No two, rewatch the Nintendo World trailer of the game.  Pits first stage is the one with the giant statue of Palutena in the background along with the ancient Greek structures.  The second one is the dark underground stage that has all those Greek statues in it.  Since Pit is the only Nintendo character who's series involves Ancient Greece, both stages are indeed his.

I really enjoy the detail that the levels have, especially this one.  They I hope you get to fight the length of the ship a variation as well.

Well you have to remember we've only seen about 12 known stages so far.  Melee had 26 all new stages, and so even if Brawl was to have the same amount of stages as Melee, we still haven't seen half of them.  And then when you realize that Brawl is obviously going to have more many more stages then Melee, there's still going to be many more unique stages with a wide variety of designs.

I'm going to guess and say Brawl is probably going to have at least 40 brand new stages.  Because if most of the character franchises were represented with two stages in Melee, then they'll all at least have two stages in Brawl.  And right now for completely new franchise characters we've seen Pit has two stages, Wario is being counted as his own series so he'll have two stages and this time the Fire Emblem characters will have two stages as well.  Not to mention any new Nintendo series that might get added last minute will have at least one or two stages given to them.  Then there's the fact that Snake is getting his own stages which we've already seen some of, which means the other two third party characters will get their own stage as well.  Of course I'm sure the third parties will only get one stage.

Plus I get the feeling that the really popular series like Mario and Zelda might be given three or maybe four stages this time around, so when every thing is added up, it easily equals around 40 stages if not more so we still have a long way to go.

Yesterday we got to see Fox's moves and now today we get to see one of his stages, and damn is it f*cking sweet.  All the stuff thats happening and it looks like you'll have to watch out for pieces of asteroids and laser fire.  God I cant wait to see more of these stages because this kind of stuff is what I'm talking about.

General Gaming / Microsoft showing their true colors once again.
« on: June 17, 2007, 11:34:13 PM »
Microsoft spends $50 million dollars on exclusive GTA4 content.

If this doesn't prove to people that Microsoft is hell bent on monopolizing the videogame industry then nothing will.  If they are willing to go to such lengths just to have the better version of a game then what's to stop them in the future from spending billions to just buy as many third parties as possible so their competitors have little to no support?

Microsoft strategy is all about them becoming number one, but since they were owned by the PS2 last gen and are having their asses handed to them by the Wii this gen, eventually Microsoft will just say "f*ck it" and resort to what they know best.  Destroying their competition by buying out everything in sight.

3756
Today's update is Links Final Smash, Triforce Slash which looks pretty sweet too.  Of course I can't wait until Sakurai finally shows us how Kirby's Final Smash will work with the whole becoming Cook Kirby and all.  I'm sure that update is going to be quite entertaining.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Life Span
« on: June 16, 2007, 10:42:00 AM »
The Wii will have the full 5 year life cycle, maybe even longer.  For everyone talking about the system being underpowered, it doesn't matter.  The majority of people buy games for the game itself and because they think it'll be fun, not because it has pretty graphics.  This has been proven time and time again and isn't going to change.

And for everyone that says the difference was never this big, oh yes it was.  The DS vs PSP was the precursor to the Wii dominating the market.  As anyone could see, there was and still is a very noticeable difference between DS and PSP games, yet the DS is killing the PSP in sales.  The reason is because the DS has a great selection of games with a wide variety and many that appeal to the wide audience.  Even if Sony was to release a PSP 2 with better graphics and more power it wouldn't matter because people are buying the DS regardless of the graphics.

This is what is happening with the Wii and will continue to.  Even if the 360 and PS3 were some how able to achieve photo realistic graphics next year, it wouldn't mean sh!t.  As I've said a million times, people don't buy systems for their power, they buy them for the games.  Right now Nintendo is winning because they have the best price with the best variety of games that appeal to a wide audience, and this will only increase as time goes on.

Sega expects PS3 to win this Gen

I'm wondering if Sega's seen the recent NPD data

Wii - 338,278
360 - 154,932
PS3 - 81,604

Or how about last weeks Media Create Hardware sales

Wii - 64,529
PS3 -  8,776

You know what, I get the feeling that all there is inside Sega headquarters is a giant crater, and all the employees do each day is throw as much money as they can into it.  That's why Sega is literally, a giant money pit.

3760
Well we finally get to see regular Samus in the game again.  The only other time we've seen her was when she did her huge blast attack and become Zero Suit Samus in the E3 2006 trailer.  Here's hoping that next week they'll give Zero Suit Samus a profile and reveal how regular Samus turns into her.

3761
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin were both released on the SAME DAY, December 5th here in America.  Metal Gear wasn't even able to hit the 100,000 mark in the NPD's sales for December while Portrait of Ruin sold around 120,000 copies in December.

Yet, Konami and IGA still believe the DS is for kids and the PSP is where all the older gamers are at.  Even though sales data has proven them wrong, they still love to insult the system that's doing them well, while giving all their love to the system that doesn't care for them at all.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official Wii Sales Thread
« on: June 12, 2007, 01:47:44 PM »
The 360 has had a slight increase in Japan, but that's not saying much.  Microsoft's sales increase in Japan is like scoring a 12% on a test, and then retaking it and scoring a 17%.  Even though your test score has improved, it's still a huge failure, just like the 360 in Japan.

3763
Oh look, it's our good friend Fox.  From the images we see his Up B and Forward B are the same.  But if you look at the image of him hitting Mario it looks like they've changed his regular attacks.  In Melee he attacked by kicking but from the image we see him punching Mario.  I'm guessing Sakurai really listened to all the complaints of Melee's balance issue's because if Fox's regular attacks are different, they've probably toned him down.

Even though I didn't find Melee's balance issues to be as bad as some, I do agree Fox needs to be changed because his character in Melee can be very cheap.  And from the looks of these images they've indeed changed Fox which really points to him being balanced out in this game.

I'd like to see the source of these numbers.

Halo numbers

Nintendogs and New Super Mario Bros numbers

I dont see why people think Halo is this unstoppable series.  The only record Halo has is it sold 2.5 million copies in one day, which is the quickest any games sold so quickly.  But other then that there are many games that have sold more then Halo 2.

I'm too lazy to post all of them but look at the charts here that show the top selling videogames of all time, it shows where Halo really stands in the world.

Lets see here

As you can see Nintendo does have games that are more popular then Halo.  The reason none of there Gamecube games outsold Halo 2 was because the Gamecube became unpopular and had a smaller user base.  But when Nintendo systems have a larger user base like the DS, they have software that can easily match and surpass Halo.

I see both Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl as the two games that can easily match Halo 3.  Mario Galaxy is being viewed as the true successor to Mario 64.  Mario 64 sold over 11 million copies worldwide so if Galaxy ends up like 64 then it can easily surpass Halo.

Plus on the issue of Smash Bros, Melee sold 6.5 million copies worldwide and the Gamecube only had a user base of around 21 million.  This means about 1/3 of all Gamecube owners owned it, just like 1/3 of the 24 million Xbox owners owned Halo 2.  This fall the Wii and 360 will have the same sized user base meaning if the attachment radio for the previous games was about the same, Brawl has a chance of matching the sales of Halo 3.

I think I've discovered a pattern in the updates for each week.  On the first week for the opening we saw a stage, list of musician and the Basic Rules.  The next day we got Mario and Link who are two Veteran Fighters, then an item, then the Newcomer Pit.

Then last week we got two of Pits moves on Monday, Mario's Final Smash on Tuesday, the ability to shoot while running on Wednesday, a new item (Cracker Launcher) on Thursday and then a new stage (Delfino Plaza) on Friday.

Now this week we've had, music from what will be a Yoshi stage, Pokeball items, how to recover and now two Veteran Fighters.  If tomorrow's update deals with a Newcomer then there's definitely a pattern.

From all this it seems that each week the updates in random order are

- Stage related, whether it's a stage or music from a stage
- Basic Gameplay info
- One of the items from the game
- Something related to Veteran Fighters
- Something related to Newcomers

This is from an interview in the recent Play magazine.

Quote

Play: I know you have great affection for the original PC Engine Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, and you've talked about letting Western fans have the chance to play it for a long time. Why now, and why PSP?

IGA: I had often been told people wanted a Castlevania on PSP, long before this project began. The traditional Castlevania user base is somewhat older and more mature, so within the company it had often been suggested PSP might be a better idea than DS. When work began on the PSP version, we realized drawing pixel art at that resolution would be very difficult, and I knew the desire for a 3-D Castlevania with 2-D gameplay was there. Since that approach would be technically possible on PSP, I thought the timing was finally right for Rondo of Blood.

Text

Oh and your all going to love what he says about Ayami Kojima returning for the artwork.

Quote

Play: Something a lot of fans are happy about is the return of character designer Ayami Kojima to the series. Why the return to her more mature designs after two installments of the series that favored an anime look?

IGA: Well, the character designs for the original Rondo of Blood got a very mixed reception. You could say most of the opinions were not favorable. Since this game also contains Symphony of the Night, which Kojima designed and was very well received, I wanted to unify the aesthetic of the two games. I truly believe that even if the look changes, as long as we stay true to the Castlevania gameplay itself our core fans won't abandon us. I think that was the case with the DS games. However, the PSP owner tends to be a little older and thus probably more appreciative of Kojima's designs.

Play: So it's mainly a question of target age groups?

IGA: To be honest I've been told by some younger people that they think Kojima's designs are a little scary [laughs]. I think adults can appreciate them, of course, but for younger DS users it can be a little off-putting.

So what exactly is IGA going to say when this game bombs horribly like every other 2d PSP game.  Will he finally realize that the people that have been buying the Castlevania games for the GBA and DS ARE the traditional older fanbase because we're the only ones that still care about the series these days.  It it that hard for him and others to acknowledge the fact that a lot of DS owners are *gasp* Adults as well?

Here's the all the scans I found on a topic at Gamefaqs for anyone that wants to read the full interview.

Exactly, people have to remember that these updates are not for the Hardcore Smash Bros players but for everyone.  Since the Wii is more popular then the N64 or Gamecube ever were, Brawl is going to be the highest selling Smash Bros game in the series.  Meaning these updates are very important to inform those that aren't familar with the series.

If these updates were just aimed at people like us, and only showed off the new and more advanced features, it's be a poor way of bringing in new players.  This is what killed 2d fighters back in the 90's because the companies only started focusing on pleasing the hardcore fanbase and so it became impossible for the average person to jump in because they had no idea what to do anymore.

What are you talking about?  All the Megaman games on the Gamecube OUTSOLD their PS2 counterparts.  Plus the only exclusive Megaman the Gamecube had was EXE Battle Network, which actually sold more then X7 and X8 which were exclusive on the PS2.

Which sums up my whole point of how the majority of Megaman fans are also Nintendo fans because the PS2 had a user base 4 times bigger then the Gamecube, yet Megaman games sold better on the Gamecube.  But instead of rewarding us for being the ones giving the series the most support, Inafune wants to keep putting the series on systems that don't care while ignoring the systems that actually would.

General Gaming / Keiji Inafune wants to make Megaman Legends 3

Mega Man Creator Dreams of Next-Gen Mega Man

Of course he wants to use the Dead Rising and Lost Planet Engine which means he'd wants the game to be on the Xbox 360 or PS3 if it was to ever be created.  Which would be the dumbest decision in the world because PS3/360 owner don't care about Megaman and would cause the game to bomb horrible.  Which would cause Capcom to never even think about the Legends series ever again.  Of course if he was to release it on the Wii it has a chance of actually selling well which could allow the series to be revived.

Damn, you'd think after last gen when all the Megaman games sold better on Nintendo systems, Inafune would have learned that most Megaman fans are also Nintendo fans and so Megaman games will sell the best on Nintendo systems.  Plus there's a reason right now Capcom is allowing a sequel to ZX and not the remakes, because ZX on the DS sold well while the remakes on the PSP did beyond horrible.

What will it take for this guy to finally get the message that the Megaman fanbase is with Nintendo?

3771
Yes, I was hoping they'd have a Super Mario Sunshine stage.  I love the Delfino Plaza theme and can't wait to hear it remixed since it's one of my favorite themes.

Plus I also love the idea of these moving stages and hope to see a lot of them.  Who's hoping we'll see a moving Metroid stage that takes for a wild ride through the different parts of Zebes, or maybe a Kirby stage that takes place on a gaint star and takes you to all these different locations from the Kirby games.  Now that would be sweet.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:by this time on gamecube

The Wii already has 7 titles that have already sold over a million.  By this time in the Gamecubes life it only had 2 games that had hit the million mark worldwide, Smash Bros and Luigi's Mansion.

And if you want to compare sales to the XBox 360, the Wii is holding it's own very well when you realize that it's been on the market for only 6 months and the 360 had a year head start.

XBox 360 million sellers

Wii million sellers

While everyone rushing to get the Smash Ball is bound to create some classic match moments, I'd rather the game reward skill, not that getting the Smash Ball first requires no skill. A lot of it also relies on luck of the draw too. If the Smash Ball appears right next to me, you're SOL. It's kind of like the bob-omb, where the bob-omb could spawn in the air as your air-attacking thus dooming you, except without the possible negative repercussions.

But the item can only be used once per match by each character.  This means if you don't get it the first time, you can get it the next time it appears because your opponent will be unable to use it.

3774
Now this is my kind of update.  It sounds like characters can only use Final Smash attacks once per match, which is nice to hear since an item like that could make the game way to cheap if it allowed people to these attacks over and over again.

I also think this means Samus turns into Zero Suit Samus by using one of these items then.  We all talked about this after the E3 2006 trailer when her armor comes off after using here Final Smash attack.  I think this is now a reality because it makes sense because her Final Smash looks like it takes up most of the screen which will probably make it one of the strongest Final Smash attacks, but after using it she'll because Zero Suit in order to trade power for speed for the rest of the match.  I think this sounds like a great way to balance out her character if true then.

3775
Well the site was just updated.  Not much of an update but we get to see what Pit's normal B and Up B move are.  I wonder if this means tomorrows update will be his Forward B and Down B move then?  Or maybe those will be shown today also but Sakurai hasn't finished updating yet.  We'll I'm going to bed now so if he adds anything else, it'll be when I'm a sleep.
