DS should have 7 in the next month. Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Brain Training 1 and Gentle Brain Training (998k, close enough) have already crossed a million, with Brain Training 2, Mario Kart and Tamagotchi approaching. Wario Ware Touched and Super Mario 64 DS will also reach there soon as well, which will make 9.

Also, don't get your hopes up for Hardware Sales, considering DS is sold out it can't have sold too many, this chart is mostly the result of the HUGE train of new DS users over the past few weeks buying more software.

If you're being serious about the number of million sellers in Japan for PSP, the number is ZERO. I don't think any game has even sold a half million yet. It would be a shame if Nintendo ever left the console business, but if it did, I bet they could survive on handhelds alone.

The unofficial hardware numbers I saw matched those, except it was only 91,000 for DS, not 191,000.

Someone goofed.  Not sure who.

OH SHI! PACK YOUR THINGS NINTENDO. People obviously aren't falling for these Brain Training GIMICKS and this train of games. People don't WANT to buy games Nintendo! Look at PSP, one game in the top 30 and it's #1.

PSP has momentum and this is just the beginning. Highest selling system of 2006 so far.

This is a bad sign for Revolution, how can Nintendo possibly have a chance in the console market when they're even getting destroyed in the handheld market. Seriously, PSP outsold all Nintendo handhelds combined.

What's sad is that it seems highly likely that many Sony fans will be spinning that figure, most of them ignoring the outtages.

Yes, it seems Microsoft has done what Nintendo failed to do, have two similar systems co-existing. After DS was out GBA took a rather big fall, Xbox 360 isn't putting a dent in the consistancy of Xbox. Take notes, Nintendo.

Man.... I don't think anyone was expecting the DS to do so well..... I mean even now with the shortage it still has a decent number. If this is like anything we can expect to see on the console front, all will be right with the world.

Err..... actually, all would be right if Microsoft fell, Sega got back up, and we had the good ol' Nintendo vs. Sega situation again.

I still have yet to believe that the DS is a success in America.  The talk, the buzz, the hype is all PSP, regardless of whether it's actually selling or not.

Once new colors and *gasp* the DS: SP come out, the numbers will surely sky-rocket.

I, alone, know many people who are waiting for a re-design or the black or white DS. This includes myself (i'll take either one of three!).

Believe it or not, the DS is ugly. It's uncomfortable, the silver and black combination isn't very sleek, and its buttons are too small. That didn't stop me from enjoying a friend's copy of Trauma Center, but it did put a halt on any plans to buy it. Games that are purely touch-screen based, I could probably play for a long time. Anything else would probably give me a cramp....

Nintendo needs to hurry and get those out this spring before people give up on both the PSP and DS.

Just because you hear only the PSP mentioned during conversations doesn't mean that it has more hype - in fact, from what I've talked to people, its momentum has slowed down considerably, and many more people I know have bought a DS and no PSP. And with all the great games that have come out, including Nintendo's first online system, there's a game for everyone.

Also, there are small face buttons so that they can act as an alternative D-Pad for left handed players..

Regarding left handed, that was one of my biggest concerns, thats why Im very glad the DS is simetric, still there are things that are problematic, for instance in Nintendogs when I walk my dogs ( or any sidescrolling game for that matter), its from right to left, the normal way, I never cared about that since its the usual way every game is, but with the touchscreen, for us lefthanded people using the stylus in these situations means covering the screen completly with our hand, I know its just to walk a dog so the problem isnt that big (still Ive missed more than one present because I couldnt see them), but for game like Kirby DS I see big issues, thats why I'll probably never buy it.

Relax dudes, once the shortage is over the DS will be back on top in Japan. I don't know about in the US, but I think a DS SP has the potential to be a huge seller if it added some of the features the current DS is lacking but the PSP has, like MP3 and Movie capability. These are the features the DS SP must have, imho.

AFAIK, it is _lack_ of these features that sells the DS Japan. They've already got far better solutions for portable video/mp3s. Like Play-Yan, iPod/Video iPod, mp3 players, etc. No need to clutter the DS with them.

Whatever the PSP seems to already have over the DS in Japan, Japanese mobile phones already have.  Plus better pricing.  And a nation full of teenage girls to maintain the market.  And time travel.
