DS  138,717
PSP  40,000

I wouldn't be that worried about it.

Not to be a pain, but when did Jon preorder his?

Frankly, I'm fingering the cancel button on this order. If it's going to take THAT much longer, I might as well wait for the US release.

I'm a little worried about the 138K, since I'm assuming that's every one they were able to produce... That's only what, 6 million a year? They better get production up or its going to take 20 years to make sure everyone in Japan's got one.

Smash_brother, it's barely been two weeks.  You can do whatever you like, but I'd wait at least until the US release is official before you cancel.

jasonditz, there are simply initial production problems.   They'll be able to make more in the long run.

I didn't preorder; just requested the unit directly through Lik-Sang, so I was not in the normal queue and cannot help you determine when yours might show up.

Can you pretend you need another one (white) and send it to me?

=( I'm so desperate...  I don't own a DS right now, but I do own MKDS and Jump Superstars.

Ok, your story beats mine.

Ah, I didn't realize Lik-Sang sent you one directly.

I'll hold off.

I'm guessing that Navy is the most popular color, and thus we'll have to wait the longest.  If you e-mailed Lik Sang to change it to Ice Blue, you'd probably get it sooner, but you'd also have Ice Blue to carry around.

A poll on my own site reveals the same.

The navy orders are likely backed up for miles worth of excel sheet...

Unfortunately, Navy does not look nearly as cool as I'd hoped.  It's not even close to black, and the color noticeably shifts at the edges of the clamshell.  Also, the inside faces are more lightly colored and are not glossy.  I haven't seen the Crystal White model up close, but I would guess these issues are less prominent.

People are so insecure about their electronics.  I know some people who are actually insecure enough that they get embarrassed that I have a pink Razr just because they think their manliness is called into question by association.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I don't think it's an issue of security so much as the color being, well, fugly.

It looks like a big piece of sugarless gum, IMO, anyway.

Ouch.  Well, it's T-Mobile's pink, not Cingular's pink, so it doesn't really have the gum thing going on.

(Or maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better.)

Nah, those have different color schemes on the outside and they're not a rectangular prism in the same way the DSL is.

The iPod Shuffle has a similar problem, where it looks like you should chew it for 15-20 minutes then spit it into the garbage.

Its funny how the DS in one week in Japan sells more than the PSP did in one month in NA.

(Feb NPD puts PSP at 170,000 and DS at 150,000)

Really? Damn. I thought the DS's holiday would give it momentum, but I guess not. Now we'll have to see if MPH and Tetris make a difference.. And then Mario later on.

Has PSP overtaken DS yet in the US? I've stopped following NPD because I think it's wildly inacurate, but I think the numbers are very close. Brain Training is on its way though

I don't think so.. it's only been marginally better than the DS for a while now,  so with the DS launch, there's still some separation.

I'd like to see a comparison of the number of hours of DS usage over that of the PSP.  Seriously, what are all those PSP owners doing with their systems?

I have seen a few PSPs around, but I have never seen anyone play one. I DO see people watching movies and listening to music with them. I have an iPod for music (a better device besides) and would never watch a movie on a portable anything. So aside from, I don't know, the sudden and unexpected release of a good game, I see no reason to buy one.

Rather than just hour usage, do game hour usage for psp.  I'm sure it'll be about 10:1 ratio.  PSP is used as a movie player for planes and an mp3 player mainly.

I suspect Sony of buying their own stock back to increase sales to encourage software development for the console.

Seriously, I do.

If they're selling it for a loss, then that's the smart thing to do..
