Upcoming Wii Games to Look Forward To

Sonic Colors / NBA Jam

by Matthew Blundon - June 24, 2010, 3:11 pm EDT

With so many great Wii games coming in the next year, it will be hard to find time to play them all!

Sonic Colors

Publisher: Sega

Developer: Sonic Team

Genre: Platformer

Release Date: Holiday 2010

Despite the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (being presented as Sonic’s return to form), Sega announced another game to be released alongside the downloadable title. Sonic Colors (the sequel to 2008’s Sonic Unleashed) takes Sonic into outer space as he travels into outer spaces and tries to stop Dr. Eggman’s evil theme park. His master plan this time around is to use an alien race called the Wisps to fuel his creations.

Gameplay is inspired by the daytime stages in Sonic Unleashed. Despite Tails being seen in the teaser trailers Sonic is the only playable character in the game. Sonic will run around the stage, avoid obstacles and reach the finish line using his super speed. New to the formula, however, are the Wisps themselves. Sonic can use them to launch new attacks and skills, such as lighting speed and a new drill attack that lets Sonic explore under the stages and discover rings. Stages will feature two modes of play: 2D and 3D. Like in Sonic Unleashed, the perspective will change during gameplay, giving players different views of the same stage.

NBA Jam

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Developer: Electronic Arts Canada

Genre: Sports

Release Date: Fall 2010

The underlying theme throughout EA's new take on NBA Jam is to keep it like the original. Featuring graphics inspired by the '90s game, the same announcer from the original game, and the same rock-solid gameplay, it looks like EA Canada is living up to the original's high quality.

For those not in the know, NBA Jam is focused on 2-on-2 basketball rife with slam dunks, spectacular plays, and comedic commentary. The new Wii version features multiple control schemes, including Wii Remote and Nunchuk and Classic Controller, and it should be noted that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls are actually really good.

In addition to the classic mode that begins with a team of two playing against every other team in the NBA, there will be a new remix mode that will feature power-ups and a more structured season mode. We're still waiting for clarification on how exactly the mode will work.
