Oh look, another wildly popular and successful videogame brand is about to be horribly ruined by Hollywood!

Anthem Pictures (a Sony Pictures unit) and producer Warren Zide have acquired the rights to create a feature film based on Namco's Soul Calibur game franchise. Zide will be producing the film along with Craig Perry, reuniting the team that brought the American Pie and Final Destination movies to theaters.

Soul Calibur, of course, is the crown jewel of 3D weapon-based fighting games, and its sequel, Soul Calibur II, is currently available on the GameCube.

Nothing's going to happen. These are the same guys who licensed Metroid, and didn't do anything with it.

Oh dear. When will Hollywood learn?

"I just want to see who they cast for Ivy and Taki."
Haha...so do I! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Please god do not let them make the movie, as much as i am a fan of soul calibur I would seriously not want the guys who brought us American Pie and Final Destination to make this game. I bet if Mel Gibson could direct this movie it would be Heaven, lol. I hope i didnt affend any jews. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Hey--maybe they're buying the rights out of respect towards gamers, so that nobody can make a crappy movie and shame beloved videogame franchises!

Haha, that would be nice wouldn't it? face-icon-small-wink.gif

Greetings to: Lord Huk (Raph, Kilik, Maxi MASTER) and Enré (Mitsu JOURNEYMAN) from KingM3 (Cervy, Voldo MASTER).

Cervy is the best, so he should be played by Arnie and get it on with _all_ the ladiez.
Raph is obviously camp, he should have a steamy scene with Mitsu (and maybe Kilik and some cats). Somewhere in the middle Mitsu should shout out 'bring out the gimp' whereupon Voldo should emerge in his royals. Then maybe Astaroth could join in.

It couldn't be said any better.

KDR_11kMarch 05, 2004

Hm, I guess they could use the ingame models with minor modifications to make a rendered movie...

RABicleMarch 05, 2004

I will watch this just to support gaming movies, not because it will be any good.

darknight06March 07, 2004

The movie could turn out to be good. The first Mortal Kombat movie was actually pretty good. The second one sucked hairy dog ass, though.

Fluke WormMarch 20, 2004

To be honest I didn't mind the first one either, but yea the second one sucked more hairy dog ass than Michael Jackson during his college years.
