How do you dodge the red turtle shells??? In Kart 64 you could jump them.....now they approach you, you can see them....UHHHHHH, it's like impending death. HELP!

Another great was is to use a slide boost right before its gonna hit you.  Its very very nifty how it works, definately intentional.

do what bill said, only wait for the warning arrow to appear behind you.  you'll have a much better chance of hitting it.

Try not to turn after the drop or the item will miss the shell.

Occasionally you can dodge a shell without a boost.  IF you time it perfectly you can turn around the shell.  The boost helps of course though.  The technique only works if the sheel is coming at you from the side.
