That's what his wind up charge looked like in Wario World 4, if I remember correctly.

Seconded. I wouldn't mind the game being a little slower than Melee, but had no problem whats so ever with the fast pace of that game.

It's quite possible, after all the animation on Samus and Snake looked amazing in the trailer in contrast, along with the returning characters.

Hehe :p .

What I meant to say was this.

Back in the day when SSB Melee was announced, I became a regular on the IGN SSB forums. In there I met a lot of regulars and great friends, and not so great friends. One of them was the moderator of the forum. He was a smart guy and all, but I HATED how he trashed Melee. It got to the point where I bashed the hell out of him in other forums and chat rooms. When IGN turned the boards Insider only, we were left without a forum to crash at. A friend recommended me an up and coming website. Turns out that the guy I hated deeply was a mod there. But as time went on, I got to know him and grew to understand his issues with the game. We then kept talking until we finally saw each other eye to eye and became good internet friends. Then in 2004 we finally met each other in real life, I met his family and met his other friends (which were also admins and mods of the website). 2 years later and we are the closest of friend. He has helped me with my own issues and I have helped him with his. His other friends also became dear friends of mine.

And AAAAAAALLL of this happened because we shared the same love toward SSB and the discussion of it brought us together.

But now I am SEVERELY derailing the thread... :p

On the speed subject; I say that SSBM is one of the finest games I've ever played. The characters are all almost perfectly balanced, the physics and gameplay is awesome, and the speed is perfect. If a player thinks the game is too fast, I think he/she needs to practice.

I say "almost perfectly" because I think Kirby is a tad on the weak side. His moves should be either more powerful or he should move faster with less recover time after moves. He's definitely not my main man, so it's possible that I'm not using him correctly. I understand he was TOO powerful in SBB so they watered him down in SSBM. I hope they finally balance out the Kirby formula in SSBB.

And lastly, is it just me or is that Fox stage at the end of the video awesome?

Kirby and Ness were both top tier in SSB: they nerfed the hell out of both of them in SSBM, probably because HAL felt self-conscious about making two of their own characters the best in the game.

As for SSBM, I'm not going to reopen that can of worms.

I'll just say that I dearly hope SSBB does in fact go online, at least for 1v1 matches.

Yeah, he mentioned that Snake could use explosives.

Link uses bombs, shoots arrows and Fox/Falco both have guns, just ray/laser guns, not the lead-projectile type.

He also said "knives" wouldn't be alright because they're too much of a realistic weapon whereas swords and the like are more fantasy weapons and thus are alright (though, owning a sword is rather easy in this day and age...).

I dunno, I guess part of me wants to see them include something in the game that's going to make me go, "SWEET! Alright, take 1, hell, 2 years if you have to!" but so far it just looks like Melee pt. 2. Which, again, is fine. I'm just not going to go nuts because there's online, because frankly, they're late.
Believe me, if a year didn't make much of a difference, Nintendo would release it as soon as possible.. Melee was the number one selling game on the GameCube. I don't mind waiting at all until next holiday; there are just so many good games coming out until then.

I'd rather see Rayman or Jayde as a hidden character, but I HIGHLY suspect Rayman.

You know what I've noticed?

Collision.

Melee brought about the first player to player collision (e.g., throwing a player at another player). Why not broaden that aspect of the game for all situations? For instance, if I smash attacked an enemy and he flies towards another foe, a collision will occur causing the other foe to take damage or dodge.

I don't know about you all, but sometimes I play vs. two level nine computers from time to time and one of the most useful tricks I have is to toss one player into the either. It adds a strategic element to the mix.

I think it could also add another layer of "realism." Real as in real physics..

Perhaps you mean Persian? The British accent is probably unconsciously based on the fact that many Middle Eastern elites were educated at Oxford in the last century, and thus had British accents. If you think about it, it makes no less sense than him speaking English at all.

I'd pay more attention to the second sentence, if it weren't for the first. Check out the tournament scene, then tell me how balanced the characters are.

Why does every A attack appear to do stunning electrical damage? Is it just somewhat different visual effect?

The Smash Bros tournaments are very flawed in how they're done.  Smash Bros is ment to be played with the items ON and on all the different stages.  Of course if a game is played on Final Destination with the items off, the characters like Marth and Fox are going to dominate.

But I'd like to see how well those Marth players would do playing on Big Blue when their opponet has a Beam Saber, now things are looking more balanced.

For the love of Mike.  Just go read the older Smash Brother Threads and umpteenth other ones from the time if you have balancing issues.

This is why you can't appeal to items to solve your problem. They level the playing field simply by obscuring fighter characteristics. For stages, yes, of course different stages will play up different characters. But there is no stage where an expert Ness beats an expert Falco. And even supposing there were, what the hell would it mean to say characters were balanced? That there existed a set of levels such that all characters' average performance against each other character on each level was equal? Does it even make sense to define character power in terms of levels? Myself, I think if this is what we have to resort to, we might as well just say that the concept of balance just doesn't apply rather than claiming the game is balanced.

Tournaments?

... they can be done either way, as long as they are consistent and agreed to before hand. As long as stages are completely random and the items are either all on or all off, then it's consistent and I can live with it.

I don't think you'll find a tournament anywhere that plays with all items on. They always take off things like the starman, the hammer, and healing items.

I've never been to a Smash Bros. Tournament that plays with the items on. Not to mention, items even the playing field greatly. When they are off, there is nothing left but the raw skill of each player. Since SSBM came out, me and all my friends stopped using items because too many matches were being won as a direct result of item use.

I agree completely. When I saw Wario, the first thing that came to mind was Warioware and the "missing frames" just really match with the art style of Warioware.

As for the release date, Ninty can take as long as they want. The more balanced the game is, the better.

Personally I prefer items on always, even if I was playing the most competitive game of my life against the king of another planet and Earth would explode if I lost. They ADD to the game! I don't care if some guy gets a hammer appearing right next to him, there's an equal chance it could happen to me. Plus if you really are good at the game you can handle ANY situation. Imagine Mario Kart without items, I bet if you could turn items off in that, some lame people would.
