New Super Mario Bros is now pretty much the highest selling Mario game of all time, not counting SMB with its pack-in or whatever.

Actually, it has a ways to go.

Wouldn't have thought that Mario 64 would have 11+ mil copies under its belt...

Was that me?!

That seems low for the US.  I remember Nintendo actually releasing US numbers for 64 games and Mario 64 had sold near 10 million in the US with Zelda OOT going for 6.5 million and Goldeneye selling 7.5 million.  If you add the DS version it's over 16 million according to that chart.  I wonder how many downloads of it have occurred on the VC.

Well all  those games you mentioned are TOTAL sales. You see, I'm just talking about 2006' sales. 9 mil world wide.

Heh, I was actually responding to SB.  I should've quoted him or been clearer.  I agree with you that 9 million by the end of the year is very likely.  Possibly closer to 10 million with the way the DS is selling right now.

NSMB has probably passed SMW, although I don't think it's above Super Mario Bros 3. VGCharts says it is, but I'd like to see more solid sales figures. Worldwide, I'd like to see it reach at least N64 level..

Are you kidding me? It's only one of the best games created, which pioneered analogue control, had the best 3D world ever at the time, and took the world by storm. Not to mention it was one of only two N64 games available at launch.

Hm... Well Xbox got a holiday boost. 11 units sold

I'd be curious to see what the European and US holiday numbers are. But I gather we won't get that info until mid-January, if ever for Europe. Wii is about 2 million, but that was through november.

I'm happy to see Love and Berry hold its own in the top 10. The game will easily hit 1 million soon. I'm also pleased  to see the # of Wii sales compared to PS3... Oh, and the lack of any PS3 titles in the top 50 aside from Armored Core 4, and thats at 26.
Currently Playing: Twilight Princess(Wii), Castlevania: PoR(DS), Mario vs. Donkey Kong2(DS), Wii sports(Wii)
Anticipating: Mario Galaxy(Wii), Blue Dragon(360), Dragon Quest:Swords(Wii), Dragon Quest IX (DS)

Yea... You could spin these Christmas week sales numbers by saying that the competition for a weekly top 10 title was stiff. 135,000 units as the minimum to enter the top 10 is quite high. (the non-holiday average, for 10th place, (looking back through posts) is around 20-25k)

But, but that shouldn't prevent PS3 from having more then one title in the top 50. I mean this was Christmas week. You get extra sales because, you know, it's Christmas.

It's funny Zelda is in 21st but probably sold around 50,000 or something. That's good for nearly top 5 usually. I suspect the next three weeks will see that 20ish trio of Wii games get much much closer to the top 10. Zelda will probably have the slowest climb past a million of any major title.

Zelda won't reach a million.  It's just no longer popular enough in Japan.  The popular games are the "non-games" like Wii-sports and Brain Training, not true traditional games minus Mario and Final Fantasy.

So I expect Zelda to get no higher than 500,000 in Japan.

Yup, Famitshoe condemned Zelda.  39/40 or whatever the score was.

The market no longer needs it.

Heh, that's funny, the majority of publications and reviews have deemed this Zelda better than any other before it, yet it got a lower score from Famitsu than Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker which both got 40/40.  Funny funny stuff.

Which is why New Super Mario Bros. is the highest selling individual DS game, right? (second if you count the two Pokemon games as one)

If Zelda doesn't sell a million it's only because of a lack of launch supplies. But it will. It's already coming close to 500,000 and should pass it by the end of January (at least).

It makes sense--Wind Waker was perfect.  Although, I did feel a bit gypped when Jabun just up and gave me the third pearl without completing a dungeon.

Twilight Princess lost a point because it was "too hard", which actually earns it an extra point in my book.  41/40.

Yeah, WW did get a perfect score from Famitsu...which is weird because I thought the game felt rushed and incomplete in some areas (and Nintendo DID confirm that they deleted two dungeons so they could meet the deadline), it was easier than the earlier Zelda games and the final boss battle was a disappointment. Not to mention that the game put too much emphasis on graphics than tightening the gameplay and challenge.

The story was neat, though.

I thought the final WW boss was actually challenging, unlike the TP bosses which were all pushovers.

If anything, I thought TP was too easy, which further makes me want to spit on the Famitsu editors.

I meant disappointing as in I expected some more epic akin to the boss battles in OoT and MM. I was expecting to face Ganondorf more than once in the final battle.

The bosses were challenging, yeah, but the game felt easier for me...
