GTAV sets all time one day sales record.

Game of the millennium, apparently - $800 Million on the first day. I will get it as soon as I know I'll have time to play it. Huge loss for Nintendo not getting in on the action.

Still reckon san andreas is better, apprently five is based in los santos only, while GTASA has that plus three other cities! only benefit is better graphics!(which i said earlier does not make a game!)

That is a ****-ton. Seriously, that's like 14 Million units. Even just shipping to retailers, that's still so damn many.

Now, is it confirmed that it WILL NOT be coming to a Nintendo system, or is that just speculated based on the fact that it didn't come out today with PS360 version?

Is it possible that it could come out later when the PC version is released? Maybe around Xmas?

Methinks PS360 is going to hang around for a year or two with the kind of bank they are pulling.

360 has already lasted 8, why can't PS3 last 10? Honestly it's games like this that show that next-gen really isn't necessary yet.

I remember hearing about this on the radio and the DJ was all "Now that's where the money is!  Got to get into the videogames!"  Yeah, got to get into the industry where everyone spends hundreds of millions of dollars in vain hope that they'll be one of the five or so games a year that's actually a big enough hit to justify such a budget!

A Wii U version later on would mean ****.  At best it would be nice for the small group of Wii U owners who don't own a PS3 or Xbox 360.  Everyone else who wants this will just buy it now for one of the other consoles.  In terms of hardware the Wii U is more like a very late competitor to the PS360 but it doesn't even get included in the multiplatform games for those consoles!  And it's supposed to compete with the PS4 and XB1?

We have the biggest first day sales for any game EVER and Nintendo is the only game hardware company not involved in any way at all.  The Wii U is competely irrelevant and Nintendo is thus irrelevant outside of handhelds.  Was playing up to the casuals for three years of fad success worth it?

It was totally worth it. The problem is that Nintendo didn't know how to properly build up a Eco-system and follow up. Plus going with the Wii Name was stupid despite the branding being somewhat strong. After five years the Wii Name became more known as to indicate an add-on than a main console. Beyond that and what can be considered franchise fatigue Nintendo has been hurt, the company.  While its true were going to see a new Halo/Uncharted next year the difference there is that both those stories have me as a gamer invested.

Another big issue with Nintendo's Wii U line up imo is the fact that they all seem to be franchises that have had similar entries on other systems pretty close. Others like in the case of Mario 3D world I want but would have rather wanted them as a 3DS game.

Following the Wii's reign Nintendo should have seriously used a part of its warchest to build more studios and invest more heavily in the HD market.

The thing about Nintendo is they went from a company that seemed to plan well ahead to a company that didn't. I used to be a Nintendo junkie, but i've been pretty clean for a couple years. I had my spot with pikmin3, but it was real short term relapse.

for this game Nintendo should have thrown a money hat out? Why? They would have made it back in licensing, and it would have set a precedent of gta games on Nintendo consoles.

or it would have not sold well and rockstar would be even less willing to work with Nintendo in the future.

but atleast we would have had the game.

we couldn't have less support from them in the future than we do right now.
nothing to lose in that aspect, might as well do what you can for the NOW and now worry about the LATER that may never come.

If Nintendo console owners got uncompromised versions of the big third party games on the exact same date as the other guys I see no reason why we wouldn't buy them.  We're always getting jerked around with later release dates and missing features or spinoffs instead of the real game.  How could we ever be enthusiastic about such a setup?  Would the Playstation or Xbox owners react differently if they were getting the same treatment?  And even one company breaking that mold wouldn't be enough because that whole routine impacts the console sales directly.  I don't own a Wii U largely because the third party support is terrible and one company playing ball wouldn't suddenly give me confidence in the situation.  Or even if you own multiple consoles if you're used to the Nintendo version being compromised why wouldn't you just immediately buy another version every time?  Sure the odd time the Nintendo version is just as good would fall through the cracks but what would that matter to the individual and how often does he figure to miss the BEST version by not paying attention?

How can you fix it?  Well Nintendo needs a console that doesn't have technological limitations that makes it hard to include it in multiplatform development or requires some compromise to get it to work.  Then they have to make sure that from launch there are uncompromised ports from multiple major third parties being released at the same time as the other versions so as to establish the trend and not confirm any pre-concieved bias that a Nintendo console will not get decent third party support.  They need capable hardware and, frankly, some key moneyhats during that first year.  Once they've established a userbase that third parties know will buy their games, moneyhats will not be necessary to attract support.

I'm surprised. I didn't realize this series was still a big deal. In my hazy memory, I thought GTA4 had turned out to be a disappointment for many and the enthusiasm for this series had waned. Then again, I've never played any of it and am indifferent to it so it is not something I pay much attention to.

Also, considering how GTA:Chinatown for the DS tanked, I highly doubt that Rockstar would ever see a Nintendo system as profitible.

GTA: Chinatown Wars was not what Nintendo fans wanted.  It's like how we rejected all the spin-offs made "for the Wii audience".  We didn't want GTA on the DS, we wanted the REAL GTA on the Wii.  We've been ignored by third parties for long enough that we don't want some scaled down side project.  That's garbage.  That's patronizing and treating us like we're not "real" gamers that deserve the same games.

If Rockstar wanted to sell GTA to Nintendo fans then we should have seen the GTA double pack on the Gamecube like the Xbox got.  We should have got GTAV on the Wii U.  I can't say the same for GTA4 because Nintendo fucked that up with the Wii's outdated hardware.  When have Nintendo fans ever been given a fair chance to indicate interest in the series?  We've never gotten anything resembling real support.  The whole thing is rigged.  I'll buy a "real" GTA console game on a Nintendo console released at essentially the same time as the other versions and NOTHING ELSE.

As for the enthusiasim towards GTAV, I think that trailer video where the narrator described all that cool ideas and details built up huge hype.  After watching that I thought to myself "this is the most ambitious game ever made".

That was just a vocal minority on the internet that was disappointed because it didn't live up to the insane hype they had in their minds.  Just like how must other major videogame series when they get a new installment have people online who complain about them because it didn't live up to their exceptions and then spend the next several years constantly complaining while the people who actually like the game move on to something else and don't care to keep arguing anymore and so it ends up looking like the game was hated because the haters are the only ones who are left talking about it.

But to the mainstream public who makes up most of GTA's sales, they liked GTAIV and so were excited for the sequel.  Even on the internet, most people liked GTAIV and so it's no surprise they bought the newest game as well.

I was one of the few people who gladly payed for GTA Chinatown Wars, and would have gladly payed big bucks for a GTA on the 3DS. However, Nintendo sees fit to try and not get these developers onto their consoles, and like the gaming industry as a whole, Take Two is very anemic to dealing with Nintendo. If there was one game I wanted on Wii U it was GTA V, but we can't all get what we want in this world?
