Anyone hear/see anything about Sega's Aiai (from Super Monkey Ball) being in MKDD? I read somewhere else that he was seen in the game. Playable racer? What?

Aiai is not in the game. Some must have seen Diddy Kong and didnt know who he was.

It has been reported by PGC that 8 player LAN if official. They do not mean you can have 32 players but a total of 8 gamecubes and one player for each gamecube if you like. The combinations could be 4 gamecubes / 2 players per gamecube, 2 gamecubes 4 players each and so on. That is what they mean by it.

The GBA Mario Kart is very simple and easy. Nothing new was added to it. My 12 year old sister beat the game in like 2 days, and its basically a port over of the SNES version just without Koopa Troopa.

They may have it so a tournament can have 32 players much like SSB had it so you could have 64 person tourny. But I wouldn't know I couldn't go this year....

Mario Kart Online

It looks like Mario Kart is online. Nintendo didn't want to use tunneling because the user would have to use a computer. Gamespy made some in-game software so all you do is connect the cable to your modem and your ready to play online.

I hope they have a good nubmer of extra characters that would be great.

Hey just wondering...I know Wario and Waluigi are playable characters in this game but I haven't seen them in any pics or movies yet.  Have any of you?

Well, they are in it. They are part of the MArio world (wario and Waluigi being cousins to MArio and Luigi pretty much explains it to the uninitiated). So why wouldn't they be?

Wario and Waluigi can be seen in the IGN Insider movies on Cube.IGN.com

This site has a picture where you can see Wario, Waluigi and their kart.

I have nothing against Toad, but he's pretty useless, except for hosting parties in dumb hats. Haha. Sorry Toad. Toad ROCKS! I want Toad to be playable in Mario Kart too. Imagine it! His special weapon is the super-mega-ultra-dizzy boost mushroom! Use it and you just woosh around the track like Speedy Gonzalez on Speed on Road Runner on Speed. I think maybe that's why Toad's not seen as playable. He has too much of an advantage, being a mushroom and all.

I would not be surprised at all if Toad turned out to be one of the Princess' weapons, a la Super Smash Brothers.  However, there is the small chance there will be unlockable secret characters.

I think that there will definately be unlockable characters. Think about it, the game will support 8 players and each player gets two characters. That means that someone is always stuck with peach, daisy, or some other crappy character. It shouldnt be hard to add more characters and that would make the game much more fun. I want Toad and Boo playable.

Has there been a release date yet, or just sometime this year???

Also I havnt heard anything about battle mode. I assume its in there, was it just not playable at E3???

Actually Boo is now a possibility.  According to those who have played the game, there is no Boo item.  Instead you can steal other players' items by grabbing them when you drive by.  Why would they get rid of the Boo item?  The only reason I see is if Boo is in fact a character.

Yeah, I heard that Boo was a playable character.

It'd be cool if Toad was unlockable.  I played as him often in 64 (and Bowser).

Characters from Hyrule and the Legend of Zelda saga are not part of the Mushroom Kingdom, so no

I back that up.  It's extremely unlikely, not to mention a silly idea.  Zelda racing.  Tee hee.

why not have a whole Nintendo-nostalgic lineup of characters, ala Super Smash Bros Melee? I mean, 8 players, with two players each means that there needs to be at least 16 characters.

I think that 30 character would be reasonable and could easily fit in the game. There are only 3 sizes of characters so for example if there were 10 small characters (baby mario, baby luigi, toad etc.) they would all handle the same so the only difference would be what they looked like, and their speech. They would all have unique weapons, but look how many weapons are in SSBM.

The 16 characters they have announced are fine so long as at least Boo and Toad can be unlocked. If not why are there all the baby characters instead of different characters like Toad. How can you have Mario and Baby Mario in the same game anyways, they are the same character.

Oh well, no matter what is in this game, the game will undoubtedly be fantastic.

yeah I was thinking that it was unlikely that Link would be in it, he doesn't quite fit in that world but would you say that the DKs were part of the Mushroom Kingdom, because the only games I can think of that have both Mario characters and DK in is the one where DK is the 'bad guy' throwing barrels at Mario, the other Mario Karts, and the Mario Partys (theres probably a couple more but I can't think of any games that aren't multiplayer games)  I haven't played the N64 Donkey Kong if theres any link between them in there, DK characters do seem to fit quite well in Mario Kart games though (better than LOZ characters would)
Edit: Oh and smash brothers is another game

DK was Mario's arch enemy before bowser plus he is pretty cool so he has to stay in the game.

Just get Donkey Kong Racing and merge it with Mario Kart!
I mean, there's a DK race track anyway! So why not have all the tracks and characters they were planning with in DKR, and just put em into MK!
