Wavedashing tech has nothing to do with why Brawl is the weakest of the series. Character balance and terrible design decisions like random slips do, though! Kill all casuals.
I only have a notebook sheet that my friend logged all of our time before resetting the memory card... and that was in the middle of the school year in 2006 with me over a week's time in. I could have it notorized

All the games have balancing. That's just the nature of a dynamic character roster. It's infinitely regressive to ask for balance because the ideal balance would be all the characters were exactly the same. Melee had much more balancing issues because of the exploits. Those were fixed in Brawl. In exchange, we have to endure prat falling (which is annoying, yes, but a danger we all deal with). I love Melee and Brawl wholeheartedly, but it's troubling that Melee players can't let go of Melee. This is because of general comfort zones and not wanting to adapt to a new style. If you try to play Brawl like you play Melee, you're going to be disappointed. It is a beautiful game that changes the focus to a more aerial and economic take on your tactics. The tier lists can change more because of it because the game demands creativity. Just a new way doesn't make it wrong or worse.
Either way, trying to make Smash like other fighters is a trap. It's not a fighter, it's smash. I do think third parties need more rep too. I'd love to see Megaman from the battle network series show.
