No Wii Redesign Plans in North America

There will be no changes to the Wii hardware in North America for now.

There are no North American release plans for the Wii bundle with a redesigned console packaged with Wii Sports and Wii Party and without GameCube support that was announced for Europe earlier today.

There are also no plans to release the redesigned console on its own.

The full statement from Nintendo is below.

“Nintendo of America does not currently have any plans to release the Wii bundle that was announced by Nintendo of Europe on Aug. 17. Consumers in the United States can currently purchase a Wii console bundled with the Mario Kart Wii game and Wii Wheel accessory for a suggested retail price of $149.99. The Wii Party game is available separately for a suggested retail price of $39.99.”

I expect it eventually, especially when NCL stops manufacturing the original model.

Not surprising. Why release a redesigned system when you can't even be bothered to release games for its current iteration?

“Nintendo of America does not currently have any plans"

That's NOA in a nutshell.

CericAugust 17, 2011

I think that makes sense.  NoA realizes the market is pretty saturated and its not a price issue.  Why support another Sku?

Ceric, I imagine that this re-design will replace the existing Wii rather than co-exist alongside it (like when Sony and Microsoft re-designed the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, they replaced the existing models).

"There are also no plans to release the redesigned console on its own."

Is it just me or does the statement sound to only be addressing the choice of packed ins and not the redesigned hardware at all....

Chozo GhostAugust 17, 2011

Yeah it will probably replace it EVENTUALLY, but doesn't existing inventory need to be cleared out first? Maybe that's what NOA is waiting for to happen.

My statement still makes sense.  Until inventory is gone then these won't come out.  I would not be surprised if there is enough inventory out in the US to cover demand till the WiiU is out.
