The Adventure RPG-Murder Mystery comes to Japan this summer for DS.

According to this week’s Famitsu, a brand new Square-Enix intellectual property, Sigma Harmonics, will be making its way to the DS this summer in Japan.

The title is an Adventure RPG which revolves around a collection of murder mysteries and is presented in a chapter format. With each progressive chapter a new mystery is revealed and solved within the scope of the chapter. Interestingly, the game requires you to hold the DS like a book to play, similar to the two DS Brain Age titles.

The game is being directed by Hiroki Chiba, known for his work with Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and character design will also be handled by a member of the Dirge of Cerberus team, Yusaku Nakaaki. Currently the game is about 60% complete with no discussion of release in any other territories.

Well this is certainly unique. Not sure exactly how this will turn out, but I'm damn glad it is a game that doesn't involve Final Fantasy in any way shape or form. Nintendo seeing new Square Enix IPs is definitely a nice thing to see happen.

I also read that this game will bear semblance to the Persona games, so if you are a fan of them I'd say keep an eye out for this one.

I was just complaining about being real tired of fantasy based rpgs and would wish someone would make a more mature attempt to add new material to the genre. Is Square Enix is planting thoughts in my brain!?!

I'm glad to see that Square is actually giving a crap about Nintendo systems for other means than "re-release every game with Final, Fantasy, Dragon or Quest in the title".
The combination of this and the World Ends With You seem to show that at least Sqeenix is trying to innovate the genre. Now if only they would make some kind of real Wii game...
Or at least talk up Crystal Bearers more

Knowing that Squeenix is still behind it, the plot will probably still involve amnesia and cloning.

That said, I'll probably be playing it if it ever comes out here.
