General Gaming / Most Embarrassing Gaming Moments
« on: July 13, 2007, 12:56:51 PM »
I'm sure all of us have some embarrassing  gaming moments, so lets hear em!

For me it would have to be a single moment in A Link to the Past on SNES. I had gotten the game and got to the point where you see Agahnim teleport Zelda to the dark work.

Afterwards Agahnim shifts backwards behind a curtain where the fight ensues. However, as a kid (and I don't know why to this day) I thought he flew UP not backwards.

So I spent a very....very...very long time searching Hyrle for Agahnim. Fed up I gave up on the game. It wasn't until a year later that my best friend played the game and swiped the curtain to reveal the door to fight Agahnim. My jaw dropped and I felt really stupid as I had never even tried to slash away at curtains.

But hey on the plus side I finally got to finish the game and it became my favorite Zelda =)

Sales of Nintendo's quirky Wii video game machine could top the legendary PlayStation 2, making it the biggest hit in the industry's history, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said on Thursday.

Quote

"Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved," Iwata said.

"But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that," he told Reuters.

Quote

Iwata also said the hardware side of its Wii game console business has already turned profitable.

It is not uncommon for a game maker to sustain prolonged losses in its hardware business while making money from software sales.

Miyamoto: We Haven't Seen the Last of Pikmin

Quote

"I certainly don't think we've seen the last of Pikmin," he said. "I definitely would like to do something with them, and I think the Wii interface in particular is very well suited to that franchise." - Miyamoto

Animal Crossing Update
Hopefully we'll be able to show you something before too long, says Miyamoto.

Quote

The Animal Crossing team has been very busy working on a variety of different projects. Actually, the Mii Channel was put together by the director of the most recent Animal Crossing game. His name is Mr. Nogami. Recently he said he really wants to get back to work on Animal Crossing again, so hopefully we'll be able to show something to people before too long."

Miyamoto on 1:1 Sword Fighting Game

Quote

"We haven't announced anything, so I can't speak about any particulars, but we do have a lot of ideas about how we could potentially use the Wii remote for something like that."

Aonuma and Miyamoto on Next Wii Zelda
Some ideas are being thrown around, but don't expect a sequel anytime soon.

Quote

Shigeru Miyamoto elaborated on the likelihood of another Wii Zelda. "It's really hard to say because we've never had a Zelda that's appeared so early in the life cycle of the system, so it's definitely possible that there would be another Zelda on Wii," he said. "Of course, the challenge is that typically a Zelda game is something that takes three years to develop, so we'll just have to wait and see."

General Gaming / 1UP reviews the conferences . . .

Wow talk about blatant Nintendo bashing.

At around 11 minutes in when the girl says "I think MS is really bridging the gap between casual gamers and hardcore moreso than any other system" I nearly lost it. Thankfully the guy next to her said "Uh are you kidding me? More than Nintendo?" and then she replies "Yeah I mean Xbox has pac man".

PAC MAN!? Are you freaking kidding me!? You bash WiiFit and then say MS is leading the way with bridging the hardcore gamer and casual gamer gap with PAC MAN!? *head explodes*

The girl was clearly a MS fanatic so I guess I shouldn't have expected anything different. She almost killed her co-host person guy when he said the Halo 3 trailer didn't look that good.

Also they made fun of Nintendo for not having a lot of applause for the Smash Bros announcement of its release date. Hey how about how MS had no freaking applause for it's two new crappy Xbox models? How about the fact that the Halo 3 trailer received little to no applause? Yeah exactly. Very balanced reporting there guys and single insane MS fangirl.

So the moral of the story is: Don't be surprised if 1UP doesn't put out a lot of good Nintendo stories.

So now that E3's main press conference for Nintendo is over, outside of Mario Kart which was announced for first quarter 2008, what do you expect from Nintendo in the future?

We got many of the big franchise games covered for this gen:

- The Mario Platform Title
- The Mairio Kart
- The Smash Bros.
- The Metroid
- The Zelda (though TP was technically made for cube so that's debatable)

and so on...

Anyway the point is, by March we will have all the heavy hitting franchises Nintendo is known for.

What other titles do you think Nintendo will put out after this stream of current games?

Sony just revealed it's new PSP which has a better battery and is lighter. Pretty much looks the same. It has the ability to output high quality video to a television set.

/thoughts?

Wow sony is really stretching with this! They have CHEWIE yes Chewbacca from Star Wars himself is on the stage showing the PSP Star Wars thing.

On a random side note the Sony presenter has stated like 10 times how nervous he is being up there presenting, yesh.

General Gaming / Official 'I'm Watching G4 E3 live" Thread
« on: July 10, 2007, 03:12:11 PM »
I have to say the pre-show is...interesting. Adam Sessler and whomever his co-host guy is (I haven't seen Mogran Webb yet) are dressed in suits and discussing what's coming up and talking about previous E3's and what microsofts previous E3 showings had to offer.

It's got a somewhat "classy" feel to it so far and very professional. At least for this segment haha.

So is anyone else watching?

Update: DO NOT WATCH THE NINTENDO CONFERENCE VIA G4 Later today. Watch it on a web site or something, the commercials cut into what were many of the 'best' parts of the MS conference.

Guys . . . Nintendo is in big trouble

http://gear.ign.com/articles/802/802866p1.html

Haha just playing.

It has to do with a messaging service they are adding to Xbox live. It seems to be an add-on for the controller and comes with a headset for $29.99. The keyboard lites up so it's easy to see at night which is pretty cool.

This set up reminds me of a really old atari controller for some reason but I can't think of which one.

"I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100," Kazumi Kitaue, the head of Konami's North American and European operations, told Reuters in an interview ahead of this week's E3 video game industry trade show.

"I don't expect a substantial impact ... With $500, you can buy a personal computer."

Quote

Kitaue said Konami may need to expand the target hardware for its blockbuster fighting game Metal Gear Solid, which has so far been developed for Sony's PlayStation machines, to other consoles in the future to recoup development costs.

"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," Kitaue said.

I don't know why they call it a blockbuster "fighting" game but yeah you get the idea.

Doesn't look good for Sony if companies don't think they can make back the development costs of the game from just selling on the PS3.

From Sega, looks pretty decent.

According to various sources Famitsu has relayed information that the PS3 version of Beautiful Katamari is indeed canceled.

The news first came about as Bandai Namco announced their E3 roster of games, showing BK as only to appear on Xbox 360.

In response to a Wii version of the game, they say it is indeed in the works. Although according to the Game Director players should not "expect that anytime soon" as they need to rework the game to work with Wii's unique control system.

General Gaming / Rumor: Sega Sammy says PS3 price drop likely
« on: July 04, 2007, 09:34:00 PM »
From The Magic Box:

"Sega Sammy's corporate director Masanao Maeda mentioned that Sony is likely to have a price drop for PS3 before the end of the year to increase demand of its flagship console."

It would make sense seeing as PS3 isn't performing as well as Sony had hoped but I wonder if they can afford it. Aren't they already losing tons of money per system sold due to the manufacturing costs?
