Warhammer? Really?

This unusually brisk episode sees the regular crew reunited and ready to catch up on the standard format. New Business includes a lot of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia discussion, plus rare appearances from sports games and MMORPGs.

In Listener Mail, we answer your questions about the role of story in Nintendo games, the poor use of online gameplay on portable systems, and evil Zelda dungeons. Be sure to keep sending those questions and comments for the weekly dose of mail, and please include your location!

Talkback

We are currently almost out of letters to read when we record on Wednesday night.  Any good questions or comments you could send before then would be much appreciated.  Suggestions for the show, including feature topic ideas, are also welcome.

Hey John, since you're playing the Warhammer MMO and seem to like it, would you like a free item to go with your character?  Everyone who ordered the Special Edition of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 got a slip with a code for a "Kossar Helm" in Warhammer that apparently does something silly like turn you into a bear.  I have no use for it (I have a friend addicted to World of WarCraft, and it's not a pretty sight), so if you're interested PM me and it's yours.

Man, I could just kick myself in the head.  I couldn't find anybody that wanted to give me one online, so I picked one up on eBay.  It wasn't a lot of cash, but damn it.

Sell that thing online, you'll get $20-$30 for it.

Wow, nice.  I didn't think people actually did that.  I could certainly use the money right now with CT coming up.

Heh, Supermarket Sweep reference. Anyone remember that old game show where people seemed to run around in front of a blue screen and interact with the game on screen? That was so cool. Talk about how the awesome user name change feature was ripped out of the forums on the next podcast and why

I asked Aaron to turn off name changes because they were too confusing and were being abused for bad jokes.

Man I totally remember the name of that game show Jonny!  I used to watch it all the time, I think it was on WGN.  Anyone remember the name or have a link to some footage??

Are we still behind by 2 weeks in the podcasts?

I love how humble Greg is about his gaming skills, when you just know he is thinking "You guys suck so much. Mega Man 9 is barely serviceable in the challenge department along with Castlevania: OoE"

I haven't heard 122 yet (James is extremely close to being finished with it), but 123 is an awesome episode.  We also have big plans for a special edition on episode 124!  (Hint: it's a special gaming anniversary.)

Wiinniversary?? yay

GoldenPhoenixNovember 14, 2008

Episode 124 coming Winter 2009! I can't wait! It is almost like being caught in a time warp bubble or something. ;)

Aren't we actually back on track now?

I hate to seem like I'm always ragging on Silks, but that guy really knows how to push my buttons.

His offhanded comment about the power of the PSP compared to the DS during the MMO discussion made me throw my hands up in the air in disgust.

I'm currently operating under the theory that he says these things in order to get a rise out of us.

Well, it IS more powerful.

All that power and nothing to look forward to :(.

Well, it IS more powerful.

The PSP's more powerful Wifi would allow for MMOs better than on DS?  Huh?

PSP has a more open WiFi architecture (no friend codes), and the signal is probably stronger than that of the DS.  The DSi has an improved signal strength, but that hasn't been quantified.

If we're talking about a 3D virtual world MMO, how could the PSP NOT be better?  It has a more powerful processor and can push better 3D graphics.  And like Jonny said, it doesn't have friend codes, and its WiFi is likely more powerful than the DS.  Am I missing something?

I never said that MMOs couldn't be done on DS, and I wasn't trying to push anyone's buttons.

GoldenPhoenixNovember 16, 2008

Lindy is evil so everything he says MUST be taken as a slam ;). Personally I would hate to play any MMORPG on DS or PSP. Talk about being cramped (Especially using PSP's analog nub).

I'm excited for Phantasy Start Zero

Yeah, I couldn't see myself playing an MMORPG for hours on end on the DS or PSP.  The MMORPG experience isn't really designed with portability in mind.

Just got around to listening to this. I just want to say that my question about Disaster WAS suppose to be a joke.  :P
