Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS Amiibo details.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the first game compatible with Amiibo figures.* When a player uses an Amiibo in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the figure will appear as a computer player in the game. Players can then fight alongside the Amiibo, against them, or pit different Amiibo figures against one another. Amiibo characters will have an FP (Figure Player) icon above them during in-game combat.
Amiibo figures level up after fighting and will increase their stats by doing so. Amiibo characters can learn their own tactics and players will also be able to customize their Amiibo's in-game special moves to their liking. Amiibo characters will level up fastest when facing off against one another and can also level up by consuming unwanted in game equipment. The level cap for Amiibo characters is level 50 which is far beyond that of a standard, non-Amiibo controlled CPU found in the game which caps at level 9.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS gained Amiibo support after an update in Feb. 2015. Figures are able to interact with Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS systems by using a separate Amiibo reader that will be released in 2015. The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems will have an NFC reader built into the hardware.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will require the user to save data on their Amiibo figures. So if there is already data on that Amiibo for another game, it will be erased.

Mario Kart 8 also received an update for Amiibo support before Amiibo and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U were available in stores. However, review copies of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Amiibo figures were sent out prior to these updates making Super Smash Bros. for Wii U the first game compatible with Amiibo.
