Slacking in the Survival Horror area...

Sure GCN has great SH titles like Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0 and the upcoming Resident Evil 4...
but what about the other SH games? I meen...the other RE releases were nothing but reprints of the original PSone and Dreamcast versions. And there are alot of survival horror games out there, like:
   *Alone in the dark (5 games)
   *Devil May Cry (2 games - exlusive to PS2)
   *Dino Crisis (3 games)
   *Evil Dead (2 games)
   *Nightmare Creatures
   *Onimusha (3 games - exclusive to PS2) ...yes Onimusha counts...
   *Parasite Eve (2 games - exclusive to PSone)
   *Silen Hill (3 games - exclusive to PSone & 2)
   *The Thing (On all systems...except GCN)
   *Clocktower
   *Resident Evil (Alotta' games...most systems...no complaints here)
   *Eternal Darkness (Yah. Somethin' else sorta-close to being scary...on the cube.)

Now out of all those titles...I haven't seen any sequels released on the GCN...and with all these
companies dropping nintendo...I'm afraid we may never get these games...

#1 your comparing last generation games to the GCn

#2 what Horror games this generation has scored Higher that ED?? devil may cry is Not a survival horror game

#3 what great Horror games this year and this generation will be greater than RE4?
even if you compare the games On x-box and ps2 this generation GCn comes out scoreing higher. How did dino crisis 3 do On x-box? how did the thing do? did they sell a million copies like RE0 did No!!! GCN Rules Horror this generation No if ands or buts about it.
#4 what survival horror Game even looks better that RE:make this generation?

Evil Dead? You want those terrible games? DMC is not survival horror either. Just get a PS2.

PS2 gets DMC GCN gets RE. If GCN never got RE DMC would have been RE. Although totally different games. The only other game series I want is Silent Hill.

There hasn't been a new Nightmare Creatures on any of the current systems. The original (and maybe the sequel, I don't know) was on the Nintendo 64, along with the PlayStation. The first Evil Dead game was rubbish, the new one on PS2/Xbox is not a horror game. Devil May Cry is about as scary as buying a loaf of bread (although I spose that could be scary).

As for Silent Hill, well.. Yeah. I love the Silent Hill games, and it is a tad odd that Konami ignore the GC everytime, especially seeing as they know horror game fans would own a GC already for the exclusive RE's. But hey, it's Konami..
If anything, I'd like to see Capcom port over Gregory Horror Show to GameCube. It's great fun on PS2, but it just seems like a game that'd get more love if it were on GameCube.

we have the Eternal Darkness line of games, so i don't know what you're worrying about, oh shi wate. Nintendo was too kiddy for SK hay d00ders

also, not being a fan of survival horror games i really have no idea what the above titles are like, but more Konami love would be nice.

Actually...I would like to see a Silent Hill and maybe even a Dino Crisis game on the Cube.

I would loooove a game that has nothing to do with zombies or stupid things that wonder around like zombies. What about something like fatal frame? I'd love to see something like that done more often. Something more in the realm of "I KNOW it's there, because I can hear it, and it's getting louder, but I can't SEE it! WTF IS that?!"

I completely agree with you. The mindless zombies really ruined Eternal Darkness for me. I'd be wondering around in an atmospheric mansion or church, looking at the great amount of detail and generally being very creeped out... and then I'd see a zombie. I'd run up to it, slash it head off. Suddenly, I realize it's just a game, and my livelihood only depends on my thumb's proximity to the 'hack' button.

On the other hand, some of the insanity effects were very creepy. Blood dripping from the walls, strange voices... as long as it's subtle, it works. When I come into a room and my limbs start falling off, however, I simply sigh and wait for the effect to end.

Subtle is boring...I like my Sanity effects to slap me across the face, a la turning off my TV, etc...

Hey yeah, I'm with the Bill on that. The particular effect he mentioned really tricked m the first time, as it happened when my insanity meter wasn't particularly low......WHATEV

I don't play many survival horrors simply because I have parents who won't let me buy a RE game. ;__; of course, I'd be too chicken to play. =P Metroid prime scares me more than ED, surprisingly. (MP scares me to the point where i just won't play it anymore. I don't play ED anymore cause I'm at a hard part.) So I haven't played any of those games, and I don't really care.

Pikmin is a survival horror game.

Oh yes, there is much horror and surviving in Pikmin.

Of course ED had inadequate zombies, cuz it's not a survival horror game, it's a barbecue. It's about chopping limbs off everything like the sick beings we are, and looking for the next door to open. There was hardly any trouble surviving in the first place.

See, Chris Redfield had that pathetic survival knife, not to mention the sheathed knife that was stuck on his vest that he or any player never figured out to use. As it turns out, the knife is not very good at dismembering zombies, so Chrissy boy really did have to do some work to survive, which is why it's probably called a survival knife in the first place. On the other hand, every melee weapon in ED was great for turning monsters into grocery store meat. So generally your character had a higher combat potential than the monsters, unlike Chris who's a wuss. Your ED characters didn't need to survive the monsters so much as the monsters had to survive YOU! Given ED's story with the opposing sides/alignments of monsters, this makes some sense since you set out to destroy them.

ED would have been better as some horror game if you truly gave the experience a Stephen Kig novel feel and just deal with some demon power influence. The fact where all you had to do was keep your sanity up kinda ruined in a way what the developers truly wanted us to experience. I don't call ED survival horror I call it psychological thriller just like SK said it would be.

I wish there were more games like Soul Reaver and Castlevania on the cube. Castlevania on the N64 was a nice kind of horror I liked more than RE in a way and Soul Reaver was just awesome.

Draygaia: Well, they didn't try to emulate King, they tried to go for Lovecraft. I've read a Lovecraft-based book once, the most annoying part was that whenever anything interesting happened, the main character suddently couldn't move or was for some other reason unable to act. Granted, that might be the style of the writer (who was not Lovecraft) but it was f###ing annoying, kind of like a Final Fantasy game.

If survival horror really requires the player to be weaker than his enemies, then count me out. I hate it when I have to escape from normal enemies, I want to be able to take 'em out. Preferrably permanently.

I actually loved Castlevania 64 way back when it first came out. I thought it was a great 3d interpretation of a great 2d game, and it was kind of creepy. It should have been done again and improved upon (I thought the second one sucked).

That was the writer, not Lovecraft- I've read nearly every Lovecraft story published and the best way to describe his is a modern Edgar Allen Poe. They both have extremely similar writing style and write about the same kind of events with similar characters. Lovecraft incorporates more science fiction into his stories, though- his writing is classified more as "cosmic horror", which they just made up to suit him.

Seriously, though, anyone who liked Eternal Darkness needs to read as much Lovecraft as possible, especially the ones taking place in the Cthulhu mythos (nearly all have a reference, albeit a scant one, to it).
