Nintendogs Kicks Off 'Dog Days' of Summer

Nintendo Will Unleash a Pack of 170 New Games This Fall and an Earth-Shaking

Accessory

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 22 -- Today's launch of Nintendogs™

marks the end of the summer doldrums and the beginning of the "dog days" of

summer. The three versions of the cool puppy simulation, made exclusively for

Nintendo DS™, hit stores today and herald the beginning of a hit parade of

games for all three of Nintendo's video game systems through the end of the

year.

Game Boy® Micro ships to stores on Sept. 19 at an MSRP of just $99.99,

multiple Mario™ sports titles are on their way for Nintendo GameCube™

and Nintendo DS now has a MSRP of $129.99, with an earth-shaking new Nintendo

DS Rumble Pak™ on its way for Metroid® Prime Pinball. But it's the

Nintendogs pups that will serve as the lead dogs.

"You can only let sleeping dogs lie for so long, and these Nintendogs are

ready to play," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice

president of marketing and corporate communications. "Nintendo players will

be howling with delight all the way through the holidays with Nintendogs and

the depth and breadth of games available on all Nintendo systems."

Nintendo fans clearly will have plenty of titles to choose from. Between

now and the end of the year, players will play soccer, tennis and baseball

with Mario, explore a mystery in Trace Memory™ and fight battles in both

Battalion Wars™ and Advance Wars®: Dual Strike. On Oct. 24, Metroid

Prime Pinball will come bundled with the new DS Rumble Pak accessory. The DS

Rumble Pak fits into the Game Boy® Advance slot of the DS and lets players

feel all the rolling, bumping and tilting that are the hallmarks of great

pinball games. In total, nearly 170 games are on their way for Nintendo

systems. Here's a list of games currently scheduled to launch for Nintendo

This needs a reformat... face-icon-small-smile.gif

Items of interest:
~earth-shaking new Nintendo DS Rumble Pak(TM) on its way for Metroid(R) Prime Pinball.
~Nov. 28: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time from Nintendo (I don't recall it having a subtitle before)
~Q1 2006: Metroid Prime Hunters from Nintendo (Looks like Ninty has listened to whining about lack of online)
~Dec. 5: Super Mario Strikers from Nintendo (I believe this has been pushed UP)

Man you people are quick. It took me a minute to reformat it, but it's readable now.

Also, Mario Tennis Advance is now Mario Tennis: Power Tour.

Hostile CreationAugust 22, 2005

I love the subtitle for Mario and Luigi. I am so getting that game, the first is one of my favorites.
Looks like there are more to-get games than I thought (for me). I already intended to get Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Trace Memory, Gunstar Super Heroes, and (not listed, but still) Geist.
Now I'm also interested in Mario Kart, Battalion Wars, and maybe Super Mario Strikers and Metroid Pinball. Thanks to the Zelda pushback I should be able to afford Battalion Wars, and Strikers and Pinball are pending.
Nintendogs is on my "get eventually" list.

Only thing this list needs? Chibi Robo and Electroplankton face-icon-small-sad.gif

"Dec. 5: Super Mario Strikers from Nintendo (I believe this has been pushed UP)"

Maybe they moved it up so it could replace Zelda as the big holiday game. If they've got nothing else, Mario's as good of a bet as anything else I guess.

Nintendo is releasing three games in October. Since they already have Pokemon XD and Mario DDR for that month maybe they should delay Fire Emblem to November and try to push it as a big holiday release. I'm not normally a fan of delaying a game to spread out releases but in this case it would make sense to. At the very least Fire Emblem is an epic game and epic games fit the "Christmas blockbuster" mold very well. Plus it's a cool game with a non-cutesy design that's quite different from Nintendo's usual games. It's also mature and story driven, two things that are very popular in today's games that are usually absent from most Nintendo titles. Twilight Princess is creating a lot of hype outside of the core Nintendo fanbase. Fire Emblem shares many of the same elements that is giving the new Zelda that mass appeal. Make a big ad campaign, show lots of that FMV in the ad (dirty trick but it works) and build the game up to be an epic LotR-style adventure.

At the very least it's something different from Nintendo that COULD take off and become a big franchise. Nintendo doesn't have anything to lose by pushing it. They've got a hole in their release schedule and they've got an epic game coming out a month before. Why not give it a shot? If it succeeds Nintendo has another popular franchise in North America. If it doesn't they're not really any more screwed than they were when they had nothing. It stands a better chance to sell Cubes than Mario Strikers ever will. I'm sure Mario Strikers will sell well but no one who doesn't own a Cube already is going to buy one for a Mario game. And Mario Strikers is not going to bomb or anything just because Fire Emblem takes off.

And Daigasso! Band Brothers... face-icon-small-sad.gif (Jam With The Band (working title))

Oh well... I've got the Japanese one and will be importing the expansion cart when it comes out. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Hopefully this announcement of release dates will soon be combined with breaking news on the Revolution. face-icon-small-happy.gif

November is already killing my wallet as it is... face-icon-small-frown.gif

Ian SaneAugust 22, 2005

"November is already killing my wallet as it is..."

Yeah, but not every Cube owner has a DS. Besides, it's Christmas. Ask someone to get you some of those games as gifts. face-icon-small-smile.gif

LoknoAugust 22, 2005

On my must buy list is Tracy Memory, Mario Kart, Mario & Luigi and Animal Crossing. I'll give King Kong, Mario Party, Stikers, Mario Baseball, Fire Emblem and maybe even Pokemon a rent.

RhoqAugust 22, 2005

Is it me, or is Lost In Blue missing from the list?

Also, it's nice to see so many DS games getting ready for release. There are also more 'Cube game than I though there would be.

ShyGuyAugust 22, 2005

Isn't Gun from Activision coming out this Fall?

steveyAugust 22, 2005

"Nov. 14: Mario Kart DS from Nintendo
Dec. 5: Animal Crossing from Nintendo"

wasn't those games to come in ausgust? sooo many game so little cash

Nile BoogieAugust 22, 2005

I have to import Electroplankton now. If you're lucky enough to own "any two systems" you should have plenty to play this fall.

Ian, I agree. Fire Emblem should really be pushed as Nintendo's big holiday title now that Zelda is out of the picture. I can't see anything else that could match in terms of "blockbuster" potential.

Anybody notice that New Super Mario Bros. is missing from this list?

ArtimusAugust 22, 2005

No surprise SMB is pushed back. Not that they need it. Man what a lineup for the DS!

Bill AurionAugust 22, 2005

Super Mario Bros. DS never had a release in the first place...face-icon-small-smile.gif When Nintendo said the game was still really early at E3, I knew then it was a 2006 title...

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorAugust 22, 2005

Yeah, aren't these the first official dates for Mario Kart and Animal Crossing? I had myself convinced there was no way Animal Crossing was coming out before christmas...now I'm all giddy and excited.

Looking at the list (granted much of the reason is because of the DS) I'm fricken happy Zelda is delayed. As it stands now I'm trying to chop that list down and there are still at least 5 games I'll be buying on launch.

Sheesh.

MarioAugust 22, 2005

I am also worried at the lack of Chibi Robo and Electroplankton. face-icon-small-frown.gif

At least Mario & Luigi 2 is confirmed for 2005 now, good news! There's a crap load of games I need to get there, for DS and GC.

Infernal MonkeyAugust 22, 2005

I don't understand the massive amount of time it's taking Electroplankton to get released. =\

KnowsNothingAugust 22, 2005

All of the sound effects need to be replaced with beat-boxes and expletives, and that takes time.
