Modern Warfare 3 to the Wii
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:34:15 AM »
IGN is reporting that Activision confirms that the Wii is getting Modern Warfare 3.  No report of whether Activision is bringing MW2 to Wii first though.

I'm excited.  Black Ops for Wii wasn't bad. Neither was MW Reflex.

I seriously doubt it. I also don't understand why anyone would care anyway, because MW3 is basically the same exact game as MW2 only with different maps and minor tweaks here and there. Its all still the same guns and so on....

It's good news but Activision would port MW to a ham sandwich if they could figure out how to plug it in so this was pretty much a done deal already.

You'll be to blame when I'm eating COD with mustard on Rye.

I've always been curious to see how the Wii COD efforts stack up in terms of sales with the HD versions. It's a plus for us though.

I just want them to add a dive stab. That's it. Let me dive into someone with my knife. And when I'm prone, let me roll left and right.

Does any game let you do that? I'm picturing the screen rolling around as your character does... what if it glitches and it sticks upsidedown? Imagine trying to play that way, or cockeyed.

No clue, but I hate how slow you are when prone. I dive all the time and I wish I could shoot and stab while doing so. And once I'm on the ground, I wish I wasn't a sitting duck, is all.

I remember in WAW there was a glitch people would exploit when they would drop to prone while sprinting and it would cause them to slither around on their belly like a snake and it made it damn difficult to kill them. I think that is the reason why Treyarch put in the Dive To Prone feature in Black Ops, because now if you try to do that slithering snake maneuver you'll just dive to prone instead.... which is a cool feature and useful at times, like if you're capturing the flag and you're running towards the capture and you can dive into it like a baseball player sliding into home.

I'm not sure but I believe you could dive to prone towards an enemy and then knife them. It would be cool and look bad ass on the kill cam, but it would be a little tricky to pull off I'd think...

I don't think I'll be getting this one, unless it happens to garner a big following here on NWR. I just play these games for the online, and I'm kind of shooter'd out after The Conduit, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops. I haven't even opened Goldeneye yet.

I also don't understand why anyone would care anyway, because MW3 is basically the same exact game as MW2 only with different maps and minor tweaks here and there. Its all still the same guns and so on....

Chozo: I use the dive to jump into a hiding spot. I also use it to jump out from cover since you can turn mid-jump; it's especially useful when you know someone is around the corner.

If I could dive shoot someone, that means I could jump from cover and, like John Woo, blast while in mid-air. That could be very useful when jumping from cover to cover.

If I could dive stab someone, it would be epic. Plain and simple. Diving then stabbing doesn't cut it. I've done it during zombies and there's a down period after you dive where you can't do anything (roughly a second).

The ability to dive and shoot/stab and being more maneuverable while prone doesn't sound exploitable at all.

They should add the ability to run at full speed while spinning in circles with your knife hand outstretched in front of you.

Eh, kinda.... but its worse with the Modern Warfare series because they all use the same stuff repetitively. Black Ops is supposed to be set in the late 1960s so it has Vietnam era weaponry and killstreaks and maps, so in that sense it sets itself very much apart from every other COD game to date. But the modern warfare series is all set in the same era (modern) so it basically remains the same. The engine may get tweaked and some new features may be added, but its still the same period of time and the guns and everything aren't going to be changed much if at all.

There was a game on the PS3 (I assume 360 also) called WET which played kinda like what you are saying. You use guns and a sword and you can jump and roll and stuff and the kill enemies in mid air.

Not if you could only shoot one shell of shotgun and a few rounds of a gun. Plus, they could increase the time it takes to get back up if you do choose to dive stab/shoot.

There is a challenge in black ops called "Shards of Glory" that you get by diving to prone through a pane of glass and then killing an enemy. I didn't even know that challenge existed and I got it on accident one day.

So this game was released today and I picked it up, hoping to play it soon. However, I can't find $%&# all about the Wii version on the internet. No reviews. No impressions. Nothing. Has anyone played the Wii version? I'm interested to know whether it's going to be worth it before I tear the plastic off.

I don't have it, but if you're wondering how it compares content-wise to the other versions, I've heard of a couple of things in passing. Other than reduced graphics, the Wii version also...

- is missing a few killstreaks rewards
-does not have the kill cam and theater mode
-less total players in an online match

These relate to multiplayer of course, I haven't heard anything about the singleplayer being different.

Thanks Mop. Thankfully, none of that deters me. As long as there is a solid multiplayer mode that's relatively on par with Goldeneye (or even Reflex Edition. I skipped Black Ops so I can't really compare), then I will be satisfied.

I haven't played this game yet for any system, but I have read a lot of comments from people saying MW3 is basically just a glorified expansion pack for MW2. Since the Wii never got MW2 and if you've never played it I guess MW3 works out fine, but it seems like there isn't much different over the last game.

Hopefully this one will be the last in the MW series. There better not be a MW4 next year. If this is all COD is going to be then the COD franchise deserves to die. But if the MW series can be jettisoned and COD can move on to fresh and newer things then maybe it can save itself from the fate of Guitar Hero.
