(I'm not sure which forum this would go in, but I'll let the moderators decide)

Imagine if you could create your own games? What would it be like? How long would it be? 2D or 3D? FPS? RPG? Would it be original? Would it be a sequal? Prequel? Would it be multiplayer (if possible)? Would it be LAN? Online? Adventure? Action? Mystery? Horror?

The possibilities are endless, but I've always been fascinated by new and innovative games, and I'd like to see how imaginitive the readers here can be.

Maybe we can even create our own game and submit it to Nintnedo, lol. I'll be posting up my own original idea up soon. But I'm all ears for what you guys can think of.

(Just pretend you have no cost limit, etc. But do try to act realistic to the fact that this game could be made onto one CD, etc.)

I'd make a game featuring a half man, half donkey. His name would be Jed-Face Cat.

The game would be 3D, but 2D type gameplay. You'd be stuck in giant jars, because in the intro movie, it shows Jed developing giant jars out of telephone wires and bits of frozen urine. The jars come alive and demand printer ink.

Jed has none. They take turns eating him.

BEGIN.
You're in the jar, bits of lollies and food are tossed in, you have to collect them and do a dance. This is where you need a DDR dance mat. The screen then shakes, and ghosts appear. You have to dance and mash the B button on the pad.

Completing that will make a car drop on screen, destroying the jar. Jed is free. But another comes along and eats him. Repeat. But WOAH! The old tactics don't work.

This time you'll need to tip your GC upside down. It'll then give you a time limit to go run a bath. DO IT! WIN!
Jed will do a backflip and eat jelly beans. These turn him into Super Jed VII. He'll be mean, have a gun, and a talking comical jeep.

You'll now have a racing level, you have to shoot beans from toad stools as you race along bits of straw.

Keep in mind, this is all work in progress. Nothing's final, but I bet 3D0 will be delighted with this game. I'll have $35!

I have tons of ideas.  Most of them are really simple concepts that realistically could never be made into a full game but I have some bigger ones.  I have some ideas for the ultimate wrestling game and I've always wanted to make a Legend of Zelda RPG.  However I can really only think of gameplay concepts so I would have to work with someone else for character design and story.

I also have ideas for a survival horror game, racing game, and fighting game all with some very unique ideas.

I would have a Legend of Zelda game where two males are born to a Gerudo female. An old woman walks out of the Haunted wasteland and prophesizes that if they both lived, the Gerudo would be destroyed, however, if one is sacrificed then the Gerudo will become stronger than ever before. The lighter of the two, who has a more red-gold hair, is thrown from the waterfall to his death. this baby is Link. he is saved by a young boy and his friend who were swimming in the river upstream of lake Hylia.  The boy takes Link home to his parents.

I guess the game starts with adult Link's foster parents and brother getting killed one evening by a raid of gerudo thieves, led by a male Gerudo who had his face veiled. An arrow takes Link in the ribs, and the male leans over Link and unveils, saying something along the lines of "The prophecy has been fulfilled, br..." (but not with such a crappy script) Link blacks out before his words complete, but notices a striking resemblance between himself and the Gerudo male. (again, no crappy script like mine...and voice acting would be well done)

Link is brought in by an older man who noticed him lying there, and he is bandaged up and healed. The man hears Link's story and teaches him to fight with a sword, shoot a bow, and fight with a staff. you must actually learn and fight the man to master the weapons, but all the weapons are pretty crappy, and you don’t even get to keep the staff, plus the bow only shoots about 20 yards. (that leaves room for the acquirement of weapons from the different races later on, such as a good fairy bow, the Master Sword, a War Horse, and the Staff of Ages, which was thrust into the highest mountain in Hyrule in Ages long past.)

here's the part that I like, however.. Link believes throughout the beginning of the game that his mother was captured by Gerudo thieves when he was little and is still a prisoner (the player would think this also.. so I guess I gave away the game's secrets in the first two paragraphs). So finally Link walks into the Gerudo valley to recover his mother. [cut scene] the first guard attacks Link and he just clocks her in the face and then picks up her staff and smacks the other one [cut scene over]

since the alarm had already been sounded, however, Gerudo pour into the area and Link has to fight them all, like in Shenmue... but you would be able to use the staff for precise attacks like stab, swipe from one direction to another, and more, so that you were in more control of the staff and could take out two or three guards in one swipe.

[ I thought of this game a long time ago, but then I started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books and started relating the Gerudo to the Aiel, but with longer spears. I really like Mat Cauthon's bladed spear, so that is also inspiration for the Gerudo fight. Notice, the burly brawl did not inspire me, though it rocked. ]

of course, I really have only the beginning and ending in place, unless maybe the attempt to find Link's mother is just the beginning, and Link finds out everything about his past.. and then the gerudo start to leave the valley in order to take over all of Hyrule (now we are talking a GameCube game or GC2 game, so this world is huge, with more cities in Hyrule field, and Lon Lon Ranch wouldn't be there, but a whole village of horse breeders instead (sort of like Rohan). Link's quest would be to unify the rest of the races of Hyrule to confront the massive Gerudo Army. The final battle would be humongous, and you would have to fight your way through the hordes of enemies to reach the Gerudo leader, who is pretty much Dark Link. That fight would end in a traditional duel, with no magic or anything like that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now as I wrote this here I thought of maybe having  3 children born, all three brothers and the same scenario, where if all three live, the Gerudo would be destroyed. One would be gannondorf and the other two are Link and Dark Link. The two Links are outcast, with the good Link being thrown into the river, and Dark Link is ridden to the haunted wasteland and left to die. Dark Link is saved by a young woman wandering the wasteland (the desert goddess) and wanders the wasteland trying to find a way out. He eventually does, but he ends up in a smaller village of Gerudo, who were never known about. They become Dark Link's army as he wishes to get back to the Gerudo Valley, where the desert goddess told him that he must go (she was the old woman with the prophecy). So when Good Link makes it through the guards and goes to save his mother (you have to do some rooftop acrobatics to get there, maybe with Prince of Persia: sands of time kind of jumps and  Sidling on walls to avoid being notice) he finds a window to see the great hall and from there he sees an aging gerudo female sitting next to the male leader, Gannondorf, who looks somewhat like Link, and is not as big as the other games. The door to the great hall then bursts open and a group of gerudo crash into the great hall along with a male, who Link thinks he recognizes from the night that his family was slain. This Dark Link and Gannondorf duel in a really nice fight sequence, and finally Gannondorf is knocked down to his knees. Dark Link tilts Gannondorf’s head back and thrusts his spear into Gannondorf’s throat. [either gannondorf dies or maybe Dark link would have him chained up to a pole and left in the haunted wasteland] And declares himself to be the new king of the Gerudo. Link eventually sneaks over to the woman that was sitting next to gannondorf and find out that she is his mother, and then he finds out his past, and what his being alive means to the Gerudo. So she tries to kill Link with a dagger, but he simply throws it aside and leaves as another alarm is sounded. The bridge is heavily guarded, so Link wanders into the wasteland to start his journey by seeking the Staff of Ages.

Now, I might have Gannondorf resurrected somehow, [or freed from the pole in the haunted wasteland, and gain hold of the triforce of power] and then he would be part of the major battle at the end of the game, with his dark minions on horses and moblins as infantry. Dark Link would of course have the Gerudo, and Good Link would have the rohirrim like people that I mentioned earlier as well as support from the great princess Zelda and even Gorons and maybe some Zoras and a group of Kokiri archers. If Kokiri die after leaving the forest, then that would make their commitment mean so much more, since they are giving up their eternal youth to help fight a war that might not affect them. Of course,  maybe the Kokiri wouldn’t fight, I just don’t know.

So, that is a pretty quickly thrown together synopsis of my two possible Zelda titles.. Comments anyone? Criticism (lay it on big time, because I might get rid of the Zelda characters and just write a story about this whole thing, though I doubt it).. Which variation do you prefer?

i think mmorpg's should have legitimate economies... i dont know if the economy in Star Wars Galaxies is completely dependent on the players, and i imagine that anyone with this game is not going to be on the boards (i know i wouldn't)

but also i think in mmorpg's there should be a way to apply for a newspaper position, and then people could have a newspaper about stuff going on in the game, like a war report or (this i dea i really thought cool) a section where people could point out parts of the game that people cheat at, like near an enemy spawn location (i noticed this when my friend was playing star wars galaxies) adn then the "reporter" could take a photo and publish that article and when the game creators read it, if it was a major flaw, they could release a patch.

Stimutacs Addict, I think your idea for that Zelda game would be really cool, although it really wouldn't fit in with the zelda universe now.  It could be a prequel, however (although it is a known fact that OoT comes first).  I also thought that this would be a great idea for a zelda movie, because alot of the battles would look great on the big screen, but as a video game, they would lose a lot of....well...goodness.

Still, I love the idea.

yea i agree, the battle scenes would be hard to make as grand in a videogame, although Return of the King is going to have some big battles so we might get to see that done...

the Zelda timeline is all different now, i know, but i see this story as just another tale of an Age long forgotten, possibly taking place in a differently mapped out hyrule, but all that i had to go by was the map in Ocarina of Time. and the staff of ages i realized is a pretty weak name  but i came up with the name in a rush.. oh well

c'mon i know that everyone has had their dream game mapped out.. let's hear some more ideas people. I would like a true mystery/horror game. If i made one, I would not say anything about it until the game came out. If i were the project designer of Eternal Darkness, I would not have had a sanity meter and would not have mentioned the sanity effects to anyone. I also would have crammed the game full of sanity effects, even moreso than there are now (and there are plenty as is)... people would think the game was possessed if i made it. I would have the channel change to 666 and have some freaky sacrifice going on (okay, that's a bit over the top.. nobody gets channel 666 without a Satelite Dish or a Cable Box)
but i would include one of those crazy moments that would happen at the most intense part of the game.. and then i would have wispers behind you if you were playing with surround sound ( i don't have DPL2, was the game like that for you lucky ones?)
and have it sound like your telephone was ringing in the other room... and quick flashes of freaky things that are almost too quick to notice with your eyes.

anyways, if Eternal Darkness is anything to go by, Too Human will destroy all others. Let us pray that Too Human is perfected and ready for a GameCube 2 LAUNCH title... not a month after launch title, mind you.

Stimutacs you get that from Saturday Night Live? Anyway my custom game would be...hmm. It would be called War of the Middle Ages. You have the Nordak, Legia, and Redwar the 3 most powerful countries in the world all at war. Each team has 2,000 units on screen. You customize weapons and troops, and when your ready both teams will collide in a Braveheart style fight.

That and an FPS game where its actually realistic. Where if you get shot depending on where your shot is your damage. If you get shot in the head of course, you will die, unless you build up your miracle meter. The miracle meter will be build up as you kill other opponents in the game. For every 1 shot kill, your miracle meter will rise. Once full if you get shot in the head or anywhere causing a 1 hit kill, you have a 75% chance of survival. If you get shot in the leg or arm, you will walk with a limp etc etc.

Someone needs to develop a game with a big long talking purple female sex toy as the main character, too. Think of the excitement!

It'd be like a puzzle game, where you have to fit in various female's v*CENSORED* within the time limit.
Then you could *CENSORED* and well, you know.. *CENSORED* hahaha, after that, you'd hear lots of *CENSORED* and *CENSORED*

Soon enough, you'd arrive at the final boss and upon fitting in her *CENSORED* and *CENSORED* around and stuff, the game would come to a stunning climax.

I've got the perfect title, too.

*CENSORED* in *CENSORED* Land.

I'd have a 3D Mega Man action game that's unlike X7.  It'd be more like Mario Sunshine, Zelda:WW, and Metroid Prime, as its controls scheme borrows a lot from those three.

Point being, it's a 3rd-person platformer-shooter, with action that's actually fast.

something todo with pirates! possibly an RPG in the vein of baldurs gate/arcanum, mostly cause pirates are cool actually, mostly like arcanum, where you have alignment and various skills and such, so you can either walk the path of a vicious cut-throat or a dashing handsom corsair and anything inbetween

I typed my idea for a game, but the server was sh!t yesterday and despite trying to post it about six times it never worked.  And it was long, so I won't retype it.  I'll just say that your a character in paintings that span the lifetime of a particular artist, and what you manifest as changes from painting to painting.  Each painting is one or more level, and the perspective (First person, side scroller) would be based off of what the painting looked like.  One level might be a side scroller stickman fighting his way through an obstacle course wit simplistic monsters to fight.  Later, there might be a 3-D, FPS pop culture painting with 1930s gangsters.  Abstract art would be problem solving levels, and one or two levels might be imitation of old masters that the Artist did in school (I thought Van Gogh's Starry Night would be a cool level).  I have lots of ideas, but don't feel like explaining all of them.
Hell.  I basically retyped the whole thing.  Ah well.  Also, I have a cool idea for a Metroid game, but I don't feel like explaining it either.

Bye the bye, cool games, Infernal Monkey.

I really have to wonder you know...  Game programming is among one of the easiest forms of programming there is.  You don't really have to be all that good of a programmer, as game programming is by definition very simplistic in nature.  If your language is complex, your game won't run as fast.

I am just curious... some of you guys really have some good ideas for games.  I am willing to bet that some of you already have some of the art skills required to make art...

Why not pick up a programming book and put the idea to life?  A 2D game for the PC would probably only take a couple of months worth of learning to manage.  PC's these days are very fast, and even the most inefficient game programmed in Visual Basic would probably be playable.  It's definately worth a shot don't you think?

For a starting language, I would advise learning C.  I personally started with C++, and I find it to be a lot easier than C to work with, but people who started with C say that C is a much easier language, and it is faster in most cases, so take your pick.  Even Visual Basic would be good, because it's a simple language to learn.  However, it is slow, and might teach you some bad techniques.

Still, you all have your ideas.  Why not make them come to life?  It's seriously not as difficult as you might think.  If you need help, I can help you out with most of your problems too, as long as you talk to me in C/C++.  They are the only languages I am really comfortable with.  I am not a great programmer, but I can definately get by.

I probably should.  I need to learn at least one computer language in my lifetime.  And HTML doesn't count.  I'll do this. . . sometime.  Maybe after I finish learning French. Thanks for the suggestion, though.  I always thought stuff like that would be extremely complicated.

It can be complicated, but not if you are making a fairly simple game to teach yourself how it all works.  Tetris can be programmed in professional quality in a couple of hours, and even a total newbie programmer could probably figure it out.  It's often recommended as a first game as it uses all the elements of a real game, and is a great learning tool because of its simplicity.

Of course, if you start out with Doom III as your first project, you are going to fail.  Start small and work your way up.

Game programming only really gets complicated if you have to optimize the hell out of your game to make it run fast.  PC games shouldn't really have that problem unless you make some uber-detailed 3D stuff.

Becoming a liscensed Nintendo developer is VERY difficult.  Nintendo doesn't let just anyone make games for them, whether you have the money for a devkit or not.  (~10000 for official GCN devkit, ~3000 for offical GBA devkit)

It's best to start out with PC games and work your way up.

As you've pointed out that programming is not that hard... (I took VB in school for a year, and it was very easy). I think our school canceled teaching C++ and are just going to teach a crap load of java now. Although my main dream was to become a graphics artist. I've already experimented with the Unreal Tournament Level Editor, and have fooled around with 3DSMax and Maya at other people's houses (Damn, those programs are expensive).

But to get back on topic, I'd like to make several games [Horror, Strategy, Fighter/Adventure/Strategy]

Horror Story:  As you start the game, it hurls you into a GC logo, slowly smoking away into a FMV cut scene. *Cut Scene Starts*

A group of happy young kids are playing in their village (in the 1700's), as the dads take off to work, and the moms take care of the cabins. The night slowly crawls, as the village and its residents make way to go to sleep. As light falls and moon climbs, a legion of blood-thirsty-mentally-crazy-psychos raid the village sacrificing the residents (to their supernatural g-d). They are shown boiling the pool of blood and cooking the bodies as a nighttime feast (They don’t actually eat them all). After their feast, they burn down the village leaving it in ashes and ruins. No one escapes, and all are buried under the ruins of the village.
*Scene Ends*

*Once player starts game, another FMV begins*
Hundreds of years pass, revealing that industrial buildings have grown around that same area. They experiment with various intoxicants, but are unaware that these toxicants could have catastrophic outcomes. They dump the hazmats into a nearby dump (the actual location of the village destroyed); the remains of the village display as a ruined and unfertile area. The collection of toxic waste piles up and a horrible accident occurs. One day, a nighttime delivery truck (carrying fuel) crashes into the power plant, causing a large explosion to occur. The lights go out in the city. On top of that, the power plants radiation leaks into the atmosphere slowly making the place unlivable. The city evacuates most of its inhabitants, except for a few survivors in the power plant, which the city assumed were dead. There is only access to the city by a bridge, and the city decides to destroy it, preventing others from accidentally traveling into the city.
*FMV Ends*

*Camera zooms into a character*
The game slowly shows you a wrecked area, as they show a women waking up from a slight concussion. She is unsure what happened, but is shocked to see her work place (power plant) in ruins. The cut scene ends and the player is given control of the character to explore the city...

(I'll add more to the story and many spooks that I have thought about, but I have to run for now)
