Well, yesterday I noticed in the span of 2-3 hours of random television (I was doing other things as well), I saw no less than 3 PSP commercials.

I saw no DS commercials.
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

Oh come on; the DS is and will be just fine - don't you worry. You're points just aren't valid due to one thing - the GBA. It sold through the roof here. And nearly every single major franchise that sold the GBA has been succesfully translated to the DS. Castlevania. Mario Kart. Advance Wars. Sonic. These are all traditional gamer games and the DS versions are arguably better. And then mix in some new IPs that are made with hardcore gamers in mind. The only big difference is no Pokemon, which was obviously a big reason for the GBA's success. But regardless..

And that's exactly what Nintendo has been saying - new games such as Nintendogs and Brain Training for nongamers, but traditional (and exceptional) games to keep hold of loyal fanbase. So, with this in mind, I think that in the next year the DS will ride on the momentum it has and do extremely well in North America.

Thanks Mario. I'm guessing we will see Mario Kart and Animal Crossing added to the million seller list in the next 6 months, considering the legs Nintendo games usually have.

This is just a copy / paste from another forum. I can't verify it since we (normal forumers) never got November software numbers (or December for that matter), but it seems accurate. NPD are being a bitch at the moment, seriously I don't understand why they can't just release the numbers to the public, not to mention they barely cover 50% of the market. Japan > US for sales tracking by a mile. We need more people like Media Create around the world, NPD can bite it.

Big DS sellers in December NPD judging from the new updated totals

Nintendogs All Versions - 600,000
Mario Kart - 430,000
Mario & Luigi 2 - 260,779
Animal Crossing - 254,354 (could have been a hit, but Nintendo screwed up shipments)
Sonic Rush - 100,000

Good news for Sonic Rush. EVERYONE GO BUY IT we finally get another good Sonic game and not enough people know about it.

EDIT: Top 10 selling DS games in December

1. Mario Kart DS                            431,289
2. Mario & Luigi 2                          260,779
3. Animal Crossing Wild World               254,354

5. Nintendogs: Labrador                     200,910
6. Nintendogs: Chihuahua                    184,200
7. Sonic Rush                               134,555
8. Super Mario 64 DS                         94,579
9. Zoo Tycoon                                74,979
10. The Sims 2                               68,997

Top ten PSP games:

1. GTA: Liberty City Stories                350,380
2. Madden NFL 06                            263,625
3. Need Speed Most Wanted                   263,161
4. SOCOM Fireteam Bravo                     224,469
5. Star Wars Battlefront II                 207,810
6. NBA Live 06                              117,420
7. Burnout Legends                           80,507
8. Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition              77,618
9. Harry Potter Goblet of Fire               75,040
10. WWE Smackdown vs Raw                     74,523

PSP has also passed DS in total software sales, 9,761,595 to 9,598,496. BOOOO stop buying crappy games people.

I second this times infinity.. I've said before - to me it's the second best game on the DS after Mario Kart..

And the PSP is SERIOUSLY beating the DS in software sales, even though less of them have been sold? That is utterly amazing - I would have thought (and the Japanese numbers back this up) that with all the multimedia and UMD focus, games would get lost in the equation. And they're not even good games at that! I don't know about this; I need confirmation, since it sounds really fishy..

I've heard nothing but praise on Sonic Rush, and from the videos I've seen. it's looking like the best Sonic game since the Genesis!! I really do need to pick that one up And it's a shame the Animal Crossing sales are so low.... I've seached everywhere and a few online stores have it in stock, but other then that.... nothing

Yeah, that sounds like the case from what i've been hearing as well. It should have steady sales for the next few months then, we'll see.

Sonic Rush seriously is the best sonic since Sonic & Knuckles in the good old days, if you're an old Sonic fan don't even hesitate to pick it up, you'll love it.

Anyways, it seems DS software sales actually ARE higher than the PSP's, taking into account they don't include the bundled copies of Mario Kart and Nintendogs.

GBA 1,213,196
PSP - 1,120,000
DS - 1,070,000

Nintendo was still on top of December, what they really need to start doing is converting those GBA fans towards the DS, it worked in Japan and if it happened here DS would be doubling PSP. Sadly I don't think people in the US are going to realise DS is the new GBA and plays GBA games until Pokemon hits, which could be as late as 2007. Unless there's another surprise hit, like Metroid Prime Hunters, which i'm not too sure about at the moment.

Now, if I'm correct, the US numbers do not include Wal*Mart sales at all (and Wal-Mart makes up, like, 35% of all video game sales according to EB and GameStop when they wanted to merge)....

Sonic Rush is good, despite problems like being unable to properly judge distances in boss fights, deathtraps that can only be avoided through trial and error and of course Sky Chase Zone it is a fun game and Dead Line Zone has to be one of the best Zones I've ever come across. Castlevania beats it for "best DS game" IMO, though.

Castlevania and Mario Kart DS so far are my most played DS games.

There are so many great games for the DS right now, I could care less about even the home consoles.

I'll second this... From what I've played of Sonic thus far, there are way to many deathtraps (bottomless pits) which can be avoided with better level design IMO - especially with all the new stage elements which require you to interact in a certain way or you simply pass right through them to your death.  So good, but not stellar, and *by far* much better than any of the 3D variations.

To me, who knows very little about how all this works, it seems this would be highly inaccurate.  I would assume that EBGames and such probably sell a higher percentage of Blitz the League and GTA in comparison to SpongeBob's latest adventure - whereas Wal*Mart likely sells much more Nicktoons Unite! and Pokémon Channel than Resident Evil 4 and such.

"Phoenix Wright deserves to sell more."

I haven't played this game yet, but everyone is telling me how awsome it is. I see Phoenix Wright with his signature pointing pose everywhere on the internet it seems I always had an interest in this game, but sadly I cannot find it anywhere (Same with AC:WW ;_; ). I've heard that Capcom has stoped production on this game. Does anybody know if this is true?

Seriously none of this is new information, everyone knew that the PSP outsold the DS in NA in 2005 (but the DS is still leading due to 2004 sales), while the DS ripped apart the PSP in Japan.

What's interesting is the fact that the GBA manages to beat both systems in NA, which indicates to me Ninty needs to drop the DS to $99 as soon as possible.

How were the PSP sales in Europe in 2005 compared to the DS?

Actually I think NOA just needs to advertise that the DS can play GBA games too then maybe they will be able to slowly phase out the GBA(assuming thats what they want to do). Otherwise 3 systems = 3 pillars and it seems to be working out just fine.

It's that time of the week again!

Media Create Sales: 9 - 15 Jan

1. NDS Brain Training 2 - 141,307 (845,885)
2. NDS Animal Crossing DS - 50,032 (1,565,251)
3. NDS Brain Training - 49,774 (1,321,504)
4. NDS Mario Kart DS - 39,182 (990,369)
5. PS2 Gun Parade Orchestra - 35,709 NEW
6. PSP Monster Hunter Portable - 34,937 (377,138)
7. PS2 Kingdom Hearts II - 32,880 (1,000,509)
8. NDS Mario & Luigi 2 - 29,639 (260,799)
9. NDS Gentle Brain Exercises - 25,780 (1,023,979)
10. NDS Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop! - 24,550 (870,921)

PSP Monster Hunter appearing from out of nowhere, it wasn't even in the top 10 last week, so it seems the DS shortage is in fact causing lots of people to go out and buy PSP's instead. I think it's quite obvious where the momentum is now, and it's not with DS. Japan was the only place DS was destroying PSP by a massive margin, now its lead is disappearing by the minute and soon it'll be pretty much gone. Way to screw up your one chance Nintendo.

looking at monster hunters sales, it looks like one of the best selling psp games out there. to say nintendo is blowing their "one" chance, is a little premature. theres 7 ds titles in the top 10 compared to one for the psp. its complete ds domination.
