E3 2001: The Moment to Shine

The Introduction

by the NWR Staff - May 11, 2001, 7:22 pm EDT

Do you have P.E.S. ?

P.E.S.

It’s kind of funny being in the position our staff is at. We’ve been sitting here, drooling over a few specs, a demo, and some pics and movies of the Prototype of what we now know as GameCube. Nintendo didn’t even have to have GameCube playable at Space World and the world of Nintendo raved and exploded. Now we’ll finally get our hands on the meat of the system. We’ll know most of what Nintendo has been hiding while we’ve all been counting the days until this moment of truth. GameCube fully revealed to the world. Finally!

It’s funny, but there’s a name for this time that we’re in. I’ll call it P.E.S. Pre-E3 Syndrome. People get angry…stressed out…nervous…restless. It’s insane. Not just Developers, or people “in the industry”, but it’s gamers, fans, video game sites, you name it. People across the board are tense now…and right fully so. The video game equivalent of World War III is about to hit. And Folks, it’s going to be a wonderful and most righteous battle.

The Gloves come off

I personally believe Nintendo is going to clean up at this years E3. Granted, I’m the Director and Founder of this site, so it could be said that I am, uh, cough, biased. Trust me, that’s really not the case. Overall I’m just a huge crazed gamer. No matter what the platform, if a game is good, I’ll get it. Hell yeah I’m going to be in the X-Box, Sony, Sega, and PC Games booths as well. I think there’s around 75-100 games I’d like to play total while I’m there. But over all, from what I know and/or predict is going to be at this show…Nintendo has a chance to steal the crown back from the competition, and be returned to it’s most rightful owner. Nintendo.

Ding Ding?

As I write this, it’s still unknown what Nintendo could show GameCube wise, but Game Boy Advance is already poised for attack. Over 1.5 million units have been sold in Japan, and the rest of the world waits for a few more weeks to get their hands on the new portable dream machine. GameCube contention is rather vague, but if all goes as Nintendo has planned, GameCube should be the knock out punch that Nintendo needs to take out both Microsoft and Sony.

GameCube on paper is impressive. All we have in our hands are specs, prototype pictures, a single sound demonstration, and a couple of screen shots and movies. Shiggy and the boys at the big N have been cookin’ up some serious gaming love. You know it. Sony knows it. Billy Gates knows it. The battle will unfold on the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
