So is inventing a critic to give your own movies rave reviews but that didn't stop Sony either.

Doing so would artificially inflate revenues, so unless they disclose that they're doing it, it's probably a violation of SEC regulations. That's actually not too far off what Enron was doing.

It'd be much easier to hide it for Sony, though. I'm sure their books are filled with transactions which are difficult to trace.

All they'd need to do is donate a couple mil to a "charity" which would then make that money disappear.

It sounds far-fetched, but the reality is that it would definitely explain why software sells so poorly on the PSP yet they seem to have millions upon millions of them sold. The DS has several million sellers so software is not an issue there, but I don't know if the PSP has ever made those numbers.

Anyone have links or sources on the subject?

Monster Rancher for the PSP seems to have tapered off at around 600,000 units sold in Japan (not sure if it's even stateside yet).

I bet they could do some neat minigames in a DS version of Monster Rancher: I loved the GBA verison.

Here's an idea: you know how the Playstation ones you insert a disc in the drive to generate a monster? How about for the DS version you insert a GBA Cart?

LoL that's great I love that. Hoooray for Harry Potter.

The wand chooses the wizard, remember...  I think we must expect great things from you, Mr. Potter, after all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things -- terrible yes, but great.

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is Voldemort :-P

oh and whats up with the ds lites?? any "normal people" (not video game site editors, cuz they're special) get their's yet?
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Well I can see the motive in doing it, but why stop at systems?  I'm sure buying games (bigger sales) would create the illusion of smaller risks to developpers.

This would be really interesting if it were true.

I'm just speculating, but like I said, if Sony's willing to invent a film critic to give glowing reviews to craptacular movies, where's the line for them?

well wandering I was being sarcastic, I hate Sony, well Playstation to be exact I actualy by a lot, practicaly everything I have, sony products. I have great faith in their electronics they rarely fail and are always high quality (playstation excluded as its just crap well Ps2 and Psp ps1 was good enough)

I have no desire to ever get a PSP for any reason, but I would like to replace my Ipod with a new Walkman mp3 player mostly because they use those memory cards that can be upgraded where as once Ipod is full the only way to upgrade is buy a bigger Ipod. And I already bought 2 I dont need to buy anymore.

that'd be a pricey MP3 player: a PSP and a 2 GB memory stick costs as much as a 60 GB iPod.

I thought buying your own product to inflate sales numbers and make it into the charts was SOP in the music industry? It's not illegal as far as I can tell. Bribing DJs, now that is illegal but the courts didn't see a reason to fine them for more than one million dollars when convicting them for a repeat offense. The proper reaction would be to ban the convicts from commerce or even forcefully dissolve them.

I think we must expect great things from you, Mr. Potter, after all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things -- terrible yes, but great.

Don't worry, you can call his name as long as you don't go through the entire summoning process:

THE FIFTY NAMES OF MARDUK
1.The First Name is MARDUK.
The Lord of Lords, Master of Magicians. His name should not be called
except when no other will do, and it is the most terrible
responsibility to do so. The word of his calling is DUGGA.

This, the first name of MARDUK, should only be used when life is
threatened. It is not wise to use it on any other occasion, of
flippantly in way. To do so would be to render the other seals and
names worthless, for MARDUK would abandon you to your fate.

See? Al-Hazred is using the name outside of the invocation and it doesn't seem like Marduk abandoned him (after all, he wrote down the 49 other names as well). On the other hand, he did not say Yog...

p.S.: If the invokation did not work the plane crash on 9/11/2001 was not enough to release Him, after all a whole side of the Pentagon has to be destroyed to break the seal.

(Now THIS is serious geek literature.)

Now see, I've never understood why it's perfectly legal for a company to pay a radio station to play a 30 second jingle to try to sell a product, but it's 100% illegal for a company to pay a radio station to play a 3 min jingle to try and sell a product...

Because these big companies pay the stations to play nothing but their products (and some inane babbling), cutting out competitors and pretending these selections were done by the listeners (in fact they even hired people to call during the "audience suggestions" and ask for the songs they want played). The charts are faked, those "newly discovered stars" were preplanned by the companies, the whole deal is a big lie. I think this law was put in place after seeing how the music industry acts, not a priori.

Many normally legal actions become a crime if you are a monopoly.

it depends on how you go about doing it. I always ask my friends to call in and request my songs on the radio and they do it for free. just to hear my songs on the radio.

FFXII sold almost 2 million in it's launch week!? Wow... I've read that it wasn't as high as previous FF launches though. Imagine if Nintendo did get exclusive SE support? Would it bring them back on top automatically at the announcement?
