General Chat / Funny discussion with an Xbox owner
« on: January 27, 2004, 02:21:30 PM »
Normally I don't get dragged into a brag fest amongst fan-boys; but today I couldn't helpmyself.

My neighbour was telling us about his Xbox..cool. He asked me what I played, which I replied GameCube. Well, the slags started flying. "Xbox trounced GameCube last year"; to which I replied, "no - check your facts" and mentioned a couple of stats I heard on the forums.  "Madden isn't available on Cube" - to which I replied "no -check any store. Various other dumbass statements like this came from him. Finally, what seemed to be the last desperate comment from him to prove the worth of Xbox "Xbox system and processor kicks the ass of anything else; especially GameCube" - my reply "If it is so great, why is Microsoft using ATI and IBM as the source of their next processors and chipset???" Sure, we know the answer is the falling out between MS and Nvidia - but he didn't know that.

Anyway - I wish people would just enjoy games and celebrate what each system has their own stand out attributes - versus trying to brainwash others why their system of choice sucks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Launch Order (Revisted)
« on: January 09, 2004, 06:15:57 AM »
I think everyone is way off on "simpler games" and "graphics aren't everything." Look at Mario Kart, great graphic, simple game, excellent experience. Want other examples? 1080, Smash, Mario Golf etc. etc. etc. I think they are just saying that graphics doesn't make or break a game; and that they aren't going to be the leaps and bounds that we've seen recently (seriously, Madden, NHL, RE, Rogue Squadron all look pretty damn good). They want to remain focused on gameplay. Remeber how basic Super Mario Brothers 3 was? Run, jump, run fast, trick.

My interpretation of this is that the next Nintendo machine will have equally amazing specs to Sony and Microsoft, with renewed focus on gameplay. Imagine a new Mario game with "Toy Story" graphics and gameplay of a Mario Brothers 3; or even Super Mario 64.

Because they say simpler games doesn't mean everything from them is going to be Tetris or Pong.

Sega has been flirting with being broke since the demise of the Dreamcast (well the Saturn actually); which is a big shame - but true. Nobody has said they are not around anymore, the comment is that Sega is not the powerhouse they used to be, not even close.

Does anyone know if they fixed the control of this game? I was so pissed at RE-make and RE Zero at the STUPID control scheme.

Frankly, they aren't around anymore.

DAMN!!! You stole my post. You know what....that is a sad, sad point. Sega will re-invent themselves...they deserve to be in this business WAY more than either Sony or MicroSoft.

the first point is that MS online network is already in place... (saves Nintendo mad $ and employee resources); missing my point here....we don't know what Nintendo has in place. If they have spent gobs of cash on a system that we are not aware of; how would it save them money?
the 2nd point is that MS can spend a he11uva lot more than Nintendo can on advertising...Obviously they can by the sheer amount of liquid resources at their disposal (MS has $32 billion; Nintendo has $8 billion in the bank) - but that is not what your first post said. You said Nintendo needed advertising.
3rd point: if they work together they can pool their funds and resources...DUH... this will equal a better system than working alone, also the GC is superior to PS2, and the XB far superior... (and i hate xbox, i own ps2 and gc just so you know); fair enough.

Microsoft has online network completely in place, something Nintendo needs - yet to be determined; right now, surel, but what about during the GameCube 2 era ??? We don't know what Nintendo has up their sleaves.
Microsoft has tons of money for advertising, something Nintendo needs to do..., Nintendo is spending MILLIONS this season on their Who Are you program...and it seems to be working.
Microsoft can help Nintendo come out with a console that would be far superior to - based on what?? A 4 year old PC that is the size of a 1983 VCR?
PS3, if both Microsoft and Nintendo pooled their funds together to create it...
Microsoft gets all the adult/advanced/PC games like Doom 3, Fable, Halo 2, and Ninja Gaiden

if they worked together, Sony would have a rival like Sega was to Nintendo in the Genesis era; judging by Sega now, that was clearly important.....

Sorry dude, don't see it.

Acclaim is responsible??? Probably crap.

Turok - CRAP
XXX BMX - CRAP
ANY of their sports - CRAP CRAP CRAP

Only decent game from them was Burnout.

Everything else CRAP.

Thank god they dropped supporting the GameCube...it'd be a shame to not get more CRAP.

Is that your machine? If so, return it dude. I have 4 buddies that just picked up a Cube (lucky bastards all got platinum) and none of them look like that. Also, mine doesn't look like that either....and mine was bought on launch day! So it's had a few years of controllers whiped at it
