japanese market out (whereas they'd happily shaft Europe if we didn't buy Metroid. Give us the other Kururin titles goddamnit!).

So how many people own a DS in Japan?

How long do you think it'll take for NSMB to reach 50% of that number? (It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when)

Ranked by dollars, not units.  Very impressive that NSMB beat out all those $50 and $60 games.  Even more impressive that Brain Training (a non-game priced at a mere $20) ranked so high.  LOL at Over the Hedge.

Look at that.  This 3rd pillar business is getting them NOWHERE, especially if they can't even top their 2ND PILLAR.

Where are the PSP numbers? Is Sony still hiding them? I thought that in the US the PSP was doing well or at least holding its ground, as compaired to Japan numbers....

Not true, globaly the DS the DS is doing very well so there 3rd pillar strategy is working fine.

If anything MS$ should be more concerned if it cant even beat the PS2 being the only next gen console currently released, probably due to its high price point and  poor reliability, and they have already effectively lost the Japanese market again.

Where does that leave PS3 with it's even higher pricepoint and even poorer reliability? I can't wait to see the PS2 outsell the PS3 this holiday.

BTW it's been confirmed that PSP outsold DS this month, again. It sold more than GBA is all we know. NPD are so freaking retarded with their numbers, treating them like it's some "exclusive club". They can rot and die, we need a better sales tracker to step up.

But how long will it be before devs slow down on making PSP software (Considering the overall global lead by DS.), particuarly Japanese devs? What effect will that have on US PSP sales?

The next few months are more important, we'll see what the DS lite's effects on NA sales will be and as the GBA line slowly gets phased out we'll see if the sales start to shift towards the DS.

That is why I think it is dumb to compare PSP sales to DS sales in the U.S. It seems pretty obvious people are buying a PSP for either the UMD movies or for a glorified MP3 player.

How can you count sales data that doesn't include WalMart or online?

I mean, probably half of the DS sales come from thsoe two places.
