I don't think any one 1 game has sold to even 1/4 of the PS3 userbase, the software sales are really really bad
in japan.

edit: thats weird, I wrote this as a reply to Ceric about 2 hours ago, and it just went through... my internets iz broken

Famitsu Dec. 11 - 17
http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/200...64776,0,0.html

01 NDS Pokemon D/P
02 NDS Kirby
03 PS2 Ryu Ga Gotoku 2
04 NDS Fushigi no Dungeon Shiren DS
05 NDS Rockman
06 NDS Love and Berry DS Collection
07 NDS New SMB
08 PS2 Wild Arms V
09 NDS Jump Ultimate Stars
10 Wii Wii Sports

Where are all the Wii games? Is new/next gen doomed to fail in Japan because of DS domination? Does no one care about consoles any more? Well, we'll see what happens when Media-Create is released later today, I'm sure things might look a little different.

But NSMB is back in the Top 10, with a chance at hitting 4mil now
P: D/P = 3.7mil
NSMB = 3.5mil

and suppoedly DS is at around 400k for the week and just under a 1mil for the first 2 weeks of Dec.
DQMJ is supposed to launch in 2 weeks in Japan, so its possible that DS could hit real close to 2mil in one month in Japan.

Wii will do better eventually, it's just a matter of Wii competing against a system that has, what, like 14 million users in Japan?  If you look to the early days of DS, it would be no surprise that PS2 games kept dominating the top 10 instead of DS.

Though now that you mention it, I took a peek at VGcharts, and according to them the top 20 all-time games in Japan are heavily dominated by Game Boy and DS.
That's my opinion, not yours.

There was that chart comparing Super Mario World to NSMB - apparently, SMB and SMB3 did really well in Japan (obviously) but SMW was weak there compared to the rest of the world. I wonder how much New Super Mario Bros has sold worldwide..

But what about Zelda? It didn't even make the Top 30. Did the Wii sell out to all the Non-gamers? Are all the Zelda fans stuck with a GC at the moment and have to purchase that version off the internet(which isn't tracked by MC)? Is Zelda just a HUGE flop or can we blame it on a software shortage?

But as far as Nintendo Hardware Dominating the software charts yet again....

Zelda is selling fine, I'm sure. There just aren't a ton of people capable of buying it right now! When a new Pokemon game sells less than 70,000 in its first week you know you have hardware supply problems!

I know. It's too bad, I'm really hyped for Blue Dragon too... You know if this was on PS3 or Wii it would have been #1-3 up there for sure! ... Actually only if it were for DS.... or Wii.

It's not that uncommon for second-tier RPGs to fall off the chart pretty fast.  We've been seeing it all year - I remember it happening to a few, particularly Xenosaga III.  And don't forget, at 80,000 units sold, about 1/3 of all Xbox 360 owners in Japan already have Blue Dragon.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Also cool I think is that 318,473 copies of Wii Sports have been purchased. That means that over half of the Wii customers are buying Wii Sports as well. Which bodes well for continued development of Wii Play / Wii Sports type of games, and that makes me happy.

I'm actually stunned the 360 has over 200k sold in Japan...
