The IGN review is glowing. It doesn't say its short, it says its short if you just rush through. It says if you play it all ots really deep.

Exactly, thats the sign of a great portable game, it should be deep but not extensive because the medium doesnt lend itself well for extended usage. Reason I love my GBA Metroid games, the replayability is huge for both, specially zero mission with the different difficulties, my first run in the game was only around 4-5 hours, a lot less than Metoid Prime, but I've replayed it trying to find every item and doing speed runs and the total time spent has increased a lot.

QOUTE FOR IANSANE:

"Absolutely brilliant platforming action that takes what Nintendo's built an empire on, and adding so much more to it. It's not a tremendous challenge, but the game is fun as hell from start to end."

Don't worry........be happy......

I just checked out the summary at the end of the IGN review.  He says it's better than Yoshi's Island.  Bold words there.  You don't just throw out bombs like THAT willy nilly.  But then I honestly doubt it's that good.  How could it be?  The industry just seems so incapable of making 2D games of that calibre anymore.

Doesn't matter thought because it still sounds awesome and just being on par with Mario's past 2D efforts is a big deal.  I'm getting this day one.

Ian....sometimes you scare me.

Why can't it be better? Does imagination deteriote with time or something?

Anyway, if you knew anything about the game, you would see exactly why it has the ability of being better then the greatest games of all time.

Considering how IGN worships YI, I guarentee this HAS to be good if they say it's on par or better. They meant it.

Also, be prepared for this to get  alot of 90s and 4.5/5. There is a natural handheld bias in a lot of review systems that use averages. They tend not to give handheld games perfect scores for sound and graphics, so the weighted rank is often unfairly low. I expect the GameSpot review to be in the 8.0s because of this. It's also why the truly great handheld games don't have high 90s scores on Gamerankings. There's a reason no portable game has over an 93% on there, sadly. So don't expect a ton of 100 reviews, deserving or not.

I could be I guess.  I'd rather assume it won't be and then be surprised if it is.  I've just found from experience that since 2D gaming was regulated to portables it just hasn't been as a good as it was in the heydey of 2D gaming.  Many times I hear high praise for a portable game and then when I get it I discover it is merely competent, which in a largely 3D era makes a title look like a bigger deal than it really is.  Some GBA games that get a lot of praise wouldn't be considered anything noteworthy had they been released ten years earlier.  It's logical really since companies typically focus more on console projects so their 2D games don't get the level of care they used to.

New Super Mario Bros still sounds awesome though.

And other franchises like Sonic and Castlevania remind us why they never should've tried 3D in the first place.

As surprisingly well done as a game like Super Princess Peach was... it's almost unthinkable that Nintendo would biff it on a mainline Mario 2D title.

It won't be better because memory has a nice sugar coating.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.  It's just hard to beat nostalgia.

This game manages to remind me of why there was a time in my life when all I played was Mario games and at the same time thrills me like all good new games do. This could be the DS' best game.

I got a call from GameStop on Monday night. It was one of those automated calls to remind you that a game you had pre-ordered will be arriving at the store the next day. The odd thing is, I didn't pre-order New Super Mario Bros..

Anyways - since Circuit City had advertised having the game at 5 PM Tuesday and for only $27.99, I decided to head over there after work. I got there around 6:15 PM and there were about 5 people that had the Video Game clerk surrounded asking for this game. She said something to them and they all backed away. I approached her and she told me that's what all of the other people were there for, and that one of her co-workers went to go look for the box as it was apparently missing.

I then strolled over to the DS game shelf and low and behold, sitting on the shelf, was one lone copy of the game.

I completed the first world on my way to work this morning. Hopefully, I have have the 2nd world completed by the time I get home.

Oh and in case anyone had any doubts...YOU NEED TO BUY THIS GAME!!!
PEACE--->Rhoq

My only major complaint with the game itself, aside from the lack of easy to get mini-mushroom and koopa shell, is that the game really isn't the pick up and play at anytime kind of game Nintendo is trying to push.  You can only save after finishing a tower, a castle, spending coins to access a house, or warping to a world you haven't been to before.  Aside from that, the game is great.

Yeah, but Super Mario World wasn't originally for a hand-held.  The GBA port was made pick-up and play friendly.

There's plenty of places to save, and it doesn't take long at all to breeze through levels until you get to them.

You've been spoiled by easy games. I think I was four or so when I played SMB3, and I don't remember that game having any saves.

This game truly rocks.  I have been spending my coins when I want to save...its a nice system Nintendo worked out.  I try to make sure I always collect at least 2 of the 3 coins in each level before moving on.

The game is very fun, and really does add some interesting elements to the Mario experience.  I could have done without the Mega Mushroom and Shell Mario, but the Mini Mario powerup is brilliant and fun.

handheld games should be able to pick up and play easier.  It wouldn't have been hard for Nintendo to put in a temp save option that a lot of RPG's have, that where you save but you lose that save when you play the game again, it's not a hard perm save.
