When I got the game I didn't even go home first, I walked right back into best buy to the Geek Squad counter and plugged into their WiFi (so to speak)

Yeah I can't stand that! If I am loosing constantly I still race, If my opponents are winning they deserve it and I continue. You will never see me "Wushu Lv3" disconnect from a race just because im loosing. Though a couple of times I got disconnected while I had huge leads in races and points.

Whaaaaa????

That statement makes no sense.  Are you saying the people getting the game for Xmas are more likely to go online with the game than the people who went out and bought it the first week?

Even if 10,000,000 people get the game for Christmas, if the same ratio of them go online that number will still be 45%....

Uh, no. I'm saying that some people who bought the game for their friends and families will not be able to play that game until Christmas day, when they open their gifts and get to play it...

Here is some math:

112,000 sold in one week.

45% played online, which will be 50,400.

There are 61,600 that didn't play online, but how many of those are wrapped in foil and will not be able to open it to play it until Christmas?

I get it, at first I didn't. Also there are those who have the game yet have no working DS to play it on.

Reports are coming in saying Animal Crossing DS sold over 300,000 in it's first two days of release in Japan, and DS sales "greatly increased". Of course, we got a report like this when Jump Superstars came out and it turned out to be a bit lower in the actual sales chart, but I think 300,000 for this is believable, we'll see.

PSP Giga Pack released, PSP sales should drop off next week. It's pretty odd that people aren't buying games with their new PSP's.

Oh yeah, you guys that thought all these massive DS sales were just in Japan? THINK AGAIN!
Quote

For the last three weeks, sales of Nintendo DS exceeded 100,000 units per week, and last week alone sales topped 120,000 across Europe.

That's even MORE than Japan!

Hit releases like Nintendogs are also having a massive impact on Nintendo's hand-held popularity, reaching new gamers and creating an overnight phenomenon. Since its launch on October 7th in Europe, over 1 million copies of the game have been sold. Nintendogs has become like gold dust across Europe with stocks flying off shelves as soon as they arrive in store.

To be fair, how many franchises has Nintendo introduced since then?

Quite a few, actually. Smash Bros., Paper Mario, Custom Robo, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, Legend of Stafi, WarioWare, Magical Vacation, Band Brothers, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and Cubivore--or was that just published by Nintendo? I dunno.

There's also Geist and Eternal Darkness, which were primarily developed by other companies, but which Nintendo had a hand in making, and which they published and now own. Don't know if you'd count them. I think they own Doshin, too, and maybe the Skip games, Chibi Robo and Giftpia... Not sure about their involvement in or ownership of Golden Sun, Another Code, Detect Hacker, or Wish Room, though.

Well, you could say that Smash Bros, Paper Mario and Wario Ware are part of existing franchises. But, yeah, you're right...

And where does Advace Wars and Fire Emblem fit in? I know they are published by Nintendo, but doesn't someone else program/develop them? Or are they kind of like Metroid Prime, Nintendo originals, just programed by someone else.

Those two are developed by Intelligent Systems, which is an internal studio inside Nintendo. Those franchises, along with Custom Robo, are only new to the US, though, as there have been incarnations of them in Japan for eons.

If Ninty publishes a new franchise, I'm fairly sure the fate of it is entirely in their hands...Like with Rare, they had the ability to keep the franchises but went ahead and gave them up...

Since Camelot is so buddy-buddy with Ninty, I'd say that Golden Sun (and any future Camelot franchises) are Ninty's...I'd assume the other games such as Another Code are Ninty's as well...

Did Nintendo have the ability to keep Rare's franchises without a legal fight?  I just don't buy into the fact that Nintendo just let stuff that could be theirs...  Actually I just checked Rareware copyrighted Perfect Dark as well as published it themselves.  So if Nintendo fought all they'd get is Banjo/Conker (maybe don't have those games to check on publication).

Bill, I just don't think the business world works like that...
