Extra Life #2: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Pre-Game

The second Extra Life looks at Climax Studios' acclaimed Silent Hill Wii game.

When it was first announced, I didn't care about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, the Wii reimagining of the original Silent Hill. I remember hearing good things about the series, but I know it kind of fell by the wayside over time, and a Wii version that was also hitting PlayStation 2 and PSP didn't seem promising to me. At E3 2009, Zach Miller and Chessa DiMola had great things to say about it. I ignored it because, well, I never cared for Silent Hill. It garnered many E3 awards, and I ignored it.

My interest in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories emerged around the game's December 2009 release. Andy Goergen, the man who reviewed it, expressed his interest during an episode of NWR Newscast (Bi-weekly on weekends! Suscribe on iTunes!), and I decided to inquire about doing a feature on the game. We wound up with this interview with Tomm Hulett, associate producer at Konami. Hulett's enthusiasm rubbed off on me, and he gave some pretty awesome answers to our questions that sold me on the quality of the game. Throw in the fact that Climax Studios, the developers behind Overlord: Dark Legend, which I rather enjoyed, created it, and I was looking forward to a game that I previously had no interest in.

And now we're here. I've got the game, and I'm ready to dive into a series I completely missed. It's fitting that it's a reimagining of the first game in the series.
