If anything, the Xbox 360 is causing the massive resurgence in Xbox sales the past month, it was in the double digits before, with sales almost DOUBLING that now, it's clear that Microsoft are the ones with the momentum going into the next generation.

I read something somewhere that it is expected for the PSP to have done worse than expected in November. (don't know how bad, however.)  I don't remember where I read that bit of info.

I think it is in US they were talking about, what I read.

And your point is?  I made my point.  I don't care if I didn't bother to take the time to write it perfectly, it was late and I was tired.  But to make you happy, I will rewrite my last sentence to make it meet with your grammar approval!

Holy sh!t!

In the US? Nintendo can't be beat in the handheld market, and as soon as they release a black or white DS, tally another one up for me.

I wonder when Sony will realize that they need some really good games to have a chance in the handheld market.  Porting PS2 games are not going to get them anywhere or is filling up retail stores with loads of psp movies instead of games.  It's gonna be great seeing Nintendo light up the holiday sales charts!

Does anyone remember off hand what the US DS vs PSP numbers are again...I know it's approximate, and it get's asked about every other page.

Does anyone at least maybe remember what page the latest ones were on?

Page 25, assuming your pages are the same as mine.

Basically, as of June of this year, it was about...

NDS: 1,850,000
PSP: 1,500,000

But those are just rough guesses. Then NPD vocally decided they didn't want the info getting out anymore, and the flow mostly dried up, but it's believed that the PSP continued it's trend of stomping the DS in America after a powerful launch (despite a Mario64DS bundle), finished closing the gap, and probably even pulled into the lead. (If you want a guess, I'd say just under 2 million for each of them.)

Then the second wave of DS games (Nintendogs, Castlevania, etc.) hit America, and is believed to have put the momentum back on Nintendo's side. How strong is anyone's guess. But it presumably held until now, with Mario Kart, WiFi, and Animal Crossing giving Nintendo an additional kick of unknown size. It's likely that with Nintendo being in the lead going into the holidays, and with nobody else having much going on in the console front (aside from some fruitless Xbox360 advertising), the DS will likely win a significant victory over the PSP. Possibly large enough to cement the PSP's doom in America. Unless Sony pulls a rabbit out of their hat. Then Nintendo is doomed, of course. (But seriously, if the PSP manages to win Christmas somehow, then the DS might not ever recover in America. It's a very dangerous time in the console war.)

I actually think the Xbox 360 will do in PSP.  Why?  Those that actually know portable gaming know that DS is the better system and will buy it.  Nobody questions Nintendo's product as having better software, and more variety.

Those that don't know the industry very well are all trying to pick up that Xbox 360 and would sell their souls for it.  I don't see parents buying a portable system to justify not finding the Xbox 360.  I see them buying either more games, or whatever is the second big thing on the shopping list.

I agree that the Xbox 360 is hurting the PSP. Remember the sluggish PSP launch in North America? Everybody was all like "Yeah, well that's only because it launched in March. Just wait until the holiday season. It'll be the big 'must have' item of the year."

Although I think the PSP just about lost all the hype it had going for it at launch anyway, the 360 is considered in the mainstream to be the "Big must have item" of the holiday season. The 360 is stealing whatever limelight the PSP could've had.

Indeed, this will be quite the competive christmas, eh? PSP is just an overly glorified DVD wanna be player with extra options that just not worth the price of admission to watch, I'd rather have a portable DVD player then I could watch all my movies on the go. Not go out and buy a UMD that's inferior to DVD.

That's why I have a DS, more entertaining

Oh btw OT, How's my new avatar?   I'm sure bill would approve.

The PSP is doing alot better in America than in Japan I believe.  I know the PSP GTA game sold well the other month.  And so did Madden.

I don't think the DS is dead even if the PSP is in the lead.  There's room for both.  The DS is at the lower end of the handheld market.  And it's unique at that.  PLus there's the gameboy advance.  I did here Reggie say they are going to revise the DS hardware a bit to make it look sexier like the PSP.

You "know"? Meaning? Your EB store sold ten of them? Analysts were saying last week how bad game sales had been in November, and PSP was on the disappointing list.

I read good numbers somewhere about gta, but I know that nintendogs and Mario kart also sold very well, and that in nintendogs release week DS outsold the pspby a bunch, and last NPD figures were very good for the DS, and the psp numbers were misteriously not there.

Perhaps the XCircle stole the PSP's thunder? The PSP doesn't have a better lineup than the XC anyway.

What I don't get is how people can keep saying that either of these systems are "doomed".  The sales are basically even in North America and DS is only outselling PSP by maybe 2:1 in Japan.  If that's all it takes to doom PSP, then GameCube should have disappeared from the market years ago.  If anything this is the closest battle the industry has seen since the days of the Super NES and Genesis.

The same thing goes for DS.  Of course we don't hear too many comments about DS being doomed in this forum nowdays, but I do hear it elsewhere, and the people thinking that are just nuts.  Both systems are going to be around for a long time.
That's my opinion, not yours.
