"Well don't f**king shoot me!"

Hehe, I heard that one before, but that was like half thier team. WTF do they expect you to do. Act like a scarecrow?

But yeah it is too impersonal and lag is always a problem. I love LAN but that has it's own disadvantages in terms of the hassle to get everbody togeather etc.

LAN places are cool if you shop around. If I was you when you walked into that shop I would be grinning. Next thing I would be thinking would be "Fresh Meat". The kids can trash talk all they want but keep to yourself and have friends with you that can play well and your set.

Isnt there usually an age limit to these things? =P

Anyway, I want LAN gaming to work. I'm sure this is kinda what Nintendo wanted all along. But I hope tey can have it where you and a friend can duke it out against other people =)

Lets hope that future FPS games like TS2 will get the lan treatment. Or maybe we can hope for Time Splitters Multiplayer for the GCN only =P

there is a LAN place here (it's the nly 1 here and it's new), and the people there CAN be annoying, but usually it's me, 1-3 of my friends, my brother, and 2-5 of his friends, so it works out ok  Plus I can always play online there with a super fast internet...

Being able to play online games is the cats ass, and you all know it.  Know matter how good a computers AI is it cannot compare to playing against real human opponents.  That is just the long and short of it.

Nintendo

Can you hear me?

Give me online gaming

Give me online gaming now.

Connectivity is not the answer.

Give me a reason to buy that online adapter

Why the hell did they even release that thing?

I fell cheap and used by Nintendo marketing, "sure the GC can go online, just we won't make any games for it."  Evil.

Need more beer, bye.

When I think about online gaming, it makes me think I should have gotten an Xbox instead of a PS2. Then I go play Vice City and I'm happy again. I really could careless if the GameCube was online. My GC is for personal entertainment, if I want to go online I have a computer, and the only games I play online is StarCraft with friends. If Nintendo goes online, cool but I doubt it this late in the race.
Temptation why wont you leave me alone?

So you want GC to go online? Because thats what you said. If you dont really care if GC goes online then you should have said "couldn't". Sorry, this common misconception just really annoys me.

actually if he says he could care less that means... he doesn't care
think about it, he could, meaning he does or will
and care less, meaning he doesn't care

but if he says he couldn't care less that means either he doesn't care

The only way for Nintendo to have any success online is to offer the service for free or for cheap (though it's killing Microsoft to host all those servers at their low price point). Either of those plans would move lots of software, but it wouldn't be enough to compensate for server costs. So Nintendo could go the other route and charge a fairly high fee, and watch their software sales plummet. Kids don't have the cash for online, and adults aren't keen on yet another bill to pay monthly. It's pretty much a lose-lose situation.

If Nintendo saw the long-term success of online gaming, I'm sure they'd take a loss now to hop on the bandwagon. The reality is, though, that no one knows for sure if online is "the future." Despite the constant crowing of the online revolution by gamers on message boards, these peeps make up only a fraction of the whole market. As long as Joe Donut who buys a couple of games a year doesn't give a damn (or doesn't know about) online gaming, it's a waste of money. Until casual gamers are on board, online gaming on consoles is just another minor feature that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but does take a large chunk of change out of Sony's and Microsoft's pockets.

On that note...does anyone know if EA's making money off their online games? I think they've got all their sports titles online on the PS2, for free. I'm wondering if this is actually profitable for them.
