i believe i read that the Animal Crossing in release now will not be released in Europe or Australia because of the difference in holidays and whatnot. For some reason though it will be released in Japan. Evidently they have a version that does not feature stuff like certain items, events, or an eReader option.
The sequel though I'm willing to bet will be released everywhere come 2004.
That's my 2 cents!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Super MarioBros: minus one world
« on: May 23, 2003, 07:31:37 PM »
FYI, saving games on the NES usually involved holding down the RESET button while powering off, not holding in the power button.

Wouldnt it be cool if they made a Mario title that revolved around a Minus World theme? That would be a fun trip.

I've played Animal Crossing almost every day since i bought it last Spetember. I wonder if anything happens on the year anniversary. Highly addictive, just like Ikaruga. Awesome!

All the games i have everyone else does too, but what the hell:

Resident Evil Rebirth
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 2 (despite crappy trasnfer, i just had to)
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (ditto)
Animal Crossing
Super Monkey Ball 1,2 (2 has better party games)
Super Mario Sunshine
Wind Waker
Ocarina of Time/Master Quest
UFC Throwdown
Madden 2003
Splinter Cell
Tiger Woods 2003
Eternal Darkness
Pikmin

Honestly however I cannot recommend Mario Sunshine. Wind Waker is a significant disappointment in my opinion, so i say rent first.

Is it just me, or are things kinda ho-hum with unique games? I know i know, i'm dying to get
F-Zero, RE4, etc--but i mean right now. I've only been playing AC as of late. Nevermind, I'm just picky.

simply put, i want more. MORE MORE MORE!!!
more items, more variety in villagers and dialogue, more variety in activities and events, more customization in characters, housing, etc., more variety in village and island geography, more NES games, more secrets, more variety in villager interaction and activity, more variety in museum, more intuitive item control, more variety in communication, more more more!!!

i'd also love more items that actually do something, like a trash can that could actually hold trash, cabinets and whatnot that held more than 3 items, stoves that fire up, more more more!!
also, stronger graphics, more random events, more music, more more more!

lastly, a huge wish is that i could somehow transfer my present AC town and/or character to the sequel, and then from that point add on to it. more!

General Chat / RE: X-2 : The SPOILER I've seen it topic
« on: May 07, 2003, 07:57:04 PM »
Sandra Bullock does NOT play Rogue in X-men; it's oscar winner Anna Paquin.
Doesn't anyone think before they post?
Iceman is HOT.
And did anyone else find it hilarious when Scott was all aghast when Jean as Xavier said goodbye? That look was priceless.
I cannot wait for X3! I hope that Phoenix kicks ass, that Storm will go all out, that Rogue and Bobby see more action, and that Gambit, Jubilee, and Beast make their rightful debuts.

i concur. Electronic Gaming Monthly is the best console gaming magazine out there. The staff have brains, a good sense of humour, and excellent writing and grammar skills.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo and Rare
« on: April 27, 2003, 02:27:25 PM »
Oh my god, I am SO with you on the Zelda Mario thing!!!

Finally! Vindication!

Imagine a three dimensional mario game using zelda's battle mechanics to aim your fireballs, position your jumping, etc???

Conker's Bad Fur Day was my Rare introduction. Brilliant! It was sad to see Rare go, but i'm so over it.
Time for something new!

And if the new Conker game is any good, guess im gonna have to get an Xbox to play it.

Nintendo Gaming / Music in Games
« on: April 27, 2003, 02:13:46 PM »
WHOA, whoa, wait a minute.

Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 has AWESOME music.
You SMB fans know it, this music i so kickin. Try playing it loud with ample bass--sweet!
So fun! Ignore those orchestral snobs!

Here are some of my choices for Outstanding Achievment in Music:

Yoshi's Island (SNES)
Super Adventure Island (SNES)
Chrono Cross (PS1)
Final Fantasy VI
LoZ: Majora's Mask
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
Tetrisphere (N64)

Animal Crossing, 1080 (N64), Super Mario Kart (SNES), and F-Zero X (N64) have great soundtracks too.

I wish Wind Waker used actual orchestral music instead of synth. Ah well, one day.

And whose heart doesn't melt when they hear music from the original Super Mario Bros.?

TalkBack / Billy Berghammer Retires From Planet GameCube.com
« on: April 18, 2003, 08:36:05 PM »
BILLEH!!! Nooo!!!

I've been a very devoted fan of PGC for a few years now. It's my FIRST stop for up to the minute and honest Nintendo news. I don't know you, but I very much have appreciated your efforts. It's guys like you that make dorks like me secure in our passions.....
...too bad I don't much care for Game Informer. Hey Billy, now that you're on that team, can you make sure the reviews are more coherent and the that there are less grammatical errors? And fix up the lay out please. If only you could work for EGM. Ah, piss. Good luck from California!

Nintendo Gaming / Ikaruga out tomorow anybody exited?
« on: April 14, 2003, 02:05:34 PM »
Oh so tomorrow is when Ikaruga is coming out.
Excellent! I'm very excited. I'm a little tired of the cutesy fair on my Cube as of late; Wind Waker especially. While I'll always have an hour set aside for Animal Crossing, I'm very stoked about the assbeating i'm hoping to get with Ikaruga. Mmmmm.

I am really hating warping and sailing around getting those damned triforce pieces.
The best part of the game so far for me in terms of combat is the Savage Dungeon. Finally, some challenge.
And for real! The puzzles in this game are 99% weak. Half the time I walk into a room, I freelook about the area and can already figure everything out.
It's really a bummer. It's like a twinkie that didn't get enough filling.
Come on Nintendo!!! Mario's been stained, not Zelda too! Why are you doing this to me???

12
Also, seems Spectacle Rock from "A Link to the Past" has become Spectacle Island now.
Awesome!
I wish more stuff from LTTP could be looked at more closely, like where and what exactly is Somaria, from which the Cane of Somaria is from? (the staff that creates blocks)
And Byrnna, origin of the Cane of Byrnna? (the staff that creates a protective barrier)
And for that matter, who or what the hell is Majora? THAT is the story I want to know more about. What's the story behind that ancient tribe that made it?
And one more thing....what was the deal with the mask salesman? What's his story? Why was Tatl so freaked by him?

...sorry for rambling.

Nintendo Gaming / Vertical Lines in Windwaker
« on: April 05, 2003, 12:30:10 PM »
I see these vertical lines too during Wind Waker, usually at dawn or when there is a shift in light.
I doubt it's a disc defect or a system error. I'm guessing its something akin to slowdown. It's not permanent, very minor, and not a big deal.

I love Wind Waker, its a beautiful and fun game, but hell--i have problems with it too.  To the immature, foolish, childish fanboys/girls who think there is nothing wrong, give us a break.

Negatives:

Too easy. Its a Zelda standard to have things essentially spelled out for you, with different color type or some naked clue, but come on. This game has been hella easy so far. The bosses are indeed wimps. Gogeous to behold and exciting to experience, believe me, but small challenge.

Item collecting. What, did Rare have a hand in this game? Find the map, find the treasure. Yawn.
And what the hell is up with the iron boots and gold bracelets? I too wish Nintendo had delayed the game to include the axed dungeons. I want to EARN this shiznit. With the power of the Cube, there could have been more enemies in certain areas of the dungeons.

That's about it for me. Im really enjoying the story and how its presented. It's a bit too easy and too much f'ing collecting, though i guess treasure hunting makes sense with the ocean theme.
I still recommend Wind Waker highly. I still think the best games are A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. Still king and queen to me.

Hello Legend of Zelda theorists!
I've done my own research into the legends' chronology. I pulled information from various sources, including game manuals and the game plots, and I believe I've come upon the definitive time line for the Legends of Link & Zelda:

Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening
Oracle of Seasons/Ages
The Legend of Zelda
The Adventure of Link
The Wind Waker

I'm ignoring Four Swords cuz I havent played it yet.
I havent finished Wind Waker yet.
But from what I've read--I dont mind spoilers--if Hyrule ceases to be, then it makes sense for Wind Waker to be the "most recent" legend.
I dont buy the idea that Link's Awakening happened between the first legend and the second legend. Actually, I havent even finished that game yet if you can believe it. I s'pose after the gameboy player comes out and i can finish LA, then I can review my theories. Whatever!

Nintendo Gaming / SSB3!! IS IT IN THE WORKS?
« on: March 27, 2003, 07:36:09 PM »
Super Smash Bros. Melee 2

This killer title needs:

-Online play
-more moves for original characters (ie: deku leaf for young link, flamethrower for samus, waterpack for mario, etc)
-more Nintendo characters: Capt. Olimar, a red Pikmin, a human from Animal Crossing, etc)
-brand crossovers! Sega, Capcom

That idea of Nintendo consoles duking it out is awesome.
This game should just be all whacked out with crazy attacks and have more options for gameplay, like a 3D arena, story mode, etc.

Lets all email Nintendo guys!

Nintendo Gaming / ZELDA'S Legends
« on: March 24, 2003, 10:59:14 AM »
It would be great if Nintendo did that. It wold be even better if they glossied up the graphics too. I'd settle for nice and clean SNES quality. Even better would be if Nintendo could take those lame CD-i Zelda titles and rework them to actually make them fun. I have always wanted to control Princess Zelda. I mean, for all these Legends of Zelda, we still know nothing new about the bitch!

General Gaming / System Failures?
« on: March 11, 2003, 12:28:09 PM »
wasnt the Wonderswan a huge success in japan?  i know it just recently folded, but it still gave the GBC a run for its money right?

ha! the Virtual Boy....what an embarrassment! Cool though, but well....

dont forget Sega

Sega CD, Sega 32X, Saturn.
What else was there? How did the Game Gear fair?

And of course there's the Atari Jaguar, the Lynx, Turbo Grafx-16, 3DO, the Atari 7800.
How long did the Sega Master System fair against the NES? What about the Odyssey? The Channel F thing, etc....

General Gaming / WHAT ON EARTH? This can't be true. PS3 THIS YEAR?
« on: March 11, 2003, 12:18:12 PM »
when it comes to the gaming industry, the popular media often gets things wrong or falls victim to corporate hornblowing.

fuk off, i say. lets enjoy what we got now

Sad to say but my Super NES and GBA are gathering dust.

The largest chunk of my gaming life was during the SNES heyday, and its now not more than a revered totem. And i get just too tired and cramped playing the GBA after a while, so im waiting for the Gc/GB player so i can use the GC controller and also not have to squint or adjust for light.

When I'm not playing either my Cube or PS2, or if my boyfriend is hogging one of em, I'm enjoying the classics on my good ol' NES.

Oh, and i've barely touched my PSone as of late. Poor thing. It's so cute too. But never shall I sell it!

Nintendo Gaming / More delays....
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:56:23 AM »
ming, are you being serious?

cuz i was SO DEPRESSED at F-Zero being delayed until the end of the year practically. One hopes they are extra super polishing it, and mayhaps we can get some online play???
Sadness, sadness.

But i guess it is a good thing. Money is tight right now and I did want to get the GC/GB player in May.....if that is INDEED its release date, Nintendo!!!!!!

And i guess I really shouldnt expect Animal Crossing 2 at years end, eh?

Nintendo Gaming / Console Reliability (~82% for all of them)
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:48:29 AM »
in my experience, my gamecube is the most reliable, only overheating once when my boyfriend played UFC Throwdown for 8 hours nonstop.

My PS2 has infuriatingly frozen when playing some games, and has occasionally got all wacky when playing DVDs. I forget what i read, but just how poorly made is the PlayStation 2? I got mine just over a year ago.
My PSone can also be a shoody POS. That has gone buggy more than a couple times during games.
So aggravating in the heat of an adventure.

Also, thankfully for some reason I have never frozen during Eternal Darkness. What could cause this for all you out there?

And I dont have an Xbox yet, not until Conker's Return, and the embiggening of my wallet.

Nintendo Gaming / top 10 gamecube games
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:39:30 AM »
Oh Sh!t

I totally forgot about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles!
Dammit. Well, I put it at #4, knocking everything down, save for Pokemon, which must be sacrificed for Final Fantasy's return.

Nintendo Gaming / Music in Games
« on: March 09, 2003, 06:38:30 PM »
the following games have EXCELLENT music:

Maniac Mansion
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Kirby's Adventure
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Super Metroid
Yoshi's Island
Tetrisphere (especially when you input the secret code to access the extra "old school" style music)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (especially the vampire's castle)
Eternal Darkness
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
Metriod Prime

also very notable are:

Wild Arms
Saiyuki: Journey West
Chrono Cross
Ico
Silent Hill 2
Rez

Also, the Vanilla Dome music in Super Mario World is very memorable.
Most of those SNES and N64 titles, I use to actually just put them on for the music while i did some work.  So classic!
Why, oh why, can't their be more orchestrated music in Nintendo titles? Has anyone heard the Ocarina of Time orchestrated soundtrack CD? Excellent!
