I think DS this holiday season has the best lineup any system has ever had in such a short time. It's going to come down to how many DS's Nintendo can ship to stores.

In November/December there's Animal Crossing, Pokemon Dungeon, Mario Kart, Mario & Luigi 2, Dragon Quest Slime Mori Something, Brain Training 2, Mushi King DS, Sonic Rush, Super Monkey Ball, Dragon Ball Z DS. All of those are pretty much guaranteed at least 100,000 sales, some will go MUCH higher. There also could be some surprises like the budget priced Simple DS series and that English Training, games like that, also i'm probably forgetting some. Not to mention the games that are already out which will get a nice boost like Nintendogs.

PSP has less games than that even being RELEASED, and of those the only ones I think might make a splash are Talkman (tiny splash), or maybe the uh... Metal Gear Acid budget re-release. Ok, seriously, PSP has nothing.

Let's not forget about GBA too. The new Rockman games are going to be big and lets not forget about a little title called Final Fantasy. (I think FF4 is the one being released this year)

GTA: LCS will be big in the US and Europe, it wont make a dent in Japan, in fact it isn't being released there. I should have clarified that i was talking about Japan in my post.

PSP is also getting remakes of the original Mega Man and Mega Man X games.  I'm not sure if they're going to be out before the end of the year.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Even worse, the Megaman remake will include a level editor. I hope they'll give us an editor for some DS games, too. After all, using an editor with gamepad controls SUCKS.

PSP might as well give up on Japan and stick to NA and europe.

I wonder what will happen to the PSP's sales in japan once the ipod video shows up there, I mean most japanese use it for UMD's but will that continue?

DS     39,137
PSP    31,089
PS2    25,328
GBM    24,568
GBASP    9,837
GC    1,486
GBA    323
Xbox    106

PSP has done better since the White one came out. But expect a surge to 50,000 or so next week with Princess Peach, Where Do Babies and Pokemon Torouze coming out. PSP should drop to 26-29,000.

Top five handheld games in NA:

1. Nintendogs: Chihuahua and Friends (DS) - 85,117
2. Madden NFL 2006 (PSP) - 82,527
3. Nintendogs: Labrador and Friends (DS) - 81,810
4. Nintendogs: Dachshund and Friends (DS) - 73,711
5. Pokemon Emerald (GBA) - 68,490

Also, the DS is now back in the lead for total game sales. According to Nintendo Insider the PSP had taken the lead last month but now it's back to 4,663,371 for the DS to the PSP's 4,656,258. This month and next will be interesting. The last two weeks have seen a ton of high-profile DS releases, plus we should expect continued strong sales for Nintendogs. The PSP gets Liberty Stories on the 24th, so it will have a week worth of sales for that. I imagine the DS will hold a slim lead as it has more than a single title to go on. Then it should regain a large margin of victory when November hits with Mario Kart. Though PSP system numbers  for September are currently unkown it seems likely the DS held on to its lead, seeing as it saw a huge spike itself and the PSP had no noteworthy releases.

Does NPD = US...that can't be right if it is...that would mean over 7 million Nintendogs sold, even though if that's worldwide sales, 7 million is still an incredible number.

From Gamecube Sales Thread (September sales) - DS = 164,000

I'm actually quite surprised at the relatively low DS sales numbers. 164,000, even with Nintendogs (late August), Another Code (granted, a little late), Advance Wars, and all the other decent titles that have come out. Those are all quality titles, and they should have helped move a lot more DSes off shelves.  Nintendogs must have sold some DSes in August and some in September, but in August the sales were up only 26% from the previous month...

I'll wait for the Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan sales - they should be exceptionally strong with all the mouthwatering titles coming up. Castlevania got released on Oct. 4 as well, so it should count towards October and make that month even stronger for the DS

EDIT: for Another Code sales so far - 5,000 copies in 5 days - hopefully it keeps selling in Oct. I saw quite a few commercials for it online too...
