You're perfectly free to refuse, for instance, to accept a jar of pennies as payment for a TV set, and while I can't possibly understand why you'd want to, you're perfectly free to refuse currency altogether if you wish.

This will piss off people like my uncle, who just had his kids trade in all their old GBA players and games for DS games and players. Basically you're paying them $50 against the system and $50-$100 just for the right to reserve (the money you loose by not selling the items yourself).

anybody can refuse pennies for any payment or purchase or whatnot as they can decide that they are in fact NOT LEGAL TENDER. Up to each store or place of business to decide whether they want to accept pennies.

Legal tender laws only apply to debts though, that's my point. Buying an item from a store is not a debt payment, it's an exchange, and thus the nature of the exchange is for the participants to decide.

I don't really understand why they're doing what they're doing, but it's not like its hard to find pre-orders ultimately. If you don't like their terms just go someplace else.

If they were offering fair prices for the games you trad ein, like what they sell them for, then this would be a decent deal. But since they only offer you like 12 ~ 14 dollars for a game they are going to turn around and sell for twice that or more, maybe just 5 less than full price, then in the end you are going to turn in a lot of games at a loss to yourself.

I say this deal, if true, is in poor taste and takes advantage of the consumer. That's why I never trade in games, because they just don't offer a fair realistic trade in value.

I know for DS games in Canada they buy then at $15 tops (say, Mario and Luigi) and then sell them for 34.99, just $5 less than retail. It'd be one thing if they gave you cash, but it's useless store credit. Heck, if you could trade in a game for another that'd be one thing too. But you can't even get Pac Pix or Goldeneye USED when you trade in a game like Mario Kart! It's a consumer abusing system, nothing more.

I don't think its matter. I've asked before why stores just don't go ahead and refuse to take cash. Just plastic. No more armor trucks, no more worrying about skimming the cash register, and no more wasted time in getting change. That's the answer I've gotten was that it was law they had to take cash payment. I will admit I'm not expert but if anybody here in the states are a Law/Business student/professional could ask a professor/colleague for the actual government answer then go for it. Now on the flipside you have to take cash but I don't think you have to take all forms. You could conceivable only take $100 bills I'm pretty sure that permissible.

There are places that refuse to take cash... Walmart Gas Stations are a good example... but there are plenty of others. There are also some farmers out there in some backwoods parts of the country that refuse US dollars in any form and insist on being paid in bullion. Now that's rare, but it's perfectly legal.

The people that are telling you it's "the law" are mistaken, the reason most places don't refuse cash is because not everyone has a credit card, and you don't want to turn business away.

I can see it now. The only things you can buy with cash/credit are used games and systems. All new games and systems must be bought with trading in your old (and with this logic) previously bought used games. Gamestop is bought up by Lipton and now sells only tea bags and tea bag accessories.

Sure they aren't evil like EB/Gamestop. No robbing gamers of their games for pennies that they turn around and sell for close to new prices. Plus Toys R Us always seems to have awesome deals on games.

vudu is right, I just called gamestop being that its monday and the rep there said the same thing about the weird preorder testing crap in guam/hawaii/puerto rico. He says his district manager said they "won't be taking preorders any time soon" and he thinks there aren't going to be any preorders at all...but thats insane.

Two pieces of news..

I think someone mentioned this, but Amazon sold out of their Wii preorders nearly instantly!

DOAH!!! I found a place that was taking pre-orders for the Wii, no bundle and a cheaper price....$248 (ok, a dollar cheaper) Although I wasn't too sure about this, I tried e-mailing them today, waited a few hours, then got impaitent and called. Turns out there orders were more than they thought they were gonna get and stopped the presale about 2 hours before I called. They will continue the presale once they know how many they are going to get. Sucks for me, I had to go to the bank to try and get a check cleared, so I couldn't do it.

They do have the classic controller on there which I haven't seen on others websites, and it's listed for $18.82, same price as the nunchuck is listed for.

They also told me that they would ship it out as soon as they got it, but they don't have any confirmed numbers yet.

So, has anyone found any major retailers pre-ordering yet? I assume that with the number of Wii going into the market, I should't be too concerned about not finding one, but the sooner I know I got one in the bag for the 19th, the happier I'll be.
