Actually, it didn't look like the "www.nintendo.com" main page, but rather, the gamecube portion of www.nintendo.com.

I'll have to check that out.

As far as the entire issue goes.... yep... freaky.

Hope it's a hint at things to come.... What else do we have but hope?

Yes, the page loaded is the GCN portion of the Nintendo main site.

My sytems a little slow so as www.metalgear3.com loaded, I could see that it it finished quickly with a blank screen, then loaded http://www.gamecube.com/index.jsp which took just a second (again another blank screen), and finally loaded http://www.nintendo.com/systems/gcn/index.jsp

So I guess the question still is: Who registered the MetalGear3 page?

I don't know if anybody remembers this, but i'll throw it out there. I think it was 2 E3's ago, IGN had a article about a NOA representitive who was a little tipsy, and began boasting about how the GC was going to have the new MGS game.  Evidently, they were watching a sony presentation of, i think SOL and he began yelling'its coming to GC' over and over again.  Now after I read this, I heard nothing more about it.  Until now.  Maybe IGN has known all along about this?  They certainly have hinted at knowing something for the past year, at least.  We shall see...

Personally I think it's pretty dumb for Konami to be even showing MGS3 now.  Twin Snakes hasn't even been revealed yet and any announcement of MGS3 might hurt sales no matter what platform the game is on.  It will be particularly harmful if MGS3 is a PS2 exclusive.  It won't look too good if the Gamecube has a remake released at the same time as the next new game.

The fact that IGNCube is covering MGS3 is pretty strange since up till now everyone assumed the title was a PS2 exclusive.  Since IGNPS2 also has the story I figure it's either now multiplatform or IGNCube is speculating on rumours.  MGS3 has been rumoured for Cube for a while.  I guess we should just wait for E3.

"I think Konami should expect average sales of MGS3 if they release it on GCN compared to PS2. Obviously, people who loved MGS would have bought a PS2, like my friend did."

Good point.  The Resident Evil series is different because the original RE titles are Gamecube exclusive.  People only have to buy a Cube to play RE games (excluding spinoffs).  In this situation an original MGS title has already been released on the PS2 so the bulk of the fanbase already owns a PS2.  If they switched platforms it would probably hurt sales.  There is however also the factor of MGS fans who would be willing to buy a Cube solely for MGS3 if it were exclusive.

One thing probably none of you have thought about yet is, WHY would a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid appear on GCN. Doesnt this indicate perhaps that the whole series is coming to GCN, with a late port of MGS2, a version of MGS3 and the rumored exclusive MGS4?
This might be far fetched, but that remake deal is really fishy, why a remake, why? They might as well start a whole new MGS for GCN but strangely its a remake of the first one, similar to the Resident Evil deal, with remakes, ports and new exlusives.

Well, the Oid's right.

I, for one, CERTAINLY didn't think about that.
I definately would dream of something along those lines happening, but...
I highly doubt it.

What happened to the headline at CUBE.ign.com? I went back a short while ago, and it was nowhere to be found.

Did anyone bookmark it by chance? If so, does the link still work?

The article being gone could mean two things...

1) Konami threatened to flick IGN off the face of the earth if they didn't take it down or...
2) IGN is made up of a bunch of morons and they found out that the game isn't coming to the GC

They both have an equal possibility of being true

LMFAO!  I hear that man.

I remember a while back that MGS3 was promised a limited exclusivity thingy for Xbox.  It could be that the PS2 and GCN versions would come out at the same time 6 months later (ala Splinter Cell, but hopefully a more refined game.)

Maybe there's something hush hush that Konami isn't ready to reveal yet. Or it could be another IGN blunder

Doing some more checking, I have considered a 3rd possibility.

IGN's site sucks, and simply isn't displaying the news on the main page anymore. The link I supplied in the first post still works good.

I'm geussing IGN's under an NDA (of which I'm sure they have many) and someone at Konami considered their "hints" a bit too obvious and made them take it down. Just my thoughts.

IGN has really lost some of it's creditability, IGN hasn't been the same since the 64bit/32bit days.

I think money has gotten to their heads, I hear the dot coms are looking to rebound due to more advertising from big investors. So thing's will improve since the drought that started a few yrs ago.

i started reading hte thread, but i got too lengthy.....well i think thats msg3 will be ported over at best. i will be extremely suprised if we get it first, or even at the same time as ps2....and i dont think it will be exclusive.

Well, I wouldn't bank on MGS3 on the GCN if for no other reason then you wouldn't be too disappointed if it doesn't appear. Also, MGS3 is going to have a limited presence because Konami wants their Castlevania game to be their main deal. MGS3 isn't coming out until holiday 2004.
If Konami wants MGS3 to sell well then it's going to be on the PS2 first. I'm not dismissing simultaneous releases on either GCN or Xbox (or both) but the money is with the PS2. It's possible MS could toss Konami a wad of cash for first rights but I doubt they would go for it. The game would sell horribly in Japan so MS would have to throw Konami a ton of cash.
I agree with the festering 'roid but most likely on a smaller scale. MGS:TTS on GCN, then perhaps MGS2:S and maybe MGS3. This is Konami remember and if TTS doesn't sell really well they may reconsider.
One thing that intrigues me, though, and leads credence to more MGS love for the GCN is the fact that MGS:TTS is developed by SK which most likely means the game will remain exclusive no matter what happens, similar to Rare and Conker, unless Konami wants to pony up the cash.
Having a Nintendo 2nd party do this suggests that Nintendo and Konami are growing closer so maybe Konami will port over some of their other games like Castlevania (which will hopefully be good).

It better be, Contra on the PSX sucked big time. This could also go the way of RE. Seems a pattern is following, Trying to introduce the MGS series on GC and what better why to start that of than a remake of the original MGS. Although one still has to wonder what does the referrence of Twin Snakes in the title means. There's got to be something other than Solid and Liquid being in the game.

Yeah that is a cool theory and I'm glad we are getting an upgraded version of MGS....but if thats the case I rather that they start at the original Metal Gear. I can barely remember the game and an all new version of it would be like a new game. Come to think of it I have a better idea.....why don't they remake the 8 bit Metal Gear titles on GBA with connectivity to the GC MGS titles At the very least, since they are remaking MGS, they could remake Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for GC for GBA to connect to MGS:TS. I still don't like how they called Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Solid in the US....they could have at least called it Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel....sigh but thats another issue all together.

Yes it is But I figure there has to be some added plots that will be implemented. Although someone mentioned you could play as Liquid and see it through his eyes. But the problem with that is who will Liquid be up against? just Soild won't do, hmmm unless Liquid has his own personal bit in the game that takes place somewhere else / or how'll he took over Moses island.

It would be way cool to play as Ninja

I just got through watching my first taste of the E3 spectacle with the MGS3 trailer, and I have to say that I am more excited about this game than ever.  I am actually more hyped about MGS3 now than MGS The Twin Snakes.  Konami just restored my faith in Metal Gear.

EDIT:  A small worry...  I just remembered how freaking cool the MGS2 trailer was...

i doubt it, because nintendo would have to just unload dollars on them to get it probably at the same time as the ps2 version.  ps2 just has a much larger install base, i think up to 4x more than xbox and gc, so it would sell a lot more on the ps2.

Hey guys think about this. I think that MGS:3 will come out on Gamecube because of that IGNcube post, but then i thought that it would be stupid to skip MGS:2. so what if twin snakes refers to two games. just a suggestion.

Personally, I just want to sweep the MGS2 under the rug and try to forget about it.  It tarnishes the Metal Gear name.  (Much like Snake's Revenge)
