You'd think Kytim89 would've been able to over take him by down. His posts are pretty terrible. Then again, I guess most of us have just learned to ignore his posts altogether.

Wouldn't 1024 technically be a kilosmite?

In the same way the calories we use on food labels are technically kilocalories, the smites we have n the site are technically megasmites, so this is indeed a gigasmite.

I publicly declare all my smites as I make them and I confess to having smote TJ a single digit number of time of some of his idiot posts. It's one thing is disagree, it's another thing being stupid about it by swinging Fox News talking points like a dead fish expecting people not to call BS on it.

Outside of that, I am sure people have been smitting him for shits and giggles.

Tendoboy1984 is catching up quick as he is easily the worse poster on these forums. Even after spelling it out a couple of times to him, he still doesn't get it. Although I have no idea who the hell is keeps leveling out his overall score.

To be honest, I've probably only smited him once or twice. I did actually applaud him once for his CM Punk avatar, but then smited him for sticking up for SONY.

Fox News talking points

Not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying I have ever repeated some of the stuff Fox News says? Without getting into specifics (so I don't get in trouble), let me say that my political views are pretty much the complete opposite of Fox News.

It doesn't matter what I say or do here.  I make a postitive or neutral post, I get smite-d.  I make a skeptical or negative post, I get smite-d and have my Nintendo gaming questioned.  People here have a problem with me no matter what I do, and it gets tiring.  So **** 'em and their fanboy-ism.  Some days, I feel that if it wasn't for Radio Free Nintendo every week, I probably wouldn't visit these forums anymore.

I learned early on not to care, I find I get praised and i have no clue why and and get smited and am just as clueless as to why. Then there are posts where I'm sure I would get smote or praised and nothing happens. People's reason's for smiting and praising are just as arbitrary as the score itself. Just stop worrying about it and just say what you want to say.

Broodwars, don't listen to Super.  It has absolutly nothing to do with the quality of your posts or your additude.

No, I think it has everything to do with me being one of the people here who doesn't spend their time kissing Nintendo's ass all day.  And you know what?  It doesn't matter what I say or do here.  I make a postitive or neutral post, I get smite-d.  I make a skeptical or negative post, I get smite-d and have my Nintendo gaming questioned.  People here have a problem with me no matter what I do, and it gets tiring.  So **** 'em and their fanboy-ism.  Some days, I feel that if it wasn't for Radio Free Nintendo every week, I probably wouldn't visit these forums anymore.

I would hate to see you leave over a trivial thing like smites. I'm getting smited all the time, and apparently so is TJ Spyke so you aren't alone. Just don't worry about... as Ymeegod pointed out its probably the same asshole responsible for 90% of them, so its not like the entire site is out to get you. Just one person....

It's not just the smiting thing, but it just feels sometimes that I put a great deal of time into trying to enrich the experience here and be a good (if critical) poster, and I get so much **** for it (like the stupid custom titles placed under your name to mock you).  It's like how I'll put several hours into something like my Reader Reviews or research for things like the Press Conference threads each year, and then I'll come back a few hours later and my smite count has jumped 10 points.  I just see that numerical representation of the site's dislike increase, and I have to start asking why I even bother coming here if apparently I'm not wanted.  So yeah, it's a "meaningless number", but it's still disheartening to see skyrocket when I generally prefer to stay out of people's way on this site.

If someone has a serious problem with me, I'd rather they just talked with me directly instead of hiding behind the rating system.  If NinSage and I can work out our differences, I don't see why they would be any different.  Because as much as I may have my issues with Nintendo, I'm generally neutral-to-fond of most of the posters on this site and I enjoy the lively (and occasionally heated) discussions here.

My advice is to do what I've done and instead of being upset by it or even indifferent to it, take pride in it. Because it means you've either succeeded in pissing off some asshole, or you've managed to earn the obsession of some smite-stalking loser with no life. Either way its something to take pride in.

And the same I think goes for when the mods alter your title. It means you stand out in some way. There's a lot of generic members with no custom titles because nothing they've said has ever stood out. So being a part of the offensive title club is something not everyone gets to be. Take pride in it!

While I encourage not taking it seriously, being proud of smites is probably taking it a bit far. There's a fine line between being controversial and saying things people don't want to hear, which is fine in moderation, and being obnoxious and annoying, which is not okay. They both get you smites, the latter for better and more legitimate reasons. If you're getting smited a lot, you may want to rethink how you approach these forums.

That's a nice theory, but the problem is as Broodwars pointed out is that he is getting smited regardless of what he says, and TJ Spyke said he was getting smited 20 times during a time he wasn't even on the board or posting. So when you are faced with a no-win situation where you are getting smited even when you aren't even here, what can you do?

I don't know who is doing all these smitings, but whoever it is apparently doesn't care about the content of the post. They are directly attacking the person behind it. What can you do when anything you say gets a smite regardless of what it is? There's nothing you really can do, so you have to learn to accept it.

Another option would be, as I've proposed in the past, just get rid of the whole thing entirely. If you are sick of hearing people whining about it, just get rid of it for good and then the whining will end permanently.

Or at the very least limit applause or smiting to once per post.  Sure, that wouldn't do me much good since I make so many posts anyway, but it might help curtail things like TJ Spyke noted with being smited while away from the forums for a lengthy period of time.

There are a lot of ways the applaud/smiting system could be improved. Maybe make it so that when you smite someone it uses up one of your own applaud points? That way it would be like a currency thing and it would limit smites because the applauds would be finite. Like for example, with my +26 score I would only be able to pull off 26 smites, so I would be forced to be selective in how I did it.

Making it into a currency sort of system would not only make it more fair, but also a bit more fun as well. Kinda like an RPG or something.

I actually like this idea a lot. It would be pretty interesting to see how it played out. I don't know if it would work with the system we have, though.

Paying smites with applauds won't work as it would break the value system. Right now it is pretty straight forward, 1 applaud "offsets" 1 smite and vis versa. Under the new system the value of a smite would be worthless rendering the applaud used worthless as applauding would still be "Free". It would devolve into a "Like" system where nearly nobody smites as it would render the hard to earn applauds worthless, so everyone just applauds or "likes". You can't have a smite pay for an applaud and vis versa as that creates a zero sum game favoring the incumbents who would hoard the now limited supply or applaud away all the smites.

The current system works because the user get to assign the value of a smite or applaud. No two users will agree what the value of a smite or an applaud maybe, but it can be universally agreed that 1 Applaud = 1 Smite. That value holds true whether the person gives a **** or not because others enforce that value.

I wouldn't worry about it too much TJ since it was at least over a year ago if not much longer. It would come up in one of those threads where you would do the whole you wouldn't steal a car false equivalency arguments and flash your corporate hardon for everybody to see no matter how inappropriate it might have been or how little sense it made. Since then you have had a sudden shift in opinion when you disappeared for a few weeks. The problem now is that you were only agreeing to whatever the mainstream opinion was without thought, hence your current title "I agree wholeheartedly with whatever the mainstream opinion is."

While you have soften, you still do appeal to authority and Just World arguments, you just hide them better. Just have a peek at the luzsec thread. I have pretty much stayed out of that thread because 1. funhaus. 2. Catdrugs.
