0 days for me! I managed to pry a copy from the EB hands...

Ok, here are my first comments on it. EXCLUSIVE EXCLUSIVE EXCLUSIVE!
I'm feeling lazy so I'll just paste what I said in the Aussie thread...

I'm going to warn about minor spoilers, but most of it has been available at the official site.

~ There are lots of things happening on screen - items everywhere, mario-related baddies trying to get you, opponents trying to get you, takes a while to adjust, even at the front of the field.
~ Flower Cup has the coolest obstacle I've seen - moving tables on a cruise ship  LMAO! And you can release a Chain Chomp somehow, because one flew by me after I passed it, chomping its way into a wall. Also, there is a beach level where you have to dodge those annoying beach critters from SMS, but you can knock them out with shells. Funness to the max.
~ If bright and cheerful are not how you like your graphics, stay away.
~ You start out with three karts, and unlock more by winning golds in the championships. I want Wario's Pimp Mobile dammit!
~ Wario has the coolest special weapon - a bob-omb that diables you attacker for a short period if you get hit. Yoshi has a targeting egg that spits out various items on the track on impact. I played with Baby Mario as well but didn't find his unique item...
~ Also, there are different reactions to hitting targets, such as the kart flaming if you hit fire, or the kart sparking after you are hit by lightning (yes, the lightning is back, actually all the old weapons are), good to see attention to detail.
~ The fake item boxes are more obvious than their MK64 equivalent.

Overall, IGN was way off. Their review is very contradictory, so I'd disregard it. If you're looking for a rating, I give it a 9.4, because I played way too much MK64 and the easy difficulties on DD are way too easy. I can't comment on multi because I have no friends at midnight for now, but I predict it will be better than single player.

IGN's review reminds me why I spend so much time renting games rather than listening to reviews. The score is not that bad when you look at the fact that it is inline with past score for Mario Kart. The problem I did have with review like many others is the nitpicking. It boggles the mind that one can see barely nothing else but praise for the latest Tony Hawk or Madden, but Nintendo has been hounded throughout the year for "rehasing."

MKD may have a lot issues, and it is the reviewers job to report them. But I think the almost angry tone of the review was more of message to Nintendo than anything else really. I'm still laughing about the unlockable skins remark. Does Fran know there is a high amount of customization in F-Zero GX? Did the thought ever occur to IGN that Nintendo purposely released F-zero and MK so close because they work hand in hand, influencing the way they approached bonus materials, speed, and difficulty to the game?

You realize that MK 64 got crappy reviews on a lot of sites as well, Gamespot 6.5, game revolution B- I am sure there were more. Yet, it is IMO the best racing game ever created, especially the multi player.

I got Mario Kart! YAY! I finished 50cc Mushroom, Fire flower and Star cups with Mario and Luigi in Mario kart, Mushroom cup in Koopa and Paratroopa on Koopa Car and tested Wario's pimp car in time trial. Awesome game, got to call some friends over tomorrow to play some multiplayer!

It appears, going by Gamespots preview, that they liked it a little more.  We'll see soon.

Hey cool, first time I've noticed this bloody huge thread. Go me. I HAVE DOUBLE DASH!!
I've spent an hour on it so far, and it seems pretty good. Not amazing, but not as bad as what Fran was going on about at IGN. OH NO, LACK OF SKINS? DUUUUR. FAIL.

Short cuts are alot harder to find this time around. I found a huge one on Yoshi's Circuit (Awesome track, it's shaped like Yoshi! ) by stuffing up. Kinda. I erm, fell off the edge of the track and "WHA?" secret find get.
Graphics are nice. Very Mario Sunshine-ish. All the characters have the strange Sonic Adventure type shiny applied to them. Makes them look like dolls. Eh, whatever.

The music is terrible (in my opinion, of course, but then again, this whole thing is! *SHOCK*), none of tunes have stuck in my head, which is unusual for a Nintendo game. I still hum Dr. Mario themes. AFTER 12 YEARS. MAKE THEM STOP. WEEE.
Oh yeah, CPU still cheats to stay in its pre-set place. Which is pretty annoying.

So far, I'm enjoying it. Maybe I'll find it 'amazing' after more playtime.

Aight my impressions after 5 hours with the game...ITS FU***ING HARD.. I was a MK 64 veteran and cant even beat 100cc star cup..its really that hard..the graphics are what you expect and the music aint as bad as i first thought..Pleanty of unlockables but...battle mode is a bit of a let down...although i think it will get better once i play with 4 players. Its fast and really hard...( yeah io know i already siad that ) There are items always flying all over the place..and baby park rules.

The music is quite forgetable. The only tune I've memorized is the one from Luigi Circuit, Mario Circuit. You know, the whistling tune.

And BLOODY HELL, did the Kmart sale INCLUDE games??? Where else was it sold for cheap?

What about the piano music between rounds in MK 64, eh? I still can't get it out of head! But no one will tell me if it's been remade for MK: DD

Nope, no piano music.
You get happy boring mish mash music if you place 1st-3rd and a cool little depressed whistling tune if you place 4th-DEAD LAST.

I got it from EB, Jayman. Price matched Big W ($88)

team wario drive a pimpmobile. nuff said.

the track design is absolutely awsome in this game, Donkey Kong's Mountain and Yoshi's Track stand out the most thus far, the characters are just that, characters they all (well the one's that can speak) say entertaining things as things happen around them or they cause things, baby mario has a cute broombroom! wario and waluigi have awsome WAAAAHEHEHEHEHHGH as you would expect (my favorite team at the moment ) the AI is a bit disapointing the way they cheat, like the n64 version, but i guess ultimately it will be awsome for multiplayer. sadly i haven't enjoyed this faccet yet.... yet...

I think the review was very fair and clearly explained their reasoning much better than IGN did.

In lan play

"The most irksome restriction is that you're unable to pick which characters or kart you'll be using in the game--they are instead assigned to you randomly."

now whos bright idea was that? did no one at NIN think that this was a horrible idea?
