Josh gets a little greedy and wants to collect them all.
With news of the Handheld Virtual Console sweeping the internet, I’m sure everyone has been making a list of games in their heads that they would like to see on the service. I have composed a list that stretches across the cosmos, but for time’s sake I will only mention two games that I want to see come back. I picked them because, as a child, I loved playing these games over and over again; even after collecting every item and 100%, I’d just restart them. These games are Wario Land 3 and Pokémon Trading Card Game, both for Game Boy Color.
Wario Land 3 is one of my favorite platformers on the GBC. With over 20 fantastic puzzle levels and 10 different Wario transformations, your eyeballs may just high five your face as a result of the experience. The game is set inside of a magic music box that Wario finds after his plane crashes. A disembodied voice tells Wario that he is trapped in the music box, and that he must collect music boxes to set himself free. For his troubles, Wario can keep any other treasures he finds.
Wario is indestructible, but must alter his body to solve puzzles and collect the treasures scattered around the world. For instance, some blocks can only be destroyed by fire, and the only way to carry a fire is to set Wario ablaze so that he runs across the screen until he cools off. You can also have solve puzzles by gaining weight; that’s right, getting fat is the answer for once in our lives. Wario puts himself through so many transformations I’m honestly surprised he doesn’t just explode at the end (spoiler: Wario doesn’t explode at the end).

When it comes to Pokemon, we all know that everyone wants to catch 'em all. We know that some people will EV train until the wee hours of the morning to get that perfect brawler. But how many people out there wants to collect them all in trading card form? Pokémon Trading Card Game is the title that puts you on an island dominated by people obsessed with becoming the best Pokémon Trading Card Game player out there.

On an island, you must collect all the cards from the first three sets of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. With these cards you must defeat each gym leader around the island, enter the occasional tournament, and beat your ass-of-a-rival. The game is pretty fun, making you create new decks designed specifically for some opponents, as well as making you use your decks without any knowledge of other opponents. It is essentially a super-condensed version of the first wave of Pokémon games with less puzzle solving. It’s still a ton of fun and the main character doesn’t explode at the end of the game…just saying.
I honestly don’t know how likely it is that Pokémon Trading Card Game will be released on VC. I think that it has a decent shot of being updated down the road and being released, but I know there are others like me who love the game to death and would love to see it on the service. As for Wario Land 3, I’d actually say the chances of it seeing VC are very good. It’s a great game and was well-received when it first poked its pudgy nose out.
