COD Black Ops shooting down aircraft rant
« on: July 27, 2011, 02:59:08 PM »
I'd like to take a moment to rant about how very few people ever bother shooting down planes or helicopters in the game. It seems like nobody ever cares if there is a spy plane in the air or helicopter or whatever. It seems like most players use Ghost which makes them immune to the effects of the spy plane, and ghost pro protects against getting locked on by helicopters, so I guess for that reason they don't give a **** about the rest of the team, even though since they are immune they are the ones best able to bring them down.

I think using Ghost is a very N00bish and overused perk, which is why I seldom use it myself. The thing I don't think most people realize is that the point of Ghost is that it makes you invisible to spy planes, right? Well, if you shoot the spy planes down as the appear then the point of the perk is rendered moot. If you shoot the spy planes down then you have the same benefit as if you're using ghost, but you are also now free to use something else instead.

The last game I played I had an attack helicopter but I couldn't call it in because the airspace was full and I kept hoping the other team would wise up and shoot it down so I could call mine in, but they never did. So the game ended and I never got to call it in. Even though its simple to shoot down an attack helicopter since it just hovers in more or less the same spot they apparently much rather preferred to just keep getting killed like retarded lemmings by it. And that's basically why their team not only lost, but lost by a HUGE margin. All it would have took is one player with some common sense and a couple rockets and things could have been different for them.

And that stupidity just ruins the game for me... if the idiots are on my team they tend to drag me down and we lose because no matter how good I may be as an individual player, one single player cannot win team based objective games. On the other hand, if the idiots are the other team then it just becomes a pointless slaughter fest of shooting fish in the barrel, which isn't fun for me because there is no challenge. I don't want to be spawn raped and I don't want to spawn rape. I want it to be a fair fight where its a challenge, but not an impossible one. Unfortunately, when you play with random teams its a crap shoot and you never know what sort of players you're going to end up with until its too late.

But anyway, instead of using Ghost to hide like a coward from spy planes why not just shoot them down instead? If you're going to just hide in a corner the whole game why even play the game at all? If you're going to use Ghost at least use it to the benefit of the team and shoot down those helicopters so your team can win. Maybe you are invisible to them, but your team mates may not be.

That's my 2 cents.

That reminds me a bit of what I saw recently playing Crysis 2 multiplayer.  Everyone pretty much stays in Cloak at all times, and these maps are pretty huge.  So you can easily spend a good several minutes just trying to find people.

You have enough bullets to spray and pray?  I haven't played any of the Crysis games.  I think damage would knock you out of  cloak or do a momentary reveal.  That's traditional.

Yeah, getting hit while in Cloak does wipe out your energy and force you to de-cloak, so "spray and pray" is a viable strategy if you think someone's in an area.  The problem is that most of the maps are too open to pin someone into a corner for that.  You can use your visor to mark a target so it can be spotted while cloaked, but that requires both your target to be uncloaked and you to be close enough to see them visually.

That's why I've allocated the SR-71 blackbird as one of my three killstreaks. Its a shame, because I'd like to be able to have dogs or something else, but the need to do Ghost Busting trumps everything else. I've noticed that a lot of the time people back out as soon as a blackbird is called in, which is really funny if you think about it, but it can also ruin the game if the one backing out happens to be the host...

Every time I played with my coworkers I was the guy that shoots things down, and might I add that Ghost Pro is an excellent defense to shoot things down. I don't camp.
