Now they're one of the largest shareholders, but don't expect to see a buyout anytime soon.
Update: More information has surfaced about the deal. Apparently, Nintendo had got a pretty sizeable chunk of their newly acquired shares from Mattel, the toy company. Mattel had an agreement with Bandai in 1999, which was to end at the end of this year. As a result of this, Mattel decided to dump some Bandai stock, and Nintendo wound up nabbing it from them.

The creators of the Pokemon trading card game are suing Nintendo of America and Pokemon USA.
According to a weekend article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Wizards of the Coast has filed a suit against Nintendo of America, Pokemon USA, The Pokemon Company, and two executives. Wizards created the Pokemon trading card game and oversaw the product for years until Pokemon USA recently absorbed those operations. Wizards of the Coast produces several other card games, including Magic: The Gathering.

No, you don't need to unwrap thousands of Wonka Bars to get one.
Nintendo loves to mock those who have bought their products early by coming out with new colors after most of the people have settled with one. This time, if one of the dozen or so of available GBA SP colors haven't caught your eye as of yet (Cobalt, Platinum, Flame, Onyx, Famicom, Pearl Pink and Blue, Gundam Red...), Nintendo figures this latest Japanese shade will be impossible to overlook.

Nintendo issues an early morning release touting the success of the GameCube at $99.
Nintendo sent out a media alert early this morning announcing that GameCube has become the top-selling console in America since it's drop to $99.99 on Sept. 25.
Sales data from major retailers documenting sales for the week ending Oct. 4 shows GameCube outselling Xbox by 145%, and PS2 by 20%.

The strategy-RPG from LucasArts is complete and headed for manufacturing.
LucasArts announced today that Gladius, their gladiator-themed strategy-RPG for all three consoles, has completed development and is now being printed to disc for retail. The game was originally scheduled for release in spring 2003, but it was delayed several times. The current release date is October 28th.

Finally, word of the official new price in Japan.
According to Nintendo's Japanese site, the GameCube will be dropping in price there soon as well.
On October 17, the GameCube will be selling for 14,000 Yen (about $120 US). The Enjoyment Plus Pack which includes a Game Boy Player and Memory Card 251 will be reduced a little sooner on October 10th for a price of 19,800 Yen (about $170 US).

Mario isn’t the only thing in red right now.
Nintendo has projected a net loss for the first time in its publicly-owned history. Earlier today, Nintendo regrettably informed its investors that instead of the 15 billion yen profit predicted earlier for the fiscal half-year, the company expects to suffer a loss of 3.0 billion yen (around $27 million). Nintendo is currently 7 million yen into the red.
