Keep it up, Mario!  It's better than imaginary games being announced for Nintendo's imaginary next-gen system!

DSL - 68,438
DS - 49,118
PSP - 43,110
PS2 - 25,778
GBASP - 5,493
GBM - 3,213
GC - 1,489
Xbox360 - 1,240
Xbox - 101

Xbox moves up a place and back into the triple digits, momentum! DS Lite coudl have been much higher, but it should continue selling as high as the shipments are for probably the entire year.

Huh? DS Lite sales didn't include the other two colours if that's what you're asking, just white, because the others still aren't out yet. They come out tomorrow I believe! Next weeks DS sales should be even higher because of it, despite them only being in the chart for 2 days they're going to sell out in a day anyway.

Are the dsl's definitely coming out 2moro? They better because if they don't i'm going to be so angry I will right a letter of my disappointment to nintendo detailing how they are preventing me from buying games for the system since I no longer have my old ds.

I'd be flat f*ck stunned if my DSL shipped tomorrow, but I'd be one happy bastard to boot.

Lik-Sang has this to say on the matter:

Quote

We are deeply sorry for the long delay, but we truly don't know when remaining orders will be shipped out next. As per current circumstances, it looks like it could even be April before the entire backlog will be cleared. It all strongly depends on Nintendo's production and shipping schedule. Please understand that Nintendo's exact shipping and production schedule is unknown, so that only the heads of Nintendo knows if they will ship more units tomorrow, next week, or maybe end of March.

As soon as units hit the market, Lik Sang will snatch some of them. We unfortunately don't know yet when that will be, and how many units will make their way through from Japan to our warehouse. Next time we will get stock could be tomorrow, but it could as well be in a week or later. We also don't know if the next time when we will get stock we will receive 10 units, 23 units, or maybe even over 500 units. It is something impossible to predict. This chaotic context is also the reason why the price has been hiked everywhere compared to the initial "suggested" tag. Lik Sang is no exception on this and had to take a 30 US$ raise from suppliers, but judging by other places, it turns out we are still the cheapest offering around the net right now, despite the last minute mark-up. In short: Everybody is affected, in and out of Japan.

All this for sure leaves some of us asking what the heck is wrong right now at Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo DS is currently the hottest selling product of the Kyoto based firm and in fact is probably the fastest selling video game machine on the marketplace if you judge by the sales charts of the last six months. It's in Japan that demand is the strongest. Yet, Nintendo managed to strike the island with a shortage of standard Nintendo DSes from January 5th till February 28th, and by the time the NDS Lite finally comes to the rescue, it is largely under-produced, and brought to the store shelves way too slow. One has to wonder what is going on. This sure doesn't look like the perfect plan, as there is a lot of missed sales at stake. This proves that even a big corporation like Nintendo is just run by human beings and can face problems and crises, same as everybody else does. We truly wish them good luck at facing the crisis!

One thing is sure: until now Lik Sang successfully got each single customer his own console on all past systems releases ever. We won't let you down. Please understand and hang in there with us, the storm will calm down and in the end it will be all good.

Maybe all of Nintendo's factories are tied up with building Revs? I can dream...

More like people who didn't get one after lining up on opening day have a distinct and non-zero possibility of forgoing a purchase now that their interest has waned.

Edit: For instance, I'm considering cancelling my order because of this ridiculous delay.

And the fact that unknowing parents will go to the store to buy the handheld their child is asking for, only to find it gone and they decide, rather than having to come back again, they'll just buy the PSP instead because it's "the same thing, right?"

Oh... but interest would never wane for something like xbox360, PS2, PS3.... I'm sure there will people who cancel their orders, heck sure, some who even actually DO never purchase one because of this... but its going to be very few. Just like how PS2/xbox 360 shortages arn't going to wane anyones interests, aside from the fact that we're talking about Nintendo. And Nintendo is always doomed....

Oh comon, since when has a parent bought a competing "toy" that is $130 more. Then convinced to buy a $60-70 memory stick, and $50 game.....

PSP sales are higher than they should be though, nobody should need to sink to buying a PSP.

I have noticed PSP is selling a little better lately. Nothing to worry about though, the DSL will ensure Nintendo's #1 spot (along with the lack of PSP games).
Currently Playing: Twilight Princess(Wii), Castlevania: PoR(DS), Mario vs. Donkey Kong2(DS), Wii sports(Wii)
Anticipating: Mario Galaxy(Wii), Blue Dragon(360), Dragon Quest:Swords(Wii), Dragon Quest IX (DS)

I agree that the likelihood of interest waning is low, but Lik-Sang is right: there are people lined up to buy DSs and the stores sell out before they even open.

What the hell is taking Nintendo so long?

The Question is, will Nintendo be able to balance the fervor vs. supply until everyone who wants one gets one? Or will it fade like the 360 mania?

There are some big differences:

1. The demand for the 360 was centered around a holiday

2. 360 demand was centered around theoretical software that by and large still hasn't materialized, much of which will probably not be exclusive at any rate. DS demand is centered almost exclusively around already available software which is exclusive.
