Nintendo Files Horseback Riding Simulator Patent

The patent includes an inflatable saddle.

Silicon Era has unearthed a patent by Nintendo for a horse riding simulator that features an inflatable saddle.

The patent was filed at the European Patent Office in January, and the description states that it's an inflatable cushion with slots for motion-sensing controllers.

Despite the fact that the image shows a child being the one using the product, the patent says that adults can enjoy it too.

"Physical size is a significant problem with such prior designs [such as rocking horses and merry-go-rounds]. To be realistic and useful by older children and adults, the model's dimensions generally need to approximate the size of a real animal."

The seat could also provide force feedback in order to simulate the experience of riding a horse, as well as allow for another control to be used to simulate a weapon, a lasso or another weapon or item.

Other Nintendo patents have surfaced throughout the year, such as Miyamoto's touch screen-based role-playing game patent reported back in April as well as the Demo Play Patent (which has since then been confirmed to be in New Super Mario Bros. Wii).

If this is actually released it's going to be Japan-only, no question. I can't see this thing actually selling elsewhere.

Yes Black N Mild we know that you posted the story.

Most of the talkback news gets taken from the forums.

I posted the link since all the conversation we seemed to have about the topic happened 3 days ago. Might as well direct the few that have something left to say about it over there.

Not that i'm NOT not-surprised about you wanting this, but i'm more (or is it less) not-surprised that you show your face after all this time to just comment on THIS.

Wait, what?

KDR_11kAugust 14, 2009

Why the hell does this thing go on every news website out there? Also I wouldn't be surprised if this just predates the balance board and was meant as a passive solution to the same effect.

BlackNMild2k1August 14, 2009

Don't 4get that there is a popular horse racing game in Japan. Maybe Nintendo was just trying to secure an exclusive new version.

I'm not surprised this piece of news got Kairon to post again.

LOL.

Seriously though guys, ever since I got addicted to that Sega Derby Arcade game (Winner's Circle? Something like that?) I've been itching for a horse racing game. I was crushed... CRUSHED... when that early Derby game G1 Jockey didn't come to America.
