I sit down and compile a list of my Wii backlog for the first time and immediately spot at least three JRPGs. I'm doomed.
Current Backlog Size: 49 Wii games
Goal: Play (but not necessarily beat) them all by the Wii U launch
Progress Since Last Update: N/A
Okay. Here goes. I've decided that my goal will be to completely clear out my backlog of Wii retail games (No Virtual Console, no WiiWare) before the Wii U comes out sometime this fall. That means I need to take the first step of compiling a list of exactly what I'm up against.

- Zumba Fitness 2
Goodness grief! I count maybe four fitness/dance games on there, and at least three JRPGs! I count two game with the words "Call of Duty" in the title, two with the words "Final Fantasy", and two with the word "Sonic." I see some relatively older games, like Tenchu, Wario Land: Shake It!, Zoo Hospital, and Major Minor's Majestic March. I see one out-of-date hockey game. I also see one particularly intimidating newer release, XenoBlade, which I've heard people spending upwards of 100 hours playing. That's just... not good news.
Ugh. That reminds me, I intend to buy The Last Story when it comes out later this summer. That'd bring me up to 50 games, even... and it's another JRPG to boot!
Thank god I don't intend to "beat" all of these games. Don't get me wrong, if I'm having fun with the game and am physically able to beat it, I'll play it through to completion. There's no point in "cheating" my way through the backlog just to pick up the game secretly afterwards, that'd be like losing water weight in a diet only to gain it all back after I stop keeping track. The idea here is to clear out my past obligations and be able to go forward without looking back. However, if I play a game for an hour or three and then lose interest then that's enough for me to scratch the title off of the list.
I guess it's also a good thing I'm not lumping in any Virtual Console, WiiWare, DS, and 3DS games into my goal as well. (Incidentally, I believe I'm actually pretty up-to-date when it comes to DS and 3DS gaming.) These 49 Wii games currently listed are going to be a challenge in and of themselves. I'll need every advantage I can get if I want to clear that daunting list of game before November, which is when I assume the Wii U launches.
*sigh* This is the first time in my life I'm actually thinking I'd be helped by a Nintendo console coming out even later than anticipated.
