Damn, the GBASP outsold the DS?

Both combined were beat out by the PSP?

Two Nintendo systems - combined - beat out by the 360?

Mario is right, Nintendo is doomed.

Seriously, check this out though...  Sorry about how some of the labels run together a bit there - made this in a real hurry.

DSL didn't make 300,000...FLOP completely.  That system is on the way out.  Nintendo better prep the GBNext soon or their market share is going to go bye bye.  Wii can't help them, it's not a portable.  Without a portable, they are lost.

Guys... let's just be honest for a minute. Around 250k is how much DS has been selling ever since Lite came out, and now it gets a huge new game, possibly the biggest game that will ever release on it, and it doesn't even attract new gamers, the system sells the same amount. If New Super Mario Bros can't sell the DS, what can? Nothing. Sony have the right strategy by not releasing any big guns, ever, so to the public, EVERY PSP game is significant. That way PSP continues to build momentum while DS keeps selling the same. PSP going up, DS staying the same, it's inevitable what's going to happen. Let's just enjoy this moment while it lasts.

Yup the way things are going in about 10 years the DS is gonna get PWND by the PSP.

No it isn't. Mario and I are stone dead serious. Comon, 900,000 units in 4 days? If anyone, at all, honestly cared about Mario anymore these days we'd have seen 2,000,000 units sold. New Mario = New Super Flop

Nintendo milked Mario one too many times, and the Japanese have shown their not going to stand for it anymore, by making it take 5 days to reach the million mark.

All this talking about the PSP though has got me thinking... At E3 '06 one of the PowerPoint slides behind Kaz states that the LTD 'shippments' of PSPs to Japan was 4.7 million units. Now we all know MediaCreate keeps pretty accurate numbers as far as actual sales to customers goes.

So what I was wondering was if though some simple SUPPLY - (UNITS SOLD) we could get an some estimate quick and dirty or nice and accurace as to just how many PSP units are sitting on shelves as of March 31 2006, at least.

If you go by this page...
http://game-science.com/news/001343.php
Sony is doing some major BS with there numbers. 4.7M - 3.2M = 1.5M units sitting on the shelfs. Thats almost a 50% more then what they sold. Nintendo at the same point had 6.8M DS/Lunits sold in japan.

Current Number at the moment would be here...

DS/L 8.4M vs PSP 3.4M

There is a major difference between Sony and Nintendo tho. Nintendo can survive and make huge profit just by themselfs, Sony on the other hand requires third parties to stay afloat. If half of Sony's third party's tomorrow stopped making games for the PS2, PSP, and PS3 and went to Microsoft. Nintendo would be Nintendo and keep doing what they always do and laugh all the way to the bank while Sony would be in huge trouble. Third parties make Sony not the other way around unlike Nintendo's. Don't get me wrong thought Nintendo would not mind more third parties but they don't require them to stay alive.

I think the DS sales is japan is all about a supply problem. Considering they were most likely saving up for the US release(which was yesterday because the street date was broken), they probably just can't ship enough to meet demand in japan.

I can't tell who's being sarcastic and who isn't in this thread.  New Super Mario Bros selling around 900,000 units in four days is bad?  What sort of sales were expected?

I figure if the sales are low a potential for that may be the percieved lack of newness.  New Super Mario Bros, though a fantastic game, if pretty derivative compared to previous 2D Mario platformers.  That plus the title "New Super Mario Bros" might give the idea that it's really not that new of a game.  People might think it's just some remake of Super Mario Bros or a rehash.  It doesn't help that Nintendo releases so many Mario games that the "real" Mario games, like this one, don't stand out.  It takes a dedicated fan to differentiate between the real Mario games and the cash-in spinoffs.

Though I'm not worried about the DS in Japan at all.  In America I am, but in Japan Nintendo's whole non-gamer plan seems to be working so I think they'll be fine.

That's what I figured but everyone was acting so damn serious.  Sarcasm is pretty much impossible to interpret through writing.  At least write "TEH D00MED!!111" so everyone can tell that you're goofing around.

Oh my gumdrops...

Does this mean that the DS system is outselling the PSP in Japan by a factor of more than ten?!?!?!

I mean, geez, comon Ian, how much more over the top would we have had to go? And, who, pray tell, started it all? Mario? Comon.... we've had to have had this discussion at least 10 times now:

YES, MARIO IS SARCASTIC IN HIS COMMENTARY WHEN HE POSTS THE MEDIA CREATE NUMBERS! (do we need to sticky a thread on this?)

So, Pap64, it's nothing personal, but you will get poop flug at you these days if you have to ask whether or not Mario is being starcastic. I hurled the first volly and then everyone else joined in.

This forum needs a sarcastic filter.
