I hope this and FF:CC are going to be huge success, so there will be more exclusive RPGs from 3rd parties, and why not other genres.

This is my most anticipated game for GameCube. I hope it sells the 500, 000 copies in Japan that Namco wants it to.

I have never played a Tales game before but I love RPG's and blindly preordered this game back in may around the time E3 was going on and took advantage of free shipping.  I am also looking forward to Tales of Phantasia for the GBA.

Tales games are quite good nitsu.  I am sure that you won't be disappointed.  Gup, it should be able to sell at least 500,000 copies in Japan.  I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn't sell a million.

Good, traditional RPGs usually take atleast half a year to get localized. Besides, Xenosaga(also from Namco) took a full year so I ain't complaining about 7 to 8 months.

This game looks to a keeper for sure, but there's one thing bothering me.

What's up with the male character that looks like a girl?  I mean really, Mitos doesn't have a single masculine characteristic.  I can picture the circumstances.

Namco programmer:  Um sir?  We had a female character planned but decided to put in a male one instead, so we need a new character design.
Namco exec:  We don't have time to make a new character design.  Just use the one you have, no one will notice.

Its nice to see GCN finally getting some good exclusive RPG support. FF:CC and Tales should be pretty good. Hopefully they will sell well so that companies will continue to bring RPGs to Nintendo for the GCN and its successor.

So how does this play exactly? Do you get wonder around and get into random battles, then have a turn based set up (i.e. move people around, select weapons/magic) then attack in real time fighting, dodging etc. like you would in like Diablo II?

You can see enemies onscreen so you can avoid unneccessary battles. The battle system is the best(I've played ToD2 & ToP), it's all realtime and plays like a fighting game like Street Fighter II, but a lot faster. Your allies are computer controlled and are smart, they heal when you want them to or you can assign a shortcut and use their abilities when you want. Also, you can control any of the characters, not just the main guy.

Do the cutscenes in the game feature full anime video clips or something? Do we get another dvd with the tales game, that is strickly the movie. I'm asking becuase the lastest trailer over at cube-europe.com seems to have parts of the game that are actual animation, not pre-rendered cel-shading fmvs (i'm pretty sure its not).

That would be sweet. I am a fan of anime, though not a big fan, but I still enjoy a good story told through the artwork.

"Do the cutscenes in the game feature full anime video clips or something?"

yes they do- they have been doing this since the tales series appeared on the playstation- they are very nice
the animation in them is great and they help to put emphasis on important parts of the story
i think this game is on 2 disks and the reason for that are the anime cutscenes and the voice overs
personally i love the look of the game thus far and i cant wait to see some movies and pictures of the game in action when it finally releases in japan- i think it releases very soon- at the end of this month i think
i call the big one bitey.

well i dont know if this is correct yet but it seems like i have found the first reviews of tales of symphonia
they are from famitsu gc and dengeki gc
famitsu gc:  Tales of Symphonia (GC, Namco): 9 / 8 / 10 / 10 - (37/40)
dengeki gc:  Tales of Symphonia (GC, Namco): 9 / 10 / 9 / 10 - (38/40)
this all comes from www.gamefront.de so i dont know how reliable it is
i call the big one bitey.

rpglover: I take it that's Graphics/Sound/Control/Gameplay, or what?

I wonder... Are those videos real videos (i.e. DivX) or big sprites rendered with the hardware (Flash-style)? Because Anime is almost predestined for rendering in hardware...

If these scores are accurate, then this is very good news!

No way Namco would port it to GC.  That would take as much a 6 discs.
The Gamecube also plays divX movies, so it would be possible
