Gawd, that really sucks. That game is so freeking awesome man. I've been playing it every day since release. And even held a number one top time non-snaking spot on it! But this isn't the F-zero thread, sooo...

Could someone mention the DD US release date again?

Seriously that review can suck my balls, your right i bet they did it for attention. *deletes IGN from favourites*

Same score as Mario Party 5 btw. I expect a 5 for 1080 and maybe a 6 for Metroid Prime 2 from these assholes.

Does anyone here know if it keeps the piano music that was at the end of each race in MK 64, when your overall position was shown?

ARGH! I've never been so mad at a site. I might believe them if I'd read anything even vaguely similar from anyone else, but I haven't. Everyone universally loves the game. Fran didn't even bother to talk about whether it is fun or not. Just a bunch of crap about wanting costumes and unlockables. Then they top it off with "the game is good for children." They sound like a bunch of whino's fighting about how they're too good and to mature to enjoy Mario games anymore. We got unlockables. We got new battle modes. We got innovation, and tighter control, better graphics. Enjoy it for once you bastards. And it all happens in the same week they give GTA:Rerelease a 9.6 for adding individual fingers and rearranging the controls for a different controller.

I've made it before, but I think I'm serious now about making the vow never to visit again. They can post all the reviews they want about how there are no GC fans out there, and how we're dumb and we suck. I'm not going back. and I'm taking Fran off my list of good critics. Take that bastard.

i didnt read anything in this thread, but i went through the whole 600+ post count in the IGN Insider forum about Fran's review.

I'll just say that I thought the review was very unprofessional and showed a lot of bias and overexpecations.  Points were being deducted for not having enough trinkets and such.  Later on, the editors said that they felt the game had no lasting appeal.  They got bored of it (but they also mentioned they had been playing MK64 very frequently).  So in essence, the score you see reflects more of the improvements that MKDD made on MK64.  If the game had received a review from a person who never played MK64 before, I'm sure the review would have rated higher.  After all, IGN-n64 gave MK64 only a 8.1/10 and it's heralded as one of Nintendo's platinum games.

Unfortunately, I'm still going to go to IGN because of the quicktime videos of new games, but I probably wont renew my subscription unless it's down to 19.99 again.

IGN complains that the game is in some ways simplistic, while stating the complexity of the dual riders for strategy.

Complains about the lack of the hop even though it admits that the carts are heavier.

Complains about the lack of skins and costumes even while talking about the interesting new Kart sizes and multiple karts for each size.

Complain about the lack of unlockables while admitting that new characters and maps are available.

They complain about the two players controlling one kart while forgetting that that is how real tandem racing works.
Heres and exact quote from them:

Quote

Double Dash!! is one of the most vivid, coloring-book bright titles we've seen on GameCube yet. You won't find any other title in the world that looks like it.

And then they go on to complain about how it doesn't look so great:

Quote

Double Dash!! only gets the job done. It's nothing to go drooling over or to prove to your friends that GameCube can perform technically, but it's also very easy on the eyes. It suffices.

Does that make sense to anyone?  Isn't theat a contradiction?

It seems that a big gripe with them is the fact that their isn't any online play this is why I think they knocked the game down, they just wanted to play it online.  It also seems to be a bash against it being too colorful and family-oriented, too much like a saturday morning cartoon...What are they smoking?!?  Its a Mario game of course it looks like that!

What bugs me about the "Lack of Online Games" BS thrown about is that it never seems to affect other games.  GTAs and FFs and Jak 2's and numerous other titles get rated high without Online capabilites.  Now with Mario Kart it suddenly becomes important?

I think my past posts have shown this,  but this is the last time I say it, because I honestly am disgusted with the unprofessional attention-seeking rabble rousing "Disgruntled fan" Mattei-style garbage IGN spouts on a near constant basis.  IGN IS A SHAM.  Insider is worthless.  You pay for fanboy rants and obvious articles.  As in, you pay them for things you either already know or could easily deduce yourself.

God and St. Christopher as my witness, that is the last IGN page I will ever look at under my own power.

I'm hoping someone could convince me otherwise, cuz it sounded too early-90s-Nickelodeonish for its own good.  Luigi's Raceway from Mario Kart64 rocked (even being the first racetrack music most people would hear, it was upbeat and catchy), but this latest track in the demo was one of the most boring(stupid?) tracks I've heard in the entire Mario family of games, outside of Mario Party.
