General Gaming / I loves me my 360
« on: May 28, 2008, 02:40:37 PM »
So a week and a half ago I did it, I took the plunge, bought a nice new HD TV (32" samsung, *glee*) and bought a 360.

I never thought I would say this but, the 360 is freaking awesome. I even realize I like *gasp* halo 3. My first 4 games are dead rising, halo 3, gta IV and gears of war. All are fun in their own way and Xbox live just makes everything that much more awesome.

I wish Nintendo would have just copied microsoft in this regard.

The marketplace is really what is holding my interest though, Ikaruga on DC was one of my favorite games and I am so happy to be able to play it without having to hook up my broken down DC (well the system is fine but the controllers, not so much).

Pacman CE has me glued to my Xbox longer than any game on the Wii has and going through each game to unlock achievements is strangely addicting.

It's weird how I look forward to just coming home to beat a high score just to see myself move up on a ladderboard and so I could show off to my Live buddies . . . it makes me happy to enjoy gaming again.

All in all I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I hope to see some of you on Live one of these days ;)

Nintendo Gaming / Brawl vs Melee, which did you enjoy more and why?
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:21:44 PM »
As to not derail another thread I want to hear your opinions on which game you enjoy more and why.

I'm going to start by saying so far, Melee was far more fun for me. I found myself playing it every waking minute when it was first released and that enjoyment of playing lasted long after I had fully cleared the game.

For some reason, I don't get that joy from Brawl. I don't care about the stickers or trophies this time around. I just wanted to get all the unlockable characters and stages and be done with it just so I could use them all in multiplayer modes.

The fighting isn't as fun either for some reason. Maybe it's the slower speed or maybe it's the more "floaty" feel to the game but I can't get into the game like I get into Melee.

The items too don't stand out as much as they used to in Melee (minus the final smash orb). Too many items just seem to get "lost" in the stage design and many of them are so small they are hard to decipher when in a multiplayer match.

The online play is disappointing at best and really makes me wish Nintendo would have copied Microsoft with it's online structure.

If anything killed this title for me it was the delays. I just don't get that feeling of "Ohhhh this is why they needed the extra time" with this title.

The stages are the only aspect of the game that I say are (overall) better than Melee.

The roster also leaves a lot to be desired and all this extra time going into the game doesn't seem to have been well spent in terms of making unique characters.

I guess in the end it's hard for a game like Brawl to live up to the hype but that still doesn't make up for the fact that Melee felt more enjoyable of an experience.

Your thoughts?

General Chat / Lol new forum (a re-post of my hi message)
« on: February 14, 2008, 03:42:41 AM »
I love the fact that the same day I decide to post and see what's up everything gets shut down later in the day and I never got to see any of the replies . . .

 ::)

So, in short, hi what's been going on. (too damned lazy to type out whatever I had >.>)

General Chat / It's been a while
« on: February 10, 2008, 06:31:54 AM »
Well, it's been forever and a day since my last actual post (or at least it feels like it) so I figured I would drop on by and say hi to everyone =).

The forums still seem as lively as ever though truth be told I haven't been keeping up with it, so tell me what's been going on? Has Kairon taken over the world with his maniacal plot of using terrible 3rd party games as a mind control device to prompt children to feed off the flesh of their parents? Has GP finally been convinced that Brawl will not suck? Has ThatGuy proven to us all that he is, indeed, THAT Guy?

As for me, well, most of my time has been dedicated to my job. I don't even have time to play video games anymore but, and I never really thought I would say this, I don't miss them.

My job at Apple is really fun and I've been dedicating a lot of my time to studying to become a Mac Genius (their tech guys) which should be happening in the next month or so. I will say this much though, while I haven't been playing many games I am still super psyched for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I am making sure everyone in our store is as well haha. I already have people asking me to "train" them to play better, which of course always makes you feel kinda cool lol.

All in all I've just been keeping super busy and loving every minute of it but I do have to say I miss being able to post here regularly.

Oh and for old time sake I brought bake the Issac avatar haha.

General Chat / Fox makes Family Guy without Seth MacFarlane
« on: November 14, 2007, 06:56:19 AM »
"Family" feud afoot for Fox cartoon

Quote

Fox is producing fresh episodes of its animated comedy "Family Guy" without the participation of its striking creator Seth MacFarlane, who does many of the main voices, sources said.

The last episode completed before the Writers Guild of America strike began November 5 aired Sunday. Fox and sibling studio 20th Century Fox TV had the choice of going into reruns or continuing the show without MacFarlane, whose outspoken defiance of his employers has made him a cause celebre for striking writers.

After a large writers rally outside the Fox lot on Friday, where he was one of the speakers, MacFarlane said the studio could proceed without him, though he hoped it would not.

. . . . so wait . . . how the hell are they making family guy without him? Considering he is the voices for half the family (and many other characters).

Warning! Crappiest episodes ever approaching!

General Chat / Who loves their job?
« on: November 11, 2007, 04:03:58 PM »
So as some of you may now I recently got a job at one of Apple's many retail stores. I've been there for, oh, around 9 days now and I can honestly say it's been my favorite job to date. It's one of those jobs where you are actually happy to wake up in the morning and goto work (yes those job's exist apparently and I am super lucky to have found it).

It's weird, I went to school for 4 years for graphic design but now I am in love with this retail experience at Apple. I finally feel like I "belong" somewhere when it comes to a job and I just love having this feeling of "yeah I could see myself growing here".

Anyone else have a job they love? =)

Nintendo Gaming / Crazy Climbers Wii
« on: October 21, 2007, 05:09:49 AM »

Nihon Bussan announced Crazy Climber Wii for Wii, a remake of the classic arcade action game from 1980, in which you climb to the top of the building with two levers, while avoiding obstacles falling from the top.

The Wii remake will be in full 3D, you use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to climb the building. Up to 4 players can play the game simultaneously. Crazy Climber Wii will be released in Japan on December 20, for 6090 yen.

Look at these beautiful screenshots!

Now . . . I'm sorry but you would think a game that is based around being on a wall 99% of the time would have some decent textures or something. For christ sake this is probably the laziest game ever developed for wii.

Yes, even lazier than Crusin'.

General Gaming / PSP Star Wars Commerical
« on: October 17, 2007, 05:30:45 PM »
Does anyone else want to just punch the guy in the face commenting on the game? I know I do.

I only bring this up because the commercial plays like ever commercial break on every channel and it just drives me nuts.

Sony heres a hint about marketing. If your commercials show an annoying stalker following you around because you bought a PSP and then annoys you to death about it, it won't lead to sales.

Wii Music news is always good news to me and this comes straight from The-Magicbox.com:

Nintendo's Wii Music, a new music game in which you use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as various music instruments and perform different kinds of music. There will be over 40 types of instruments to choose from, up to 6 players can play the game simultaneously. Operation is simple, you follow the music notes on screen and press the appropriate buttons or move the controller at the right time.

6 players seems like it could be a lot of fun =D

Nintendo Gaming / Wii in the Classroom

Nintendo’s Wii has found a variety of unique applications since its launch, including physical therapy, weight loss, and entertainment for senior citizens at retirement homes. Now one teacher in Indiana believes Wii has a home in the classroom. David Brantley, a first-grade teacher at Cumberland Elementary in West Lafayette, IN, has a Wii hooked up to a projector in his class, which he uses primarily for lessons on weather and geography via the Wii Forecast Channel. Kids in the class, for example, identify continents on the map by spinning the Forecast Channel globe and then pointing the location using the Wii Remote.

Nintendo Gaming / Oblivion Engine Optimized, Ported to Wii
« on: September 13, 2007, 03:31:41 PM »
Source: Nintendojo.com

Quote

A Wii version of the Gamebryo engine -- the same engine that powers Xbox 360's Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion -- joins the list of middleware tools available to developers of Nintendo's console.

"We are delighted to announce the Wii port of our Gamebryo engine," Emergent Game Technologies CEO Geoffrey Selzer said in a press release. Emergent is the developer of Gamebryo. "With the success of Nintendo's Wii console catching much of the industry off guard and offering fresh interactive features, developers need new tools to be able to develop for multiple platforms that offer vastly different capabilities and require different programming techniques."

While the port of Gamebryo won't get Wii games to as look quite as pretty as Oblivion given the different tech specs between Nintendo's console and Xbox 360, the middleware will allow developers to utilize development features that standard Wii development kits don't always include.

There is no word yet as to what the first Gamebryo-powered Wii title will be. More as it becomes available.

=) More development tools are always a good thing.

Edit: Link fixed.

General Chat / Shoot 'em Up
« on: September 09, 2007, 07:51:42 AM »
So . . . after the terrible "Balls of Fury" movie, my friends and I were in search of a film that would hopefully end the summer on a good note.

Shoot 'em Up was chosen . . . but was it worth the price of admission?

If you're looking for a deep, story driven movie, Shoot 'em up is not for you.

If you're looking for a kick ass, non-stop action packed movie that never has any boring moments, Shoot 'em Up will not let you down.

Pure action to the max with crazy, non-sensical scenes that just, well, work for the film. It's probably the best pure action movie I have seen to date and it actually somehow works in a story plot without letting up on the action. In fact, even when there is a sex scene, there is STILL action going on, the killing kind of action, if you see the film you will understand lol.

All in all it was a really fun movie to just go and see. Clive Owen does another fantastic job of playing the good bad ass while Paul Giamatti makes a surprisingly good villain.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for an hour and a half of kick ass action.

Maguire, WB attack the big screen with 'Robotech'

Quote

After slipping on a mask for Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire might be slipping into a giant robot for "Robotech."

After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to bring anime classic "Robotech," which featured giant robots known as mechas, to the big screen. Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment banner and is eyeing the lead role in what the studio plans on being a tentpole sci-fi franchise.

Have the original theme and I'm there . . .

General Chat / A classy business move from Apple
« on: September 06, 2007, 02:15:16 PM »
So there were some not too happy iPhone customers yesterday. Why? Because of the 200 dollar price drop on the iPhone.

Apple listened though and it saw it's angry customers. And while they could have easily done nothing . . . they did the following:

An Open Letter To iPhone Customers

$100 store credit is pretty damned nice I must say. Kudos Apple for responding to criticism in a classy way.

Don't see Balls of Fury. Just don't.

Talk about disappointing, it wasn't funny . . . just plain wasn't funny. There were 2 haha moments but that was it. Overall it was just a very poor film.

I wouldn't recommend seeing it to anyone.

Not to be outdone by Sega's Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Midway has some screens of their upcoming game "Cruis'n" for the Wii:

Mmm so beautiful

I checked the NWR main page for this and didn't see it so <3

Edit: I would be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt of maybe looking better when it's released but it's release date of Nov. 2007 makes me believe this is a near finished product X_X.

Do they even try anymore?
