Big GBA+GCN game in 2002?

Another false delay rumor from Daily Radar and the first rumblings of a big Nintendo project.

Today, Daily Radar reported on an interview conducted with Nintendo's immortal leader, Hiroshi Yamauchi (conducted by Video Senki). The writer accidentally quoted the interview in a way that makes it appear as if Yamauchi is hinting at general development problems for GameCube games with a possible delay of the July launch in Japan.

I followed the link to the article at Video Senki and found a much different situation.

On the Game Boy Advance/Gamecube

"Right now, Nintendo's development teams are working on the creation of a totally brand new type of game, tying together the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. Our goal is to introduce this product during the Christmas rush of 2002."

Until then?

"We will release a new Pokémon for Game Boy Advance as well... The main problem is Gamecube software. We won't be able to get any user support if we continue to release games on the brink of missing release dates. Our major goals are centered around Christmas 2002, but the Gamecube will fail if nothing interesting is released for it before then."

As you can see, Nintendo, as usual, has a revolutionary game in development. This game will use the GBA/GameCube connection and a new idea like this is bound to run into a few barriers; nothing that won't be overcome given time. There is no indication that normal GameCube software is not on schedule for launch. Yamauchi sees this revolutionary software as the lifeblood of Nintendo that separates them from the rest. This is why he says their major goals revolve around this software and its 2002 release.
