Next Nintendo Direct To Air September 12
« on: September 10, 2025, 04:48:00 AM »

Been a while since we had one of these on a Friday.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/72410/next-nintendo-direct-to-air-september-12

Nintendo is ready to bring us news Directly again.

A Nintendo Direct has appeared in the Nintendo Today app that will air on Friday (September 12) at 9 a.m. ET, 6 a.m. PT, 1300 UTC, and 10:30 in Newfoundland. The length and scope are currently unknown.

A Direct on a Friday is unusual for Nintendo, but the timing does put it to midnight on September 13 in Japan, which would be the exact 40th anniversary of the release of Super Mario Bros.

UPDATE 9:05am ET: The Direct page is now live and the description indicates "60 minutes on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games".

You have to imagine this is Prime 4's last chance to be a 2025 game.

As for anything else they could show, I don't care about Pokemon anymore and I'm somewhat ambivalent about the usual faces that could show up here. Switch 2 is my Switch 1 machine with better performance so far.

So the rumours were true  :o
I would like a release date for Metroid Prime 4 as that is my next Switch 2 game as of now.
I would also be stoked to hear about a new Fire Emblem.

If we don't get a release date for Metroid Prime 4 this time I'm going to... well I guess I won't not buy the game because my whole reason for caring is from wanting to play it.  And I'm not going to stop buying Switch 1 games.  I could refuse to buy a Switch 2 but I'm sort of already doing that, not really out of a principle but just a lack of justification for the price tag.

Okay, so there is really nothing I'm willing to do to Nintendo.  But I'll be very mad and will badmouth them on the internet, uh, so there!

I've found myself in an interesting position since Bananza was announced. I've been waiting so many years for a 3D DK follow up, it has been my number 1 wish since the last days of Space World, E3 and since Directs began. Ridley in Smash was another one of my Jr High wishes finally come true.

So with that said, I just find myself not caring quite as much when Directs get announced. Don't get me wrong, I'm there minute one during every stream but I am coasting on fulfilled dreams right now.

I could go for some Bananza Downloadable Kongtent. But the game is still so fresh I really could wait a good while for that.

I suppose my biggest wishes now are Dixie Kong in Smash, Sonic getting its act together, Star Fox getting its act together, F-Zero, 3rd person Metroid and 3D Yoshi.

I know im going to love Zelda, Prime and Mario. Can't wait to see them but they've never felt like straight up winning the lottery when they come around.

Anyone else find themselves in an odd state of contentment?

@IANSANE - You don’t want to try Donkey Kong? Or have you yet? It’s such a good game and while I don’t know your tastes any longer I think you would absolutely love it. Phooey on that 8.5! That game is a solid 9.99999999 all the way around! And I don’t just say this as Donkey Kong nutcase, it is really a great game!

It looks like a great game but getting a Switch 2 and a copy of the game would cost me $730 CAD.  With the Switch 1 still getting lots of support and the Switch 2 lineup being pretty thin I can't justify that price.  I need multiple games that I can't get on the Switch 1 and a price cut for both the system and games in my country would help a lot too.  I might need a stronger Canadian dollar to get the second part.

I like these Nintendo Directs, but I’m not buying any of those games on release day. Still nice to see new games.

For this holiday season, I’m kind of just hoping for a sale of both Breath of the Rain and Tears of the Kingdom so I can take advantage of the improved Switch 2 performance.

For first party Nintendo games, usually like 20% on eShop then whatever you can get at other stores for physical games. The console price isn’t dropping though. After eight and a half years, Nintendo Switch 1 is still rocking its launch price which is wild.

PS5 just got another price hike so I’m probably out on that. Help me, Valve Fremont. You’re my only hope.

EDIT: LOL, I spelled “Fremont” wrong. 🤦‍♀️

At an hour long this is the largest Nintendo Direct in history.  Even though the Switch 2 reveal was also an hour, they spent about 10 minutes of that one talking about the hardware.  I doubt they'll be talking about the hardware in this one, so that means we're getting an hour of nothing but games.  Makes all the complaining about the Partner Direct from over a month ago look sillier than it was at the time.  Especially when that Partner Direct was already meatier than most Partner Directs from years earlier.  And now look at that, we're getting a General Direct which is quite a bit meatier than the average General Directs during the Switch 1 era.

It just shows how many people have terrible memories for anything past a year.  All these treads across the internet and YouTubers rating the first few months and acting like the Switch 2 support is in trouble, when in actual reality this is the strongest support a new Nintendo system has ever had by lightyears.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store.  We usually get at least one big announcement for a game that's at least a year away.  Since Donkey Kong was just released I doubt we'll see the next 3D Mario, and it's too early for Zelda.  Even though Sakurai is working on Kirby Air Ride, I do wonder if there's a second team at Bandai Namco doing Smash Bros right now so maybe well could get a trailer for that.  It's been 3 years since Xenoblade 3 so maybe we might get a trailer for Xenoblade 4.  It's also been 3 years since Bayonetta 3, so maybe a Banyonetta 4 trailer could be possible.

Oh yeah and we're 100% getting Prime 4's release date.  Nintendo wouldn't have said the game is still 2025 release date earlier this year if it was getting delayed far out into 2026.  During the Switch era they've been very careful about when they announce release dates and we even know about several games being done almost a year in advance that they sat on to release at the right time.  Worse case scenario is maybe it's February or March of 2026 because they feel the 2025 holiday is getting too crowded, but we're very very close.

Yeah, I'd say so. With MP4 footage shown and the game soon releasing along with the hype of a 3D Donkey Kong game for Switch 2, those are a couple long time game wishes being fulfilled. At this point, the only dream request would be a fully realized sequel to F-Zero GX and its 3D racing world. And yet, I'm not losing any sleep over it or pining that hard about it.

I agree it isn't that winning lottery feeling of like, say, a new Chibi-Robo game in the style of its GC debut but a new 3D Mario game is probably the top of my wishlist right now. Odyssey was about 8 years ago so it's been a while. Yeah, there was the Bowser's Fury mode when they released 3D World which also disappointed me in being bundled with a game I'd beat thoroughly on Wii U so still have yet to get it. I just have a hard time considering that as an offering comparable to Odyssey. So, at this point, I'd definitely welcome a new 3D platformer as I consider it to be currently the longest gap in-between Mario 3D platformers.

I don't think I would describe it as "contentment", but I bought the Switch 2 to play my neglected Switch 1 games with the performance they should have had on Switch 1, and so far that's what I've gotten. Apparently even Deadly Premonition 2 is actually in a playable state now.

My Switch 2 is my secondary console. While yes I do want Nintendo to step up in terms of exclusives, I do have probably years of Switch 1 baclog to get through while I wait.

Well this wasn't really worth getting up at 6AM for.  We got the Metroid date and it's this year so that's good!

Switch 1 is still getting a lot of stuff but I can't really think of anything from this Direct that wasn't already announced that I can see picking up.  On the Switch 2 side, there's some interesting stuff.  I haven't gotten into the Fire Emblem series yet but I know it has a strong fanbase.  Monter Hunter Stories 3 looks interesting to me.  Neither of those would convince me to get a Switch 2 though.  Even in regards to the ports I wanted on a Switch 2, we're still not getting them.  I figured we would see games like Metaphor: Refantasio and Visons of Mana - like all the stuff that skipped the Switch 1 but still made the PS4, but they haven't shown up.

Something I really don't like about the format of these things is that they'll show a trailer and then a Nintendo guy will explain the very thing you just saw.  Don't bother with that.  It just drags the presentation on.

They could have easily cut a half hour from this Direct and missed nothing.

Really concerned about seeing ANOTHER generic open world from Nintendo with Prime 4.

Fatal Frame 2 gets yet another remake.

Danganronpa 2 gets a remake...why?

Jumping to Galaxy already with the Mario movie sequel feels like creative desperation.

The new Yoshi looks cool.

That bored Mii in the Tamadochi Life trailer sums up my thoughts on this Direct.

Yeah, that Danganronpa 2 remake was rather strange.  That game is already available on the Switch and by extension Switch 2.  And if they're going to remake the series why wouldn't they start with the first one?

I don't get it, because Danganronpa 2 makes somehow even less sense if you haven't played the 1st game.

That was one of the most content packed directs filled with one of the largest variety of Nintendo published games.  The fact that many people are acting like nothing was shown, has just once again shown how badly the internet has rotted the minds of many gamers.

Over 10 years ago we would have been lucky to even see half the number of games in a single direct, and most Switch era Directs didn't have this many games.  Yeah at this point I need to stop even lurking message boards because there's nothing worth reading.  It's nice to see a few reasonable people try to talk sense, but they sadly get drowned out by the never ending wave of cynical assholes who'll never be satisfied, or just blatant trolls that have nothing better to do with their lives.

The Nintendo Direct was fine.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was an interesting choice. The post-credits scene in the first one teased Yoshi then the inspiration for the second movie is [checks notes] a game that didn’t even include the character. Granted, Super Mario Galaxy 2 did feature Yoshi. My preference would have been to see more of the Mushroom Kingdom and neighboring lands. The plots of the games aren’t that deep so the writers are largely making stuff up anyway. I didn’t think they needed to pull the space card yet. Not a big deal either way. The first one was good so I’ll watch the sequel.

The focus on multiplayer for the Meetup in Bellabel Park expansion was off-putting given I played Super Mario Bros. Wonder entirely solo. Nintendo hinted at more actual stages which is what I banking on. I don’t have enough information at the moment to have an opinion on this. Super Mario Bros. Wonder was so good, a sequel or expansion with new stages was all I wanted. And it’s one of the few games I’ll double dip to have a digital copy for the faster internal memory/micro SD card express loading. I’m kind of kicking myself for not making the switch to digital sooner, knowing I was planning on doing so with Nintendo Switch 2.

Samus zooming around in that Tron Light Cycle had me thinking that was a spinoff at first. It’s nice that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond got a release date, and Nintendo managed to squeeze it into 2025. It suspect the Amiibo is going to be m-f-ing annoying to actually get.

Resident Evil Requiem releasing day and date with the other platforms is getting tons of fanfare yet still feels like it’s being undersold. It’s a really, really huge deal. Here’s a major third party game getting a simultaneous release on Nintendo Switch 2. We didn’t get a ton of those on OG Switch, right? You may have to fact-check me on that, Luigi Dude in particular. Hopefully, Nintendo Switch 2 performance is solid (predicting 30 FPS). This may still be a Valve Fremont game for ol’ Adrock.

May I ask what internet hoods you’re inhabiting these days? Mostly just curious. Who TF are these people? Are they the type who will never be happy?

I was browsing a rather huge thread earlier, and the reactions seemed largely neutral to positive, leaning on positive. Anecdotally, unless there was literally nothing for me in the entire Nintendo Direct, my opinions generally lean positive as well.
